Ok, I bought I set of forks from a member on GStwin. They are used and have performance springs and gold emulators installed. I'm finally getting around to installing them on my GS but figured that I'd throw a new set of fork seals in, and some new fork oil.
Now my question is what weight fork oil should I use? In the racers corner section it recommends 15w for race like conditions. Now I'm going to be using these on the street so I'm wondering if I should go with 10w. Does anyone have this set up? What weight fork oil are you using? I did a quick search but found way too much crap to find anything useful.
dam I'm impatient. anyone?
i am 240lbs 2006 gs with race tec springs and emulators and 20w oil ,it feels good at all speeds no front end shake at up to 90mph.stopping distance is great and the bike feels safe,i had the work done at a race shop and was 2 hours labor.the guy who did the work also races supermoto and knows alot about suspensions, now that i have replyed should be more posts to disagree and give you some more options :thumb:
Well if your like 240lbs, and used 20w, maybe I should go with 15w considering that I'm about 180lbs. at first I was thinking that I was going to go with like 10w, but 15w seems like a good compromise. Emulators are also tunable right? Racers corner says that the race setting is 4 turns out so I'm guessing that there is some adjustability. Thanks a lot!
If anyone has any other thoughts or experience, please share.
Are the emulators you have the adjustable shim stack type? Those require complete fork teardown to replace shims (and again if you need to 're-tune').
You already know about www.peterverdonedesigns.com/introduction.htm
I have a machined metal cyclinder fork spacer in my front forks about a inch and a 1/2 long w/ 20 weight oil. i weight 155 lb and 20 weight is fine by me I never gotten any front end wobble people talk even all the way up @ 115 indicated.

But how stiff is it? Is it so stiff that its uncomfortable to ride in the pot whole filled city?

It isnt super stiff, i mean the springs are still stock. I ride to crappy downtown Mobile, AL everyday and if anything since its stiffer it doesnt bottom out as easily so that makes it MORE comfortable. I doubt you would even notice the diff. between 15 and 20 weight, I just went w/ 20 cuz the shop guy reccomended it.

Alright, well so far I think I'm going to go with the 15w.
It was the recommendation on the main site but I thought that was a little high. Now hearing that others have used 20w, I think I'll go for the 15. Thanks.
