Title: THANKS EVERYBODY FOR ALL YOUR HELP!!!!
Post by: cyclin-scott on April 14, 2006, 06:44:25 PM
I just wanted to post a BIG thanks you to everyone for helping getting started out on my first bike.

Just as an update from last week (when I got my bike and first joined this forum) ...

- I got the horn working .... just needed a little TLC ... and A LOT of silicone spray!
- Got my license and am running up and down the road like crazy! (not literally...) I think my Jeep is getting jealous....
- I'll be taking the MSF course this WED.
- And lastly, but what I'm most proud of ... I FOUND NEUTRAL!!!! YEA!!!! Partly b/c of the help on this forum, but also b/c after close inspection, I found my shifter arm was lose. I don't even want to think about "what if" it wiggled lose on a ride and feel off ... that would be BAD!!! But i got it tight and it works like new ... imagine that.

Thanks again everyone ... Scott :thumb:

Have fun at the MSF. Remember to TURN YOUR HEAD through the turns. I heard it exactly 1,903,883 times at mine.

Yes, looking where you want to go is instrumental in not running off of the road or hitting obstacles.  My one and only wreck was due to me looking at the side of the road.  I'm getting much better at that now....

It sounds so obvious, but the cautious part of my mind wants to look down in front of the tire, slightly ahead of it, and so on. Look through. It's funny how it doesn't hit home until you're taking a corner wide and coming close to the curb, you look at the curb, and...you know how that ends.  :dunno_white:

Thanks guys for all the "heads up" advice!!! I used to race mountain bikes in college and since I've started riding I've found that both sports have a lot in common .... except on e just goes A LOT faster than the other!

I've been riding a lot since I first got my bike, just trying to get the feel of everything, but I think that I'm going to take it easy until my MSF course. I'm just afraid that I might have tught myself some bad habits ... and while we all have them, I'd rather not have them when I ride.

Thanks again everybody ....  :thumb:

Good judgement taking the MSF course. But NEVER forget to wear your gear and helmet. I used to be kind of lazy about wearing my gear, especially if it was hot , or it was a short trip,etc... It got a little cool that day so at the last minute I put all my gear on. If it didn't save my life it at least saved me from a buttload of skin grafting. Guy turned left infront of me on a two lane highway.
