Title: Help needed after rejet
Post by: Savor on April 09, 2006, 06:25:06 PM
Hi guys. I am having trouble ever since I rejetted. At the moment, it doesn't want to stay at idle and if it does, it surges and dies after 30 seconds if I'm lucky. The specs after rejetting trial #1 were:

K&N pod filter
Yoshimura pipe (I think it's the full exhaust)
150/40 jets
Two #4 washers on the needle (1mm)

When I had these specs there was no power under 4k powerband and I smelled fuel all over. Problems got worse when the bike was warmed up. I had to rev and slip the clutch at around 5k-6k to get moving from stops. I tried messing with the mixture screw but it did not improve its conditions. I checked the plugs and it was fouled black.

Seeing as how I was running rich, I tried it with only one washer on the needle. Now I am at my present problem. It won't stay at idle and when I get the chance to give it gas it either:
1. With a bit of lag revs and hangs at 3k, which I presume is coming from running lean.
or
2. dies.

I assume that the floats are set correctly because I adjusted them around to 1.4cm -1.5cm. I haven't checked the valves yet but could valves that are off cause these problems?

I hope I provided enough information to troubleshoot this. Anyone know what it could be?

did you do the float height check at http://gstwin.com/float_height_check.htm ?  That's the only way to accurately gauge the float height.  Clymer is full of the steamy brown stuff.

so the sole culprit is probably the float height?

If you adjusted it according to Clymers measurement method, then I absolutely think it's float height.  I adjusted it that way and my left cylinder quit running.  It was off by over 1/2 inch.

Ok. I did the float height check the other way. The left side of the carb was good but it seems that the right side doesn't want to bleed any fuel. I keep turning and no fuel comes through the hose. At the end, fuel is everywhere because the bleed screw is too loose.

Also, when it idles there is a loud clicking on the right side of the carb. I can feel this clicking by putting my hand over the carb. Any ideas?

Hmm, duh. Fixed the clogged bleeder.

Any idea what the clicking is?

I don't know what could be clicking in the carb.  Have you checked your valve clearances?

clicking from the carb could be the engine "sucking" for fuel.
and the carb not able to provide. something clogged maybe.

but I am only speculating and have no real clue if I am right.

Omg. The culprit was sparkplugs. I guess it was fouled enough so that not enough spark was being produced.

Thanks to this board and Egaeus I got most of the variables eliminated.

And hopefully once it's running right you'll have a better bike! :)

I hope you didn't mix those washers up.  I mean, what would happen if you were 4 mm different!

Haha. I made sure those washers were right. It was really helpful that you labeled them. I feel that the lower power is indeed missing but I'm so glad that my bike is actually running now.

Oh, also, thank you 3imo. The information was helpful. I was really concerened about that noise. You were indeed correct.
