This morning coming home from work she hit a dog at about 40mph. It was standing in the road and at the last minute ran right in front of her. They took her to the hospital but she's ok. Nothing broken, a little rash on the elbow and a bunch of bruises. Her windhield is smashed but she says the bike doesnt look too bad. Luckily she has full coverage. The front wheel may be a big bent not too sure of the damage yet. I'm sure when shes feeling better she'll be on asap and let you all know. She sure scared me...ride safe everyone...
Her helmet took a good blow:

oh and from AJ herself "Always wear your helmet damnit!"
and they gave her codone just a warning
DAMMIT, AJ, that isn't funny! I'm so glad you were wearing your gear...
Pastrami, please keep us posted on this; AJ is going to need to rest after getting her bell rung like that. That helmet did what it was designed to do, and everything else can be fixed...
Please post here soon as you feel up to it AJ, so we'll know you're at least semi-functional. Hope they give you some pain-killers to help you rest, so you'll recover quickly...
Glad you're alive. Heal up well!
Glad you're alright, for the most part. Get well soon.
Glad to hear you're OK! Get better soon! Lots of roads out there to ride!!
Glad you are alright, here's to a speedy recovery
you might not wanna hear it from me, but I am glad your ok. be sure to get a hand full of drugs :thumb:

Maybe someone should keep that dog in the house.
Get well quick AJ, I might have more petcock questions. :)

Glad to hear she's ok. Good luck on the recovery!
Dayim.....glad you're ok, aj!!! Good job on the gear, and heal up quickly!!!!! :o
glad you are ok AJ. Get well soon.
Good to hear you are o.k! Get well!
Bummer. I hope she recovers quickly.
BTW- Wasn't really a highside. More like running into a self-propelled obsticale...
Oh man that is scary ... them damn dogs always keep running in front of me too ... and guess what ... its not the dog's fault ... its the damn moron who owns it ...
Get better soon Aj.
Cool.

Right on. I love dogs - hate stupid owners.
Glad to hear your okay AJ - rest up and get better soon!
:thumb:
Ahh! That sucks so much! I'm glad she was wearing her gear (she always does) and that she's alright. Send her my best wishes for a speedy recovery. I'm glad her injuries wern't very serious, too. There's nothing worse than staying in the hospital. Even with cute nurses it still isn't much fun.
Is she still in the hospital, or did they release her?
WOW that helmet pic is scary. Good job on the gear. Heal up fast and well.
AJ, I hope you get better soon
last crash i had....sucked
could have been worse...could have been a COW :o
Get better soon AJ, i love it when you and Old man Wilson go at it. :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:
Get better, crazy. And replace that helmet. O0
Geeze... You don't have to PROVE that we should all wear our gear!
OK... No more crashing from anyone... We've had enough this year.
Pastrana/AJ:
I have an extra front wheel I'll sell you. It has a good tire on, BT40 I think, with tons of tread and the wheel is perfect. Gunmetal color.
PM me if you're interested.
That sucks!!!! Heal soon!
I don't see the pic?
:o Holy CRAP! Glad you are ok, AJ. Heal up quick! :kiss3:
I hope she gets better soon. that sucks ass. get a lawyer to have the dog owner take responsibility for that damn dog. hope it didnt survive....
Thanks kids!!!! :kiss3: :kiss3: I am out of the hospital they released me pretty much right away after the X-rays were cleared. I have bruises all over the right leg knee and below to the calf and that area is pretty swollen. My right elbow is also pretty bruised and I am really sore all over. In a few minutes I will go out and take some better non-cell pics when the drugs wear off a little bit more.
Thank you all again!!!!!
And it is very possible that the dog was a stray, the neighborhood I was driving thru at that moment was slightly sketchy!!!
Oh and ALWAYS WEAR YOUR HELMET!!!!! :thumb:
Sorry to hear it... it seems to suck much worse when an object out of your control causes a wreck... glad you're OK :thumb:
Those damn dogs will do that. You think they are going to wait for you to pass, and zoom! Right under your tire. I killed a neighbor's dog like that in my truck.
Glad that you're more or less intact. Kudos on wearing the gear. Bruises heal better than rash.
:o
Glad to see your up and about. Heal up and mount that horse again. :thumb:
Ok here are some pics.....

Dang Dave whatchya do to that dog to make it run all the way to Indy to get away from you???
Glad you're OK Aj. I hope you heal quickly to get back on the saddle.
Now that I can see due to better resolution on the computer at home, the forks don't look bent.

hey aj if you can, only if... can you take a pic of the forks from the side? preferrably so we can see them from one end to the other. although i agree with the others that they dont look bent, a sidde shot would help. btw heal up. you know wilson wants to argue with you again lols :kiss3:
She's awful sore today, but that was expected. I think the pain meds are messin with her stomach a lil but she was up a little while ago. If she's feeling up to it later when she wakes up and its sunny out I'm sure she'll take some more pictures.
AJ, heal up buddy. can you still type?

Good that is what I like to hear..... maybe the damage wont exceed the deductible!!!!
Thanks Scratch!!!
Suspension is supposed to absorb things like bumps...like dogs! Hope for the best!
ive been through that and it hurts , sorry for your pain and hope your not down long. ive found (and please dont hate me for this) if you dont think you cant avoid the animal resign your self quickly to cuting it in half using them like a ramp (wont actualy cut it in half, i promise) ive hit 3 dogs 2 racoons and 1 very large Oppossum of the dogs 1 was a lab about 35lbs (got me) 1 70lb rottie and 1 65lb shepard mix. the dogs where in residential area's and came out from behind cars and bushes. the Critters were on 2lane highways at about 70mph (these were mere speed bumps and didnt upset the bike as much as i expected) Just as i connected with the 2 larger dogs i pulled back on the bars and opened the throttle and it was like going up on a curb kinda hard but again the bike stayed upright and landed controlably.
now this is talking over 18 years or so of riding and many bikes over all. also, down here in florida there is a leash law. this means the animals must be controled via a tether line, leash, fence or in the house at all times (does not include working dogs under Voice control) the one i hit and wrecked tryed to sue me for the 8k vet bill. the judge told him he might want to eat the bill and be thankful the animal was alive. that if he pushed, the judge was going to ask me if i wished to counter sue for the loss of the bike,ER visit, loss of work and when all said and done fine him for Animal at large. even if he didnt, i could still countersue and win (i didnt want to, i felt bad for the dog really, stupid owner) it got dismissed.
as to your bike, yeah, reset the forks in the trees and top clamp, might even want to loosen the fork brace bolts and reset them too
If I would have had the time I would have attempted this but.... it was more like the dog ran into me. It was standing in the road eating some roadkill. The closer I got to it it still didnt move. I moved over in my lane as far as I could to get away from it and at the last second it basically ran into my front tire.
Away for a week and the motorcycling world goes to hell in a hand cart -- AJ and a brain damaged dog, and Larry Grodsky and the deer that took his life (http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/06101/681096-122.stm).
At least you'll ride another day. You're right -- you never know when you need to use your gear. It always pays to wear it. I may just follow through with a Roadcrafter 1-piece -- I'm usually protected from the waist up on rides close to home, but better covered on longer rides.
Heal fast AJ. Hope the bike is better soon too. :)
Not to threadjack, but I knew Larry. I live in pgh and when I was in undergrad he and the shop owner where I worked became friends. I used to talk to him all the time. I remember back in 93 or so he had this big ole' Honda Transalp that he rode everywhere. He was a cool guy, I'm sad he's gone.
Jake
Another threadjack...
I met Lawrence Grodsky a few times at different motorcycle venues over the last fifteen years, and he really did set the standard for motorcycle safety instruction. His monthly column in Rider was always worth reading; he made me think about my skill training more than any other person ever has.
The obituary is wrong; I clearly remember reading his "Stayin' Safe" article about teaching Mike Tyson how to stop wrecking his Harleys... Tyson was in the habit of riding without a license at that time, and without any real training... I understand that others might remember it differently, but the fact is, Mike Tyson might be alive today because of the time he spent with Larry Grodsky... I always considered it a validation of his methods, that Tyson' handlers chose Grodsky to be Iron Mike's personal riding trainer. They could have hired some well-known racer or Harley-riding publicity hound, but they chose the guy many long-term riders considered the best in his field, which was teaching people how to stay alive long enough to become an OLD motorcyclist. My condolences to the family...
ok I am gonna jack my thread back for a sec........ took the bike to the shop today and will call the insurance lady Monday so we are in that weird in between phase that I hate and the weather has just been beautiful here  . My dad was sooo funny today cause he kepy geyying mad at all of the cyclists today who werent wearing helmets... I even got him to call them squids!!!!
Anyway back to the threadjack....
Glad to hear you're ok... that rash on the helmet is scary.
There's a dog lives across the street from me who likes to chase me down the street any time he's out. :o
Hope you get your bike all fixed up before the weather gets really nice :thumb:
Time for another thread-jack...
One more fool leads the way to the cemetary, and another organ-donor wannabe shows us how NOT to be one...
Pennsylvania rider dies in crash (http://www.tmcnet.com/usubmit/-lehigh-township-man-dies-after-motorcycle-crash-he-/2006/04/13/1569585.htm)
Indiana drunk near death (http://www.motorcyclesnews.it/pages_1961159.html)
AJ, I'm truly thankful you always wear your gear; I'm so tired of reading stories about these ass-hats... Looks like its going to be a bumper crop of donated organs again this spring; at least some families will have reasons to celebrate... those donated organs are bound to help someone...
Ok pics of the bruises.....

Hye i bought my bike in Cary, NC
Cool, maybe ill see you around sometime. O0
Ok update on the bike.... I just got off the phone with the appraiser and they wanted to toal out the bike and I was like woah why??? Well he said that tank was damaged and they dont make that tank anymore so..... so I told them that I wanted the bike runnible not pretty so he laughed and said ok that he would talk to the guy at the shop and see what it would take to get it runnible but not pretty. So we are making progress slowly but surely.
I've seen several tanks for the GS on eBay... not to mention a whole ton of other parts that are on there at any given time... you should keep an eye on that if you're not already that way you can have runnible AND pretty :thumb:
