if you recall, there was a thread in TD that had some images made up of letters and punctuation. I posted these two images of a project I designed, using text to create a landscape image on glass. it was installed yesterday and looks amazing. Here are some snapshots I took, better ones coming soon.
original design:
24" x 24" sample:

actual installation:

It looks amazing in person.
you know matrix :o
cool shiat :thumb:
Wow, that's awesome.
What do you do and where do you do it that you can design and put up shaZam! like that at work?
Very cool idea!
is it all vinyl sticker type material?
If you haven't already seen it, the rasterbator is a neat tool to play around with at home. http://homokaasu.org/rasterbator/

This is not MY office. They, United States Artists, hired me to design their new offices. I'm an architect and that was part of my design for their office interior. It was a bare shell when we started a couple months ago. everything is new. Check out www.pma-architect.com under commercial (United States Artists) to see some other pictures I just uploaded to site.

similar idea. I got the idea from this site http://www.19.5degs.com/element/222.php which converts image to ascii text. Although I created a custom font using pairs of letters (state abbreviations), each pair as an image. Then I ran it through a similar program to above that converts one image to a pixilated version using the 50 "images" of state abbreviations I made instead of the ascii text. The original image is of the park you see from the offices, visible in the background. Then done in gold vinyl. it took 2 weeks solid to weed out all the inner parts of the loop letters (A, O, P, etc). one day to install on glass.
thanks.
you get to design stuff like that for a living? thats awsome.
did you hide any hidden messages in it?
Nice. Looking at your website, I like your style. You've got a thing for open spaces and wood. I'd love to work in one of your (designed) offices, instead on a completely bland cubefarm.
Wow. Interesting. I am a big fan of glass art, especially architectural glass art. I can't tell if I like it or not from the photos...but it is definately different. I guess I would like to see it as etched, instead of vinyl. Props for creativity. :thumb:
etched would have been translucent against clear glass and not as warm as the rest of the space. Better photos to follow. the original idea was to have that pattern lasercut out of brass and sandwiched in laminated glass...but budget and the perception of excessive spending made us rethink it.

no but we joked about it constantly. while installing it they did come across some interesting combinations of letters, like wine and coors...actually as WI NE or CO OR SE....

my approach to the work is with a modern way of thinking about space, combined with a japanese sensibility for materials, keeping the modern warm.
Thanks.
I think it looks so neat becuase it looks like you've adjusted the text spacing and such. They're not only letters, they're funky shapes too!
Ooh, neat! :thumb:
So what did you charge to design that? I bet it netted you thousands.
$5,000.

i need a loan....
ps. my gf is japanese too
hahaha...my wife is a JAP, but she's chinese.
btw-when you take into account the work that was involved in doing the artwork for the vendor to cut the vinyl that $5k works out to about $1.50/hr...pretax.
aaronstj said you have a thing for wood.
 (That smiley is for you, pantablo)

Me too. I'm very happy that I can still get it up at my advanced age.
Looks badass... I'm sure it a lot cooler to actually see it in person.
And... You're wife is a Chinese Jewish American Princess? Wow... What a combo!
I lucked out with one that's only emotionally high maintenance. :icon_razz: She keeps me from spending money. :icon_confused:

yeah, the chinese and the jews have lots in common actually, when it comes to money. Funny story though-when we were just starting to date she would make comments about being a jap, then talk about being chinese and I would be confused, thinking she was jap-anese....took me a second...I'm slow that way.
Anybody else think that pantablo just uses this board to pimp his architectural business?
P.S. Pablo, will you please design my house? :icon_mrgreen:
