allmtrslut-
I believe it is in Celica's possession right now, waiting to ship to you.
Woah, what? This is the list, as far as I'm aware:
My_Celica_Is_Jealous Anaheim, CA
AgentNitz La Crescenta, CA
Mandres ?, TX
2005-GS500-PDX Portland, OR
allmtrslut Los Angeles, CA
mk1incali San Diego/Beverly Hills, CA
So it's skipping AgentNitz, Mandres, and myself and going to allmtrslut? I must have missed something...
Did you pm allmtrslut and My_Celica_Is_Jealous?

No, but I've gathered that they're doing it together. Is that why you ask?
Oh, and the thread says it was started by me. I rule!
no i sent it to agentnitz....it arrived already (according to usps delivery confirm)...agentnitz and allmtrslut are trying to do it together...they are asking mk1 to join them
cool, I guess that makes me next. Perfect timing. Please PM me when you're rdy to send and I'll give you my address.

Mandres, my man, how about we have them ship it to me and you can come up and do them at the same time as me at my house? Beer and smokes will be provided.
Wink.
dont you have to do the valves when they're cold? thats what they do at the shops-you leave the bike the night before.

I don't think that's a worry. Mandres' bike isn't exactly going anywhere yet. :)
Hehe, that's true. It would be difficult to make it to Oregon since the head and cylinders are sitting on top of my refrigerator right now. On the plus side the new valves, rings, gaskets and valve guide are supposed to be delivered today. I just need to get the guide installed at the shop and the clearances set properly and she'll be good to go. It's been a long, frustrating journey.
-M
Mike, you're an inspiration to all of us. No matter how bad it gets, you keep going. Any year now, you'll have a great bike. :)
I just tell myself that no matter how much maintenance my bike needs to make up for the neglect it suffered, at least I didn't get yours.

agentnitz, allmtrslut and mk1...are you open to someone else joining the valve adjusting party? i'm in West LA, and would love to meet some fellow gstwinners and do some wrenching. Let me know when you're getting together, and if it'd be cool for me to join. Thanks!
hey i realized my prob wasnt valves, so iam not joining them. i dont they would mind they are cool guys!
I got the kit last wednesday, and I've been kinda busy as of late (sorry!) but I hope to have em done this week. I'mma call Mk1 and see what he has to say. And after that, it'll be on the way to Mandres!

Mandres said he's too tired to do them, so skip him and forward it on to me. Thank yoooooooou!
Actually I was talking about these guys who were going to do it together. How they accomplish that with completely cold bikes is beyond me unless they all come to one's house the night before...

i'm bringing a bunch of magic gnomes to blow on the engines.
hrmmm i was at my local Suzuki shop (Marina Suzuki) while i was there i bought a new front tire along with an oil/filter change + small stuffs... so he whips out a gs500 manual and explains to me that im in need of a valve adjustment according to my miles (7400ish); I downloaded Kerry's Grammy DIY movie and was wondering.. how does the kit move around? :thumb:
Pablo makes a great point, I had forgotten about the fact that when I did my own bikes' + Daniely's, we waited all day to do them. With my current school schedule, and lack of time in general to do extra-curricular stuff, I think I'll have to pass on this for right now. I know my bike needs to be checked, but 3/4 were within spec after 10K miles, and I've put on 9 since then, so I'm not too terribly suspicious of them moving, since I run good oil and keep it clean.
I'd feel bad holding the kit up when there are people waiting who have been in line for much longer than myself, so if you need help doing yours, I'd be happy to ride up and lend a hand, but to do my own bike I'll need more time.
Glad to see it's still moving around.
Mk1inCali, sorry to hear you're out. AgentNitz, are you still going to try and do your valves? If you're still planning on it, and there is a way to work it out so i could do it with you, that'd be awesome. But, i also don't want to be one to hold things up. Let me know...
12th, yeah, I wish I could get them done right now, but it's not right for me to hold up the kit when people have been waiting for it.
If you can't work something out with Nitz, I'll be in Beverly Hills-area doing my valves at some point in the near future when the kit swings back to Cali, so I'd be happy to work something out with you at that time.
Hi guys:
I know I'm technically not on the 'coast', but is there any way to add me to the list? I'm in Denver, CO. When I'm done with the kit, I can FedEx it (that's right, FedEx :) the kit to whoever's next in line. BTW: What range of shims are in that thing right now? I'm in need of something in the 2.40-2.45 range.
Regards,
Randy

Not yet, I think the Cali dudes have it, then Mandres in TX, and I'm after that. I'd be down to do them together if you want. Keep an eye on this thread to get a better idea of when I should get them, and we can plan from there.

Ok, FYI I might be up there this weekend with the GS, I was planning on a ride to N. Bonnivile(spelling?) down 14, it's about an 1-2hour drive if I remember right.

Any updates Agent? It's been about a month since the kit came to you. When can I expect it?

Dude, have you PM'd any of these guys? If there is a good reason for this then excuse me, but it's getting a little ridiculous.
The next time the kit surfaces, I'd be curious to know what it (still) contains.
Shims come and go, things get broken or lost - that's just life. I probably won't see the kit again for a LOONG time (I've got a duplicate set of tools ;) ), but if anything is missing I'd like to help get it back "up to snuff".
For reference, here is what the kit contained when it last left my possession:

I don't think I got a PM either, but I might have disregarded it since, as Dave said, I have nothing to do with the valve adjustment kit. I've got my own little makeshift kit here at home.
Oops yea, I meant to say AgentNitz. You're off the hook Alpha :thumb:
Can we get some mods and admins involved in this? Maybe just contacting them and trying to figure things out? We could contact them, but it may make more of a difference if you guys do it.

Hey, if the LA guys do a get together, see if they wouldn't mind if I join :D
Depending on when it happens, I could roll up to LA area and be the last one to get it done that day.
Parents are in Bev. Hills near La Cienega/Wilshire, and I could stop by the meeting to grab the kit after you guys were done so I could do the job the same day, or I could just wait my turn as well.
I've done the valve check twice before, so if there are newbies that are un-initiated/haven't yet memorized Kerry's video, I could help them out.
Not in a rush to do it, I'm already past due, and I'm not putting that many miles on anymore, so it's not a big deal for me to wait.

Hey queso...if mk1incali doesn't want to host a GS valve-adjusting party at his parents pad in beverly hills ;) ;) you can meet up with me when i get it and see what a lovely "garage" our apartment has. i'd rather do this with someone anyway. But we both know mk1incali should invite us first. :icon_lol: :thumb:
If you read back a page or two and note what Pablo says about complete cool-downs before checking clearances, you'll understand why a party at my parent's place would do no good for you guys, since my parents wouldn't be too receptive to the idea of 2 unknown bikes in their garage over night as it is shared with their landlord and he's pretty anal about who has access to the garage (rightfully so, I believe).
I'd be more than happy to ride up from SD and help you guys after veeref is done with the kit and it is back in SoCal...I just got a new digital camera, so I need some good long rides to give me some photo ops, and I'm always glad to meet more guys that don't fall for the whole bigger is necessarily better trap like most Americans do.

Sounds cool! A wrenching project isn't quite as fun alone, that's for sure. All ya need is a spot, garage or not, I do all my wrenching in a car port, using the apartment's washer and drier as my tool bench :icon_mrgreen:
mk1, Shouldn't a good cool down only take a couple hours (maybe with fans on the engine or something)?
Yeah, it seems like if we let your bike sit for a few hours, and then did mine...yours would be cool enough by then. And it also seems that if we pulled your tank, the engine would cool a lot faster too. Maybe i'm missing something. :dunno_white: Hopefully someone who knows such things will chime in...
I usually only wait an hour or two tops to start working on my bike after a ride. Though that never involved work directly on the engine, that seemed to let the carbs and stuff around cool off plenty enough. Doing one bike at a time should leave penty of cooling time, I would think.
I don't have either manual here at work, but my understanding is that the engine needs to be stone cold when you check the valve clearances.
My guess is that heat in the engine expands several of the components in the "valve train". The sum total of the deformations could easily result in "bad" readings.
[EDIT] Translation: Let the bike sit overnight if at all possible.

Just a thought..
If you SoCal guys want to combine working on your valves, you can send it to me AFTER you're done with it. My valve clearance job can definitely wait, so that way you're not waiting for it to get to Colorado and back. Just change the order if you guys are cool with that. I still have about another 1000 miles or so to put on (about a month of riding), before I"m officially due.
Randy
Hmm... Anyone have a truck that they could haul their bike to the garage of one who has no truck? My bike is my only transportation... Just a thought. Otherwise I guess I'll just have to wait, then.
Hey Queso...where do you live? i don't have a truck...but there are ways we can work this out.
And veeref...you are a kind man.
Yeah guys, no dice on the couple hour cool-down. Queso-for almost everything else, an hour or two is just fine for a wait period. It takes a long time to get parts that deep into the engine cooled off to ambient temp.
Thanks much Veeref!
One thought, if you guys can't get both of your bikes in one location and have them both cooled off, I could do mine at my parent's place early morning after letting it sit all night to cool, then ride over to one house with the kit in tow, do the bike there (whichever of you guys wanted to go 2nd), then both of us (or just me, if the 2nd guy wasn't into it) could roll over to the 3rd guy's house and do his bike.
I'd be cool with starting at one of your houses if you are pretty close to UCLA or Wilshire/Rodeo/La Cienega area as I could steal my parent's car and mob over there to help.
Neither of you have done this service, correct?
To veeref- Much thanks for the offer, hopefully we can get this ironed out and have a solid plan so we can at least get everybody's valves measured, if not back into spec, then into your hands.
Tuesday/Wednesdays are my only days off now, but I don't have to work until 11 on Thursday so an early morning thrash on my bike would be OK if we got your 2 bikes done Wednesday night, and I can possibly swap days to get a real weekend day off (that'd take some planning though).
What works for you two?
Nope, never done a valve job before. I watched Kerry's video a couple times, though ;)
I'm in La Mirada, just off Beach Blvd. That idea sounds cool, do yours, go to the next house, the two go to the next...
And thanks, veeref!!
Mk1inCali - that sounds like a good plan. Is there any way you could manage a Saturday? That is the only morning i could work on it. Like Queso, my bike is my only means of transportation during the week. i live off Sawtelle and Palms, so i'm pretty close to your parents house. If it was a Saturday morning, i could borrow my wife's cage, drive over to your place help/observe/learn while you do your valve job, we could ride over to my place, do mine...and then head on down to the OC to do Queso's. And then we could terrorize the streets of La Mirada. :icon_twisted:
At the job I have right now, I get off of work at ~3:30, so I could come up that way after work and get your two bikes done, and then head back down to San Diego and get my bike done that next Tuesday (I've slowly been accumulating tools of my own), and ship the kit off.
If I get another job here soon like I've been looking (fruitlessly thus far) for (exactly for the lack of weekend days off), that'll be wide open again and I have no idea what my schedule would look like.
Hey, anyway I can get on the list? I'm in Houston, TX.

This could work out yet, I still have Monday/Tuesday off, and I get off early on Saturdays, so I can get my bike done during the week, then ride up after work on Saturday and we can finish your two bikes.
Does that still work for either of you LA-based 'Twinners?
Saturday? That should work fine for me.
Cool, then I can definitely make that work, I'll let you know once I've got the kit.
Hey everyone, sorry for disappearing again. I am planning on doing them this Thursday, once I have my 3 research papers and a presentation done. I swear, I'm trying to get to it, and I am doing my best.

A Saturday should work for me...as long as i have a decent heads-up on which Saturday it'll be. Sounds good!
Well, I'm sure some of you saw my post about my problems with the valves, so you're aware that I am officially now done. mk1incali, PM me your addy and I will get the kit out ASAP. Good luck, and my real only advice is to have the video by you as you do the job (if you can). I had my laptop in the garage so I was able to watch it as I worked. It was an awesome tool. And like Alpha told me, take your time and be patient. Getting the valve cover out is a Buddha Loves You, but I removed the zip tie that holds all the cables to the frame and moved them to the left as far as possible, and I was able to slide the cover in and out. With a little effort, but still.

Got the kit tonight when I came home from work, so I'll probably attempt to get the check done tomorrow night, unless I've got a date, which might be very possible.
I know I'll have it done by next Saturday, or at least know which shims I will need, and I've got one of the depresser tools, so I can do a shim install without the kit.
Guys, PM me your numbers/addresses and we'll plan on next Saturday for the valve adjustment party.
Hey Queso...does next Saturday work for you?
Most likely. See, I go into work at 7:30 pm Friday, and get home about 6:30 am saturday. I might have to go in around 4 or 5 on Saturday, though. I'm sure we can arrange something, though.
Guys, I got roped into working the closing shift on Saturday this week. Going to have to make it next Saturday (the 19th).
I'm going to take myself off the list. I ended up buying everything except for the valve shims.

Could be a problem...the 19th is the Rich Memorial ACH ride. And if i remember correctly, Queso has to work...and my parents are coming in town. So, if that weren't the case, i would guess we'd both be group-riding...not valve-adjusting. :dunno_white:
If I can get that saturday off, I'm going on the group ride. I just bought a cage, though, so the bike can be ready for a valve adjustment whenever.
It looks like i might just have to wait for my position on the list (after veeref). My parents will be in town from Wednesday to Monday of this coming week...and then i have a friend from college coming in town the same days of the following week. So...i won't be able to get to it for the next 2 weeks.

Thanks
I'm done with it, none of my valves had moved at all in the ~11K miles since last checked them.
Took me ~2 hrs from start to finish, but I have pod filters and no frame-mounted petcock, and had done it before, alone both times.
Alright, to kind of move things along, ;) are you going to pick the kit up, Banner? I'm still decent on mileage (around 7200), so I've got a few weeks until I'm due.
Regards,
Randy
Banner picked it up from me a couple/few days ago. I believe he's done the job before, so he might be done with it now.
I'm sure he will check in here.
Okay..the kit is ready to be shipped out to the whoevers next. If your in LA i can drop by (probably depending on my schedule) and drop it off.
Let me know,
Ali

If its one of the LA guys i'm heading up there soon and i can drop it off. Otherwise i'll just ship it off.
Let me know.

Did you L.A. guys still want to tackle it together? If not, I'll take the kit next.ards,
Randy
I'd still like to try, but I don't have a very flexible schedule. Most likely I'd only be able to on a Sunday. I'm in Long Beach, is that too far for the other LA peoples??
I can drop it off if you want...let me know.
It would be more logical if the LA people did it first then sent it on its way.
But whichever way...no problem

That's what I was thinking. I''ve still got another 6-700 miles or so till I'm due.
Regards,
Randy
This is the last weekend where I'll be working both days, so if you LA guys haven't gotten the kit by the 2nd weekend in Sept (Is it really that far along in the year now??), I could grab it back from banner and come up there and help one of you guys do the check as I'll have business to take care of again in Beverly anyway.
Keep us updated guys with what happens.
yeah guys...i'm leaving this friday on a trip...i'll be back on monday..
so let me know as soon as possible.
Well, I'm not next, but I'm ready whenever.
Ohhh...sorry. i haven't really been able to check the board very often recently.
Queso, i'd definitely be still down to get together. Long Beach isn't too far, as i'm in West LA real close to Culver City...but my next two Sundays (after this weekend) are shot. Me and the Mrs. have Lamaze classes. i guess it would've helped if i would've seen these messages earlier.
Queso, i PM'd you my number. If you think that there is a way we could do this another time other than a Sunday, lemme know.
hey i'm still waiting. I should be going to the la area on friday...so let me know who to give it to and when.
Thanks
Banner - Queso and i are trying to coordinate our schedules. i think i'm "next" on the list. If you wanna try and drop it off to me, that'd be great. Where in the LA area are you going to be? i live right by where the 10 and the 405 cross...
perfect....
i'll be passing through there.
give me your address in a pm and i'll come friday?
thanks
banner,
what's the status of the valve kit? never heard from you this weekend...and Queso and i were supposed to do it on Saturday. Please let me know when you can have it here. If you have to, would you please mail it so that we could have it here this weekend?
Banner, I'm gonna try to get ahold of you on AIM, but if you see this first, please give me a call/PM and I can pick this back up from you, I'm heading back up to LA to switch vehicles with my parents at the latest by this Saturday after work, more likely Tuesday after I get out of class.
Let me know man, let's keep this thing moving and helping people!
Okay i'll be going to la this thursday evening so i'll drop it off there. If mk1incali is going to be going...i'll drop it off at his place.
Thanks
If you guys don't get hooked up on Thursday, I'll most likely be heading up there on Saturday night after work, so that is my next possibility.
Banner, you have my number, call if it doesn't work out. I work Friday till 8 or so.
Banner,
Give me a call on my cell sometime on Thursday and give me an ETA. Thanks!
Well, it took me an hour to take it all apart, find that at 17k miles, unlikely to have been adjusted before, my valves are still all to spec, .05 on the left intake and exhaust, .08 on the right. Though I did find my right cylinder is running lean. I'ma have to make another fish tube carb synch, now... Anyways, I lost track of who's next, so if you know your next in line, could you pm me your address so I can send it out Monday?
Queso:
I sent you a PM.

Randy

Just got the kit this weekend. I should wrap it up by the end of next week at the latest.
I'm done with the kit. Whoever's next on the list, please PM me your address and I'll get the kit sent out next week.

Sorry, I'm taking a little long. I've been really short on time, I started a new job and moved to a new place. Hopefully, I can finish it by next weekend.
Yay, my place in line is finally close! My bike's going to love its first valve job. It's 13 years old with 13k miles on it, and as far as I know, never had its valves checked. :o
The updated list is:
Straymonolith Houston, TX (currently has the set)
wyiel Sacramento, CA
ops_south Hamilton, MT
WildBlue Palo Alto, CA
Chilly Willy Seattle, WA
facepants San Jose, CA
I'm gonna take myself off the list. Most likely having to do a rebuild so I'll be digging into it pretty soon:

Sorry Chilly - I might be cutting in line, since WildBlue and I live right next to each other.
Any current info on who has it, etc? I am hoping to receive it before summer comes :dunno_white:
Just finished using the set & my valves are all adjusted to spec!
It looks like all the parts Kerry show in the video are still in the set, so you've got everything you'll need for your valve job. : )
Updated List:

I sent my address to wyiel here a couple days ago. Please advise if you do not receive it, as apparently the first email did not go through.
Thanks
put me down. San Diego, CA
The kit will go out tomorrow to WildBlue. So the list now is:
WildBlue Palo Alto, CA
Chilly Willy Seattle, WA
Sanjay Palo Alto, CA
Nikolas San Diego, CA
Chilly Willy said to say hi to all, but he's sold his bike, so he doesn't need the kit anymore.
WildBlue Palo Alto, CA
Sanjay Palo Alto, CA
Nikolas San Diego, CA
I grew impatient and bought the tool and shims to do it myself so take me off the list.
WildBlue Palo Alto, CA
Sanjay Palo Alto, CA
Looks like the kit finally found a home.
Now if only ratbike were ready, we could have a party!
So is nobody on the list after sanjay? I'd like to be put on the list. I just checked my valves yesterday and two of them were tight, so I'd like to change them ASAP.
It's probably best to PM your address to the person before you on the list rather than posting it. :thumb:
Good call Pandy, I'd hate to get all the hate mail
Anyways my understanding of the currrent list is
Sanjay Palo Alto, CA (currently has it?)
ducati_nolan Bainbridge Island (Seattle), WA
anyways just sent a PM to sanjay, so....cool :thumb: Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong about the list or who currently has the kit
Thanks everyone
Sanjay, I have a bunch of shims to add to the kit and need to use it (wont take me long). Is there any way that I could pick it up? I live in San Jose.
If it's alright with you ducati_nolan :)
Thanks
OK so what is the situation with this kit ???
Cool.
Srinath.
Well.. I sent sanjay a pm on the 3rd, but haven't heard anything back from him yet.
I sent sanjay a pm on Feb 22 I think and have gotten no response.
facepants, If you're picking up the kit (If we can find it) that's fine but I'd like to get my hands on it ASAP, so if you could send it off in short order, it would be much apreciated.
cool
Wont be a problem. I'll only need it for a day.
Sorry guys, I've been kinda busy and forgot to reply to those PMs. WildBlue still has it, and I still haven't done my valves.
As far as I know, he needed a shim or two, but by now he's probably done. We should both be done by this weekend or the coming week. But Nolan, if you really need it urgently, I can send it out or give it to facepants and do mine later.
It'll only take me a day to do it and I'll have it done the first weekend that get the kit and I'll have it no longer than a week (probally less) I promise.
If you want to do your valves first, that's okay but If you're going to be busy, and keep the kit for a couple weeks please send it on to me.
Thanks
Nolan
You can go ahead and skip me again. I ordered shims and the tool already.
So quick update in case PM's haven't gotten around, as far as I know the kit is with Sanjay and he was going to send it to Nolan after doing his valves. I believe he's out of town for spring break though, so if he hasn't sent it out it's probably because of that.
Hey Nolan,
Sent you a PM about being put on the list after you.
Okay, the kit was on my doorstep when I got home from work tonite :thumb:
I'm just about to start tearing my bike apart, and hopefully will get it done this evening, if not, I'll do it this weekend.
So it looks like pingpong is next on the list, unless I'm skipping someone, so go ahead and send me a PM with your adress pingpong.
Okay, I sent the kit off to Ping Pong. It was awesome being able to use the kit, but all of the shims are 265 and thicker, so most people will probaly need to buy shims anyways, but it's nice being able to use the little tool.
Please put on the list next for the kit. Shoot me a PM when it is my turn and I will provide an address.

I don't need it anymore. Thanks anyways. Also, a word of advice. If you notice valve ticking, check to make sure you didn't leave the bolts connected your header to the engine somewhere on the highway.
pingpong is sending it to me next, I'll be redoing my valves hopefully to spec this time. :icon_rolleyes:
any chance I could get in line for the kit?
Sure, I'll send it out to you when I'm done with it. Might still be a couple of weeks though.
hey as long as i can use it before the 19th of aug
Is the kit still floating around? I really could use it.
It's still with pingpong, the list right now is:
Nepix
jazerr
*edit* I'm taking myself off the list for now, one of you guys PM pingpong to get the kit from him.
alright jazerr
I should be getting the kit in a few days, im heading up north for the weekend to visit my parents. When I get back ill do my valve adjustment and ill send it to you
Status on the kit? Did pingpong send it out? He just sold his bike
Last I contacted Nepix, he still didnt have it. I'm needing it pretty badly. .
What's the list looking like right now?
I'm nearing 5k and I doubt the PO ever checked the valves.
Thanks!
I am thinking of doing a valve adjustment in near future.... would be grateful if someone send the kit. Is there anyone else on the waiting list?
I'd like to use it at the same time as Nikux as I've now got 3 GSs to work on in my group o riding buddies.
niKux, if you need help, lemme know and we can get yours done first, then I can steal the kit after we button your bike back up together and then I'll use it on my bike/my buddy's bikes.
Can i get on the list, Phx, AZ Here. bike been down for about 2 weeks. Been trying i troubleshoot a stalling issue for 2 mos. Stalls EXACTLY like blueskygals, ive checked EVERYTHING and I am conviced the dealer goofed on my valves just like her's but they want to charge me to recheck! Dealers Suck!!
so how exactly does this thing work? you just pay shipping to the next guy or something? im due for a valve check.

Yep, that's pretty much it. Along with leaving
at least as many shims in the kit as it had when you got it. (Unless you were
missing one or more when you got it. ;))
UNFORTUNATELY...

"O shaZam! man, my bad. I moved out a few months ago, and USPS returned the
package to me (unfortunately, the new tenants didn't tell me until I just
called them about it). They're mailing it out to me, and I'll ship it to

9+ days so far ... the new tenants must have opted for Amazon-style "Super Saver" shipping.... :icon_rolleyes:
16+ days so far. Has anyone heard from pingpong? He still hasn't logged on since 18 August 2007, so I don't think he could have gotten anyone's address to forward the kit on.... :icon_confused:
Pablo, maybe you can "ping" ol' pingpong again?

Nepix
jazerr
510
nikux
da602krew
CndnMax?
Please add or remove as needed and repost the list.
can I get the next address PM'd to me so I can get that directly to piingpong?
p-
Kerry, what would the GS sound like if the shims had a little wear on them ?
I guess a "tick" is the closest sound I can think of. You can fast forward to the last minute (or so) of my valve clearance video and hear what a REALLY loose shim sounds like. Divide that by about 5 to get the sound of a moderately loose shim.
I have the test kit and I'm done with it. Who is next on the list? :2guns:

I got the kit from Tussey. Let me know whose next, Thanks!
It looks like it's bargovic. (See the EAST Coast thread....)

Not that I know of. Pablo contacted him and heard back, I tried contacting him and
didn't hear back, and that's all I know.
I would like to be next on the list for this kit. While my carbs are getting cleaned by Srinath I would like to check the valves.
Anyone know how far i would be on the list and who has the kit? I'll also check the East coast thread to see the progress on that kit.
I think the west coast kit is stuck at pingpong's.
I accidentally started a post on the East Coast kit, I'd like to be on the list for the West Coast kit if it ever shows up... I'd like to be in line somewhere before the kit leaves Cali, I'm in the south half. Bike has over 8K and don't think the valves have ever been checked. I have a feeling they are within tolerances but it would be nice to check and see, and adjust if necessary. There is a little 'tick" we think it's the cam chain.... :icon_confused:
The other stuff on the list is slowly getting done, today was oil and filter with Motul 10/40 synthetic, a 14t sprocket and iridium plugs. Stock plugs looked great coming out, one was perfect, the other just a bit of carbon and a little light gassy smell, but the bike was still on warm up, and it seems the right side kicks in first, then the left comes online when starting it... It was the left that had a little carbon, I think it was just that the choke was still just a little bit from completely closed, and it wasn't really warm yet. We just brought it over from the laoner garage.
Only possible pass would be that Husband heard "buckets and shims" and turned white, so I am downloading the video and will give it a good look see before asking for the kit to be sent on, just looking for a heads up here...
THANKS! ;)
Teek
EDIT: AWESOME video, Kerry, thanks so much, WOW! I feel like I could take the old laptop down and just watch it while I do the work.
Okay, just to clarify as I already posted on the East Coast thread, I currently have the EAST COAST kit, which seems to be the only one left. I am trying to get a replacement feeler gauge set for it.
I have a valve cover gasket and shim source lined up in case I need a gasket and a set of shims that are NOT in the kit. I'm aiming for this Sunday, but since I've told everyone that... hope nothing hits the fan.
West Coasters are asked to contribute $5. toward a new West Coast kit.
According to the list, it looks like gmark will be next in line. Right now the kit is in SoCal.
Wish me luck! ;)
any way i can get on this list?
whats the symptoms of needing a valve adjust?
i have a ticking in the head that comes and goes at idle, any rpm, and under load at any rpm
it will tick for anywhere from 5-30 seconds then stop for anywhere between 20seconds - 2 minuets
sorry its a little confusing so like the east coast one is the only one which means theres west coast list ontop of the east coast list of people needing it?
I just posted this reply to the other thread:
You are after gmark. I'll post here and on the other thread when I'm done. Yes, it's the East coast kit that we on the West coast are borrowing, we are also donating $5 or whatever you can add cash wise to the kit to raise the funds to replace the West Coast kit. More is always better. 8)
The kit will be mailed to you, you then pay to ship it to the next person. Priority mail is best; it's quickest and safest.
I have replaced the worn feeler gauges and will likely throw in the little pocket magnet I got as well, the tweezers make me nervous.
In the meantime you can check out Kerry's awesome step by step video, a copy of which is included in the kit.
I'm not a mechanic, but I used to do minor service on my cars. I know that car valves "tick" and I know what that sounds like, but someone here can answer that question better if you post it in the main forum.
My 2001 GS has a tick too, but it seems to be related to the cam tensioner(?) and I hear it up front. Comes and goes but usually mostly after it's hot and has been running in the canyons for an hour or so, and I mostly hear it when going downhill! :dunno_white:
Maybe because of engine braking deceleration.
The East coast kit will be heading back east shortly, and has been upgraded. A collection is being taken for a new West Coast kit. This is a really cool deal, please contribute. 8)
Hi Teek,
I haven't seen instructions anywhere on how to contribute? Did I miss this info? Are people using the kit mailing cash around? Or is someone taking a collection through PayPal? :dunno_white:
nikux included a Ziploc with $5. and it was his idea, and I think it's super, it's currently a suggested donation for whoever is using this East coast kit to help resurrect a West coast kit. I think an additional collection through PayPal for a West coast kit would be great, I'd kick in another $5. towards it too. Every $5. buys another shim. I just didn't want to post it without talking to the people who would have to get the parts together. Hopefully they are reading this thread... ;) It would probably be pretty helpful, if we think that we all need to do this every so often, and having to keep shipping it across the country makes people wait longer. For the price of shipping there's a good chance people can swap out some shims from the kit with luck, and the bucket tool is like $45.? Plus with the micrometer and the DVD and the other tools, I know I'd rather put the money into the bike than into tools for it, I don't know how long I'll have a GS. I saw a red Ducati Monster 750 in the shop today when I took the shim set back. Then turned around and there was a black one behind me... I got prices and mileage.
Yeah, I really support the idea of Paypal too, :thumb:, that way people who have already used the kit and benefited from it can also donate whatever amount they want to. Anyone needing the kit on the west coast ready to take on the lead with this? I hope people will be happy to contribute for a good cause.
Any experienced guy has an idea how much it takes to build one complete kit?
gmark is too busy right now, so suzukimx4789 is next on the list.
gmark may be next after him.
The kit will be on it's way as soon as I hear back from suzukimx4789.
Don't let my defective gasket issue worry anyone, what I learned was if it seems it's really too big, it probably is. The second one went on much better. I haven't ridden the bike yet, the carbs are off for a rejet, but it looks like it will be okay. I don't have that nagging suspicion in the back of my head! ;)
It looks like lewismug was accidentally skipped?
So what I see on the 2 lists is
suzukimx4789
lewismug
gmark
got the kit will work on it if injury allows it.....(long story short) my car broke down on way to pick up the kit. i was repairing it on the side of the road and the drivers front rotor dropped on my shoulder and dislocated it..it may be a few days to a week before completion of the valve adjustment
Please post in the east coast kit to get in line until the west cost kit is rebuilt.
Hey Everyone! Long time no post but I have great news.
Not sure how many of you guys know, but I've been going back and forth with USPS regarding somehow losing the kit. The first time, it got bounced back to me for no apparent reason, so I went back, dropped it off, AND got a receipt. A month later, I get an email asking if I still have the kit, so I go to the USPS office here and they said they'll track it down. I got no response from anyone, so I figured the next guy on the list got the kit. Fast forward a couple months, and I get another email about the kit, so I check-in with USPS again, and somehow the package is still in their system, but they don't know where.
I've been bugging USPS about this every other week, and lo and behold, the package arrived at my doorstep (well actually my apartment mailbox) this afternoon, all beat up and raggedy (no joke, the box looks like somebody played football with it, then use it to cook some chili on, and finally shitted all the chili back onto it).
In any case, Yun (not sure what his name on the forums is) will be coming to pick it up soon, and will send it off to whoever's next on the list after he's through with it.
Sorry about all the headaches the missing valve kit has cost you guys. Ride safe!
Hi Guys,
I'll be going to pick it up from pingpong later today. Who's next on the list? I'll be able to send it out first thing Thursday.
Thanks!
Wow thats good news... One kit lost, one lost kit resurfaces :)
Ok guys, we now need a donation before the kit is shipped to anyone. Kyle has donated $20.00 to the pot and I have a poll going on right now to see what the expected donation amount should be. I will leave the poll open for one week. This has been started simply as an effort to keep the kit moving and as a way to be able to replace the kit if it is ever lost again. A lot of money goes in to creating one of these kits and some have contributed quite a bit more than others. The donation requirement will ensure that everyone who uses the kit makes an equal contribution. This will apply to both the West Coast, and East Coast kits (if the East Coast kit ever comes out of hiding again)
A PayPal account has been set up and already has a balance of $20.00. This will be the official method to donate if you want the kit to be shipped to you.
The PayPal account is: gstwin@bellsouth.net
The balance will be updated each time a donation is made and a list of people who have donated will also be kept here: http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=41347.msg465166#msg465166 (http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=41347.msg465166#msg465166)
Simply paying shipping to the next name on the list has worked well for almost 4 years for the kits. The only glitch has been this USPS goof. It's a community kit, and my two cents is that one shouldn't be *required* to donate to get the kit. :dunno_white:
Pandy, this is the reason we have been having this conversation for the last few weeks.

We have been asking for input from all of the members of this forum and only a handful has let us know their opinions. Either way, donating or not donating is fine with me. We just need to get as many people as possible to see what everyone thinks. I think the idea of making a donation in order to get the kit was thrown around when the East Coast kit was held in limbo, and still is, by a member. The reason the kit is still held up is because the guy who has it was busted shooting houses (I think) with paintballs. Oh, and the police checked the vin on his GS and it came back as being stolen, so it was impounded by the police. We figured that the best way to keep the kit circulating, and to have funds available for a new kit, was the donations. I think a moderator should post a stickie, or even just a normal thread and take a vote. Either there should be a donation to get the kit, or a deposit (which you will get back) for the kit, or it stays as it has for so long. Like I said, either way is fine with me. I don't want to be viewed as the new guy who tries to run things, so I will hush up on this subject and stop being proactive. I'll let you guys who have been here longer decide what happens. Kyle, let me know what to do with the $$ you have already donated. I can either send it back to you, or send it to the official GSTwin donation link.
Damn, and I thought my USPS snaffu with the west coast kit was bad. The situation with the east coast kit is just WTF! I should probably lurk around the boards more often...but man, now I feel really bad not checking in with USPS more often seeing as how the east coast kit was also MIA.
Just out of curiosity, what do you guys ship it via? I had it shipped to me with USPS, and since I live a block away from the post office, I figured USPS was the best move. I guess on the bright side, I did eventually get the kit back...last time I used Fedex to ship a flyscreen to another member, but Fedex lost it and never did reimburse me for the price of the flyscreen .
On a happier note, the rise in gas prices will be forcing me to drive my 10MPG (*tear*) RX-7 less and get a bike again...maybe an SV650?
Aite, I'm done with it. Gotta say that the west coast kit actually has a few more parts in it than the east coast one. The magnet on a stick was really helpful :)
Anyway, let me know who I should ship it off to next. I guess East coast is included since theirs still hasn't appeared yet.
I think Tang, then me, then astroaru would be the que on the East coast side. I don't want us to break in line though.
Alright, I'll PM Tang. I guess it's fair since there's no line for the west coast kit and the east coast ppl are without a kit.
Thanks!
Can I break into the queue here and request it? I am already on the east coast queue, I will remove myself from there? Let me know if that works. However, if tang or lewismug want it, I will wait :thumb:
I'd like to get put at the queue for the kit whenever you guys are finished with it. Sounds like there are 2-3 others in line, so no hurry. Thanks guys!
"510": it has been a loooonnngggg time since I emailed you regarding the kit. No responses yet :dunno_white: Please spare some time replying to email and looking at the forum posts

Hey sorry man, I didn't get your PM for some reason... I keep an eye on the messages, but it doesn't seem like I got yours.
Anyway, I already sent it out to Tang last Saturday, so it should be getting there pretty soon...
Thanks!
lol... so tang currently has two kits then. :2guns:

Yeah... I was under the impression that the east coast kit was still missing, so I looked at the east coast list and Tang was next in line.
Sorry dude...
Astroaru PM me your address so when i get he kit i can mail it to you asap
Tang: emailed you my address to po*****@yahoo.com
please email me back when you ship it out. Thanks
alright! :thumb:
Way to keep these kits movin guys! Astro, whenever you're done, toss me a PM. Thanks guys!
sure. I am expecting the kit by this weekend. If all goes well, I should be able to ship it by the Monday/Tuesday. Will pm you then Sector9 :thumb:
blah sorry did't get to ship the kit out i'm def. going to ship it out tomorrow i'm sorry for the delay
don't get mad at me
lol
No worries Tang
I am held up till Wednesday. I will be able to work on it only after that. If you ship it tomorrow (friday) by snail mail, I will have the kit by Wednesday which will be perfect for me as well. :thumb:
just to let everyone know i sent out the west coast kit today
ETA should be Next friday to Astroaru
thanks i'm going to jump back ont he east coast now bwahahah
Guys: wanted to let y'all know that I received the kit today in bad shape. Looks like UPS has handled the package very very badly. :2guns:
The kit seemed like someone had opened it and tampered with the contents. All the tools were mixed up and shims were all over the place. So i have about 13 shims that I collected all over the box. I hope I am not missing any major tool that was supposed to be there.
I will work on my valves ASAP and send it around to 'sector 9'. Sector 9 pm me your address. Will pm you when I send it your way. I am hoping that everything will be over by sunday.
:thumb:
Sometimes the shipping is a bit less than delicate. Last time I got it, I added more foam padding to make sure everything stayed in place.
Here's a previous pic Kerry took of the kit before sending it out:
Quote from: Kerry on May 24, 2006, 11:13:13 PM
The next time the kit surfaces, I'd be curious to know what it (still) contains.
Shims come and go, things get broken or lost - that's just life. I probably won't see the kit again for a LOONG time (I've got a duplicate set of tools ;) ), but if anything is missing I'd like to help get it back "up to snuff".
For reference, here is what the kit contained when it last left my possession:
Thanks pandy. I just saw the kit and the missing items are marked with red boxes. :icon_lol:

Did the valve clearance check today. Both the exhaust and one of the intake valve gaps were in spec. The other intake valve needed a 2.55 mm shim that I did not find in the kit. I have placed the order, should take a week before I get it.
Sector 9: Will send it once done. It all depends on when I get the shims here. Will also pm you with the tracking info when I send it your way.
So how are the checking/adjusting going guys? Having any problems? Im half way through watching Kerrys excellent video  and it seems like something I could do myself. I guess Id like to be put on the list. Thanks!
Actually the whole process is fairly simple. Since you have a 99 GS, it should be much easier, I had to take off my fairings to get the valve cover off. Millionth thanks to Kerry for that excellent video. Made the whole process look easy  We look forward to many more video tutorials from you. All in all, shouldn't take more than 2-3 hours. Good luck.
finally the 2.55 shim arrived and I finished my valve adjustment. Unfortunately, I could not run the bike as it is down with goat's or whatever.
I have sent it to "sector 9" by USPS and the ETA is Wednesday.
The tracking number is 03080730000070737236.
Sector 9 pm me when you receive it and thanks for being patient.
Got the kit. I'll be doing my valves this weekend, hope to have it out early next week to Skidmax. Skidmax, you want to PM me your shipping address so I can send it your way when I'm done?
Update: Got 2.65mm shims put into both my exhaust valves, just have to clean up the valve cover and gasket and toss it back together. SKIDMAX, I can send the kit your way as soon as I get your info.
My bike has been having problems that I've read on here could be caused by out of spec valve clearances. I supposedly had the valves adjusted at the dealership but the bike still won't idle. Can someone add my name to the list? I'm in El Cerrito, CA

lucky you! the kit had plenty of 2.65's. It is always a nice feeling when you find something that you need inside the kit itself.
umm
fogive me for asking but how does this work?
if you want to adjust em you request and hold the "kit" untill the next request?
i was given a 90' 500E
dont know it's history (past the last few months) but i'd like to take care of this, so i know it's done.
BTW my bike just rolled to 20k mi
Starshooter, You have it right. This thread serves as a queue/ line of people who want the kit. Whoever has the kit ships it to the next person in the queue, who then adjusts their valves and sends the kit off to the next person.
Currently, I have the kit and if you'd like to be put on it, the list goes like this:
Me
SKIDMAX
C-Fut
Starshooter10
I'm waiting to hear back from a PM to Skidmax with his addy so I can ship it off. My bike's back up and running great. I think cleaning the valve cover gasket got rid of a few minor oil leaks I had, but we'll see when some more miles are racked up. to Kerry for the video and getting this going!
this is an awesome idea...
and my buddie might be picking up a GS umm..
saturday?
lemme know if that cleaning of the gaskets worked...
im finding myself adding alot of oil to this thing...
the top of my head is always wet and so is the oil filter cover? (right behind the front tire)
common places to leak?
Add me to the list please :) My bike only has 14k but since its a '91 and I dont know the history, would rather check just so I know. Do you guys recommend using a new valve cover gasket or just cleaning? Any other recommended parts for the job? I will watch Kerry's video again...
so my buddie did get a 92 with 60k mi O_O
should i wait to hear back from cfut? or just check this thread ?
and +1 on "reuse old gasket or new one"
and can i have a linky to this vid?
it would be helpfuill

I'm in the middle of my valve adjustment and have run into a problem. I checked the intake valves and they are all withing specs. My front right exhaust valve was a little tight so i removed the shim and put the smallest shim I have in the kit but still too tight. I'll have to order a shim. Anyways the problem is with the left exhaust valve. It is also tight so I wanted to remove the shim. The thing is I can't move the bucket around so I can line the notch and use a screwdriver to pry the shim loose I have the valve shim tool pushing the bucket down but can't seem to get the shim loose. Anybody have and experiences or tips. I'm stuck and can't move further. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance
I use a strong magnet to get the shims out; one of those automotive magnets on the end of a metal rod. In your case, it's worth a try!
C-Fut,
Try pushing the bucket down just a little more with the valve tool. A few times I thought it was far enough down to let the shim out, but couldn't get it loose. I would carefully push it down a little bit more and the shim would be free. The magnet in the kit is helpful as well.
depending on whats stronger i'll drop in one or two of MY magnets...
i got some that are SUPER stong...
Hey Starshooter10... PM me your address. The idling problem I had is gone. Feels almost like a new bike. Just a few more things to do and she should be good as new :thumb:
Glad to see the line moving along and everyone having good luck :)
yup i should be getting the kit tonight from Cfut
i'll do that and hopfully that'll get rid of my "suzuki tiick"
i just dropped in new coils and a few other things....
it's starting to come togther!
Please add me to the list.
I'd like to be added to the queue as well
looks like juan is next?
anyone who thinks there in front of juan lemme know...
i did my GS and hurt my hand ima hold onto the kit a few more days and do my other Gs and ship it off :)
my buddie wrecked his GS and sold it to me for 100$ so yeah.
i got 2 GS :thumb:
I believe I am next. I will PM you my address. Thanks.

Thanks

Please add me to the list! I think I'm hearing valve float. It's a 95 with 10,500 on it, and I don't know if the valves have ever been adjusted.
Hi i am new to the forum, and cant say enough good stuff about it. I recently started a full restoration, down to the last bolt on my 97 GS. I installed new rings/honed cylinders and now need to adjust the valves. Can i be placed on the list for the shim kit in the So. Cal area?
I plan on starting a page detailing the teardown and rebuild with photos, when i get some time. Thanks

Happy New Year!
Guy's , I'm in desperate need of the kit asap, so whoever has it please hustle.. ;)
Thanks. civcklr@aol.com
Please add me to the list.
Thank you.
Has this been sent yet? I haven't received it.
Sent to Juan1 today. There was a bit of a mixup when I trusted someone else to ship it for me. Terribly sorry for the delay everyone :(
Mark me down for this list.....I don't think it has been done in 8k or so :)
I've got the kit now. Will do the valves this weekend.
The kit is in dire need of shims under 270. I think there are only 270s and 275s in there now.
I'll have to finish my valve job next weekend since I'm waiting on 255s and 250s. I ordered an extra one for the kit.
Who wants to be next on the list. I've PM'ed everyone on the list, and everyone has either not responded or sold their GS.
Hi there,
I'm new to the forum. I have a '96 GS500 and she's coming up on 4000 miles. According to the service schedule, I'm due for a valve clearance check, and potentially an adjustment to follow. I'm thinking that the kit would really help me out. I've gone through Kerry's video (most excellent) and I've done the reading online as well as in my Hanes manual. I think I'm ready to go - except for the tools and the shims (if required).
I've got a couple of questions though :
(1) The Hanes manual talks about replacing the valve cover o-rings. Is that necessary? and if so... are these stock o-rings that I can pick up from the local Schucks Auto Supply? What size do I ask for?
(2) I haven't opened her up yet, but I do have feeler gauges. Would it be best for me to check and see of the shims need to be swapped out first, or get the kit and then check the clearance? I'd like the kit, but I don't want to request it prematurely.
Thanks for any help you can lend me.
1. No, it isn't necessary, but it is a decent idea to make sure all of yours are intact.
2. You're now #1 on the list, so I can just send you the kit if you'd like.
Well I figure if no-one else is on the list, then I'm not holding anyone up. Please send it to me, and I will have it handy in case I need to use it. I'll send it along as soon as someone else requests the kit.
Thanks :thumb:
Juan,
Just Pm'd you. I was back in CHicago on business didn't check my email.
All you guys in Phoenix.......if Juan sends me the kit I have the garage space to put 4 bikes (more like a carport, but hey) we can do it all together if you want. I am in East Mesa.
Hi guys - I checked the valve clearances this weekend - and I do need to make and adjustment on the right-side exhaust valve.
Juan - I'm not sure if you sent the kit out to Farakin or not yet - but it sounds like he's ready to put it to work. Whatever works for you guys is good with me. Just so long as I'm on the list and I get the kit eventually. Thanks!
The kit is en route to Farakin's. It should arrive Friday or Saturday.
Sounds good. Let me know when you plan to be done with the kit. I suspect you'll want some weekend time with it Farakin. I'd appreciate you sending it to me when you're finished with it. Thanks :thumb:
Yeah, thanks Juan. I will try and knock a couple GS's from the valley hopefully
Got the kit yesterday, thanks for sending it, will try and tackle this weekend.
I would like to be on the Kerry's valve adjusting kit list.
Can I get this kit by middle of May?
Should be possible. I'm getting the kit when Farakin is done - but I've already checked my clearances and I know that I have only one valve clearance to adjust - so I'm hoping that I can do this quickly.
I have to order some smaller shims that aren't in the kit. Bad news is it will take me a bit longer, good news is, I am buying extra smaller shims for the kit :/
Cool by me. My initial measurements tell me that I'm going to need a narrower shim than stock - so I'd likely have to buy one anyway. Where do you buy shims from anyway?
can i get on the list asap. i'm about due for a checkup which i'll do monday and it seems possible that i will need an adjustment.
can someone evealuate this for me?
i have an 06 with 18k miles, 11k of which i put on in the last year. i don't know of prior service but when i got the bike(7k miles) it was running fine. idle held very steady at 1300 rpm(what i remember). i've yet to check the valves because it runs great.
my symptoms now are:
1. idle(needle) hovers ~1250-1350 rpm.
2. the right side(when sitting on bike) exhaust pipe gets orange(in the dark) when i have the choke on while the left side does not change color. this started happening maybe 3-4k miles ago. also the same time that i noticed that the bike was emitting more than normal heat during warmup(due to right side pipe getting hot.
3. the bike after warmup runs fine. no problems at all.
A few questions about this mailing list.
How should I know if my turn for the kit is up?
How should I provide my mailing address?
Just would like to know the drill for passing down this kit to next person.

When you're finished with the kit, you check this thread to see who's next in line, and then you send them a PM. Post up here that you're finished, too.
It's best to keep a running list here, so anyone who adds their name to the list should update the list in their post.
This looks like the list at the moment (feel free to correct it, though!):
Farakin (has kit?)
rah
cyrusyn
caliswangin916
Does that look about right? :icon_mrgreen:
The list looks right to me. Still waiting for kit.
I'm back...sorry about hanging on to the kit for so long, but I got into a bad car accident when I was visiting some friends in Chicago...had a nasty break in my arm, separated shoulder, and a Steve Young like concussion....
But, I am back in AZ...Who gets the kit?
Dude,
Sorry to hear about your arm!
You can send the kit to me, My address should be in your PM inbox.
Everyone, I received the kit in good order last week - but i'll need to hang onto it until the coming weekend if you desperately need it sooner, please let me know.
When it's convenient, I'd love it if it could come my way.
Thanks much.
Take your time.
Adding myself next in line :D .... am in bay area (sunnyvale) and have done it before so if any of you are somewhere nearby i can drop by to do the valve adjustment with ya..

I am in downtown San Francisco. That would be great.
Rah, are you done?
I would like to add my name to the list. Thanks.
is the kit even moving? Rah are you done with the kit? did you pass it on?
Sent.
Chipped in a tweezer and 255, 265 chips.
caliswangin916 will have it by early next week.
got the kit. it's missing some stuff from the page 2 pic but the important ones are still there.
i'm not going to be able to do it until at least next week. will get it moving asap.
What's the page 2 pic?
page 2 of this thread has a pic of the items in the kit. it's missing the bigger screw driver, sealant, magnet, bolts, cd. i'll try to replace some of them.
i got the kit ready to go minus the magnet pen needed. i can send it out tomorrow as i got i. otherwise i can get a magnet pen in the kit and have it out as soon as monday 9/28/09. i might be able to swap some shims with a local shop to get some smaller ones in the kit if the next person requests it. i'll just need some more time to get them.
i don't think erslincoln has been on in a while but i did send him a pm about the kit. otherwise i will move down the line if i don't hear from erslincoln in a week or so.
I would like to add my name to the list.
Someone correct me if I have it wrong.

I just got my bike from "dadsafrantic" and we are going to be doing our valves, So I'm adding my name to the list. How long might I ask?
say, you folks wouldnt mind shipping out to the east coast to make it a national kit would you? :p
sorry for the hold up everyone. i have the kit ready to go. sent a pm to erslincoln last week and another today. sent a pm to nikux as well today. if i don't hear from either one of them by wednesday, then it's going to donhabee by friday.
i'm throwing in a pen magnet from HF and changed some of the shims for smaller ones. not sure if the pen magnet is small enough to work since i didn't use it.
I would like to add my name to the list as well. This is a really nice thing you guys have going here, I would like to thank everyone who has helped with this.

erslincoln said he didn't need it. so the kit was sent to nikux yesterday.
Just got the kit. Will work on the bike this weekend.
Since the east-coast kit got jacked, could this be a national kit? I'd really like to do this procedure, but we're dry over here thanks to our friend Eric Ryan Wiltse. Who's the judge on that?

whos next on the line?

Is it possible to get this sent to NorthWest Arkansas?? Workin on the bike over the winter and I'll need to do this soon.
Thanks,

Got the kit Monday and changed the shims changed today.
I think all the shims in the kit are 2.6 or larger.
The batteries were low in the caliper so I put in a fresh set.
Who ever is next pm me shipping info and I'll send it out ASAP.

Yup, I got the kit the other day, I hope to get it done this weekend, at the latest, next weekend.
From the looks of it this is the current waiting list?

Can someone confirm this?
Thanks,

Unless someone objects I will send this kit out to the east coast to element guy.
been a few years since i sold my last gs500
was doing a bit of house cleaning in the garage and found a valve adjusting tool that kerry built, along with a few *6 or 8* shims.
i was thinking maybe of sending this to Kerry.
THIS IS NOT A GIVE-AWAY to a member to have stashed in their tool box! I want the tool and shims to go with the kit!
thoughts?
*i'll check again after the new year*
chris<pixelmonkey>:D
Received the kit a couple of days ago. May have to wait till the weekend to work on it.
Pixel, if you want me to add to the kit, pm me. If you want to start a second kit then by all means do so.
I would like to get in line for the valve adjustment kit. I'm located in Los Angeles.
Hey - what is included in this kit?
How much to ship to Toronto ON? From where-ever it is now??
Is this kit still going? How can I get added to the list? I'm in the SF Bay area, in case anyone already on the list is in that area.
E-mail sent to get status of kit.
elementguy053 still has the kit and said he'd try to finish with it this weekend.
So here's the list as I see it (feel free to correct, remove your name, etc)):
elementguy053 (has kit)
DLW (Ark)
ilya (Los Angeles, CA)
vorBH (Canada)
007brendan (SF Bay Area, CA)
Just checking back to see where we are with the kit. Anyone?
I sent it to DLW in Arkansas on monday.
Where are we at with the kit? Anyone?
Why do people always seem to sit on these kits? >:(
E-mail sent to get status of kit.....again.... not too cool to throttle (so to speak) the forward progress of the kit! :icon_neutral:
If someone can't use the kit when they're next in line, there's no harm or shame in bumping yourself down a notch on the list! I'll post up when I get an update.
Could I add my name to the list? I'm close to the guy in Toronto, Canada (about an hour) so I could pick it up and do my shims in the same day then send it on its way.
I never got a reply...will try again.
Next in line (ilya, Los Angeles?), please PM me your mailing address; the member who has the kit will pass it along and then get back in line.
Sorry Guys and Gals. I'm the stooge who has been "throttling" the forward progress of the kit. As I told pandy in an email, I haven't been onoline nor working on my bike because I have been going through an unexpected divorce.
Currently my bike isn't even running so I haven't used the kit. However, I have opened it to verify its contents.
Whomever is next in line please PM me your address and I will get it out to you next day.
Hopefully if I'm given the chance, I can get back in line for the kit again once everything settles down for me and I get my bike running again.
Again, I am so sorry for the delay but I hope you all understand my situation.
Cheers from Northwest Arkansas,
DLW
Have I been around long enough to get on the list? If a deposit or contribution is needed let me know. Wondering about my exhaust valves as RPM drops to around 800 when stopping at lights. Thanks
Scott
So here's the list as I see it (feel free to correct, remove your name, etc)):
ilya (Los Angeles, CA)
vorBH (Canada)
007brendan (SF Bay Area, CA)
Firewalker (?)
I have still not heard from the next in line with an address so I still have the kit.
DLW
Try to contact the next in line -- vorBH -- though it says he hasn't logged in in over 2 months.
I am in New Mexico BTW.......are there shims in there now to swap out if one fits? I figured I would buy a couple of the thinner ones to toss in the bag. Seems to be a hot item.
DLW: How many of the thin shims are in there? I will be working on my bike and I may run a feeler to check clearances before hand and order what shims I need while waiting on the kit. Any word on the next guy in line? Have a good day.
Nope still no reply. Guess it depends on what you mean by "thin". I haven't measured any since I really haven't used the kit but I can do that for you tonight.
DLW
They should be stamped on the shims. Just curious what the inventory is.....If there are 8 of the 290 shims it may not work if I am needing 265s.... Know what I mean?
Yes but you can't count on what they are stamped due to wear. So they should be measured. Know what I mean? ;~)
I will measure them tonight and post my findings.
DLW
That's true.....yeah cool...lemme know. Have a good one!

Hi DLW:
If you haven't heard from anyone, please PM me and I'll let you know where to send the kit.
Thanks!

Pandy, PM sent to ya.
DLW
Msg received and replied! Thanks!
any news on the kit progress? Which way did it go??? O0
Seriously, who has it?
I sent it to thegoodguy, per pandy's PM.
He should have gotten it on thursday of this past week.
DLW
Is there an official list. I am trying to see if I need to just buy the stuff and do it. I was looking at 007s list which doesn't mention the good guy. Let me know where I fall in the line so I can make a decision. Thanks
yeah, wtf?
So right now TheGoodGuy has it? I need to do a quick valve check on the bike I just sold, as it's acting up and the valves may be suspect. I'm in the Bay Area. What's the current list?
Here's the list that pandy posted a couple months ago, with updates for people who have posted since then. Apparently, ilya never responded and vorbh hasn't logged on in several months, so the kit got sent to TheGoodGuy per DLW?
ilya (Los Angeles, CA)
vorBH (Canada)
007brendan (SF Bay Area, CA)
Firewalker (New Mexico)
sanjay (Bay Area)
Did the valve adjustment with WildBlue's valve tool, so you can take me off the list. I talked to TheGoodGuy and he has the kit at the moment.
Current:
TheGoodGuy (Los Angeles)
Future:
ilya (Los Angeles)
vorBH (Canada)
007brendan (San Francisco)
Firewalker (New Mexico)
Yeah, take me off the list too. I'm just going to order the tool myself and buy whatever shims I need from the dealer. This kit moves like molasses through superglue. Plus, people don't seem to honor the list even when it does move.
There must have been a good reason TheGoodGuy got it or needed it, probably because DLW didn't get replies about who to send it to. Otherwise usually it gets moved around with some geographic preference, like one person in SF giving it to another in SF instead of shipping it to NYC and back.
In any case, from past experience, the kit does move around pretty slowly sometimes. That's just how it works.
TGG wanted to look it over and get it back in circulation; life got in the way (as it does for all of us).
Kit's ready to go back out. It looks like ilya's next, so PM either TGG or me with your mailing address, and the kit will go out if you still need it.
ilya (Los Angeles)
vorBH (Canada)
007brendan (San Francisco)
Firewalker (New Mexico)
Still want off the list, 007brendan?
Edit: if I've gotten the list wrong, just let me know! :icon_mrgreen:
ilya no longer has GS, so you're up vorBH. :icon_mrgreen:
vorBH (Canada)
007brendan (San Francisco)
Firewalker (New Mexico)
I figured I would have been skipped long ago.....but I am still on the list. Let me know when I am up. The bike really needs to have this done before next riding season. Hope everyone is doing well.
Firewalker: send me your address, and the kit will go out ASAP!
Firewalker the kit has gone out as of today, sorry I was a bit busy this weekend. I never opened it from the previous person so its just stuffed in a box and shipped out.
wow haven't been here in years and i see the kit is still going around! awesome! I will be jumping on soon!

I have not received the kit as of yet and there has been quite a lot of time go by. Was it sent by reqular mail or UPS or? I have not had any trouble receiving things in the past so I am not sure what is up. Was it certified mail? Let me know what's up if you can. Thanks
Scott
You can add me to the list if we end up finding it.
Scott in Seattle
I have received the package and plan on doing my valves on Friday. Thank you for sending.

I know there's a bunch of GS500 owners in the PNW area. Ever thought about doing a tech day. I know my valves haven't had an adjustment in a while. Not sure about centuryghost or adidasguy... What's this West Seattle Club about? :whisper:
Ok, my shims came in.......pretty quick BTW. I just ordered the refill kit of 2.55 shims and had an extra. There are 5 in that refill kit. Was like 32 shipped so not too bad. Might think of them if you need some sizes not in the kit.
Here is the link

Thanks to all who have contributed to this kit being around. It if very complete and Kerry's video makes doing the job so easy. Allow me to thank you again.
Where does the kit need to be sent now?
Scott
I know I am on the list but have a question for firewalker. We discovered some sizes in my engine that aren't orderable. 2.675's to be precise. Could use two more. Are there any in the kit? If so, I may be next on the list. Pm me for address.
Scott
Oh, and we have Seattle work days about every other week here in West Seattle. All are welcome.
There will be two of the 2.62s in there. I think 2.7 or 2.75 would be next up. There was a gap from 2.4 (test shims) to 2.7 so if you are anywhere in between like I was. I needed 4 of the 2.55s in my bike. I tossed in another 2.55. What were the tolerences on your shims. What is in there?
I am ready to send it wherever but I need some direction as far as what the rules are for getting the kit. Going by who knows ya, post count, deposit, ???
I know that one kit was MIA and this one needs to live forever.
Scott
you can take me off the list. i just did mine locally.
Cool......who's next?
I need the kit, how long is the wait?
Crzydood17 - Austin Tx
Hey there, I can get it out tomorrow. Is there a problem with the admins in my sending it on? I have been holding it for a while. I am glad to get it moving.
Scott
please can we get this shipped? i have a feeling my valves are on there last leg lol.... 16k with no adjust <3 the po
any word on this?
i got the kit, muhaha now to take over the world... or atleast take control over my valves...
whos going to need it next im going to do mine next weekend (dont have a spare vehicle incase something breaks till then)
I'd like it please. I'm hoping that the valves have something to do with a high idle problem. /fingers crossed
i also would be interested in using it and passing it along
I'd like to get in line.
Crzydood still have it? then Agno, Weedahoe and myself?

I will PM crzydood17
still waiting to hear back on this
still waiting for a address from the next in line
PM sent with address
Alright Weedahoe, Whenever you are done let me know. I cant wait to see how she runs with a valve adjustment.
IDK bro. I've sent one PM to crzydood some time back and he acted like he did not get it (maybe he didnt???) and he posted the other day and I immediately PM'ed him my address and haven't heard anything from him at all so IDK what's up.
He logged on this morning at 7.53 so IDK why he isn't checking this thread or his PM's
[EDIT] I sent another PM
I hit him up in another thread... no answer there. Looks like I get to buy more stuff.
He sent me a PM yesterday i think and said he had been busy with work and would try to get it out tomorrow i think......
bummer it still hasn't shown up yet...
yeah. hasnt gotten here yet.
Update: the kit came in today. I should have mine done this weekend and out to Agno.
@ agno, pm me your address please.
awesome!
Well my two new shims I had to order came in and I used the one I needed and included the other one in the kit. The kit has also been forwarded to Agno as of yesterday. Thanks guys.
Hey! I've been wanting to ask about this. Are you guys passing around a set of 29.5mm shims? Man I'd love to get in on that while it's still in Socal. I'm in southern Orange County, Mission Viejo. I'm new here, should I request it next or try to get together with someone that already has it? Thanks!
I would think you would need to stick around a while before anyone would pass it to you or at least give some other forums or ebay id showing character reference.
No worries. The job at hand can't wait for us all to get acquainted, so I'm just gonna have to help myself. The Southland Cycle Center in Garden Grove says they have a good supply of the shims I need, here's hoping I don't have to make too many trips. Speaking of... I need to find a ride, lol. Thanks anyway!
I bought new shims from a seller on ebay for $6 each
Do you still have his info? Is he a vendor or an individual with some spares. The only ones I see online now are only a dollar less than i can get them over the counter, and the guy already sounds like kind of a bastard.
his email is lillianmiller777@gmail.com
his ebay uid is lillianmiller-777

status on the kit? I'd be stoked to get it for the two builds I've got going right now. Pretty sure I'm at least close to next in line.
Not sure exactly who is next in line but I am done with the kit. Worked great and made everything a cinch.
Pretty sure I am. PM me for address.
How about just PM'ing me your address?
What are the OD of the shims used in the GS500e?
Cheers,
RC
29.5mm shim size
Please add me to the list. I'm in San Diego
This is my understand of the list:
Agno (still has the kit) -> kidsixteen -> me.
Is this correct? I PM'ed Agno, but haven't received a response. He's logged on since I sent my PM.
It's on its way to me.. I think there's a few so cal guys on the list, not 100% sure though..
Cool. Just wanted to make sure I'd be able to see the kit in the next couple of months.
Yep the Kit went out to Kidsixteen a week or two later than I had planned but it should hopefully be there by now.
I have it now. Going to do mine this weekend and pass it along.
Any movement on this?
Can anyone contact Kidsixteen? He's had the kit for 2 months now, and hasn't logged on since early last month.
any chance of getting the kit here in central cali? i live in kings county, not sure if anyone else out here needs their valves done but mine are stock from factory at 12k miles :(
Kidsixteen still has the kit.
I think i sold some stuff to kidsixteen, i'll see if i can't dig up some contact info for y'all
EDIT- yuup! Shot him an e-mail, hopefully I'll hear back.
Any word on this?
Whats the staus of the kit?
Looks like this kit has disappeared as the member that last got it seems to have flaked out. I am going to un-sticky and if it turns up somewhere it can be stickied again.
