Well I decided that my bike just like girls looks better naked! So Ive decided to turn it into an E I think im already halfway there. :dunno_white: I just wanted to know if I could use an sv650 headlight instead of the one on the gs500e. Well here are some pics, so far. So what do you guys/gals think?

Doesnt look too bad! I'm not sure about the SV, tho i'm sure someone knows. I thought the oil cooler was much bigger for some reason, it hides well.

Just my .02. I like the naked look but knowing and seeing other F's the tank decals seem outta place. How tough would it be to remove the decals on it? Or maybe cap it off w/ a black stripe under the silver highlight. The flush mount turn signals look great! What brand and how much are they? Did u paint the front end of the pipe? Mine is new but seems to be rust colored.
The yellow ones are awesome - put those plastics back on :nono:!
Since my bike is yellow in guessing its going to be faster than the blue or black ones :2guns: . Anyway the flushmounts were purchased at a kawasaki dealer by my home. I forgot what brand they are but they were like $12. I used epoxy to get them on the bike. I havent painted my pipe its probly because it never rains here so there is no moisture for it to rust :dunno_white: .. Im also planing on chroming my wheels swingarm, exhaust, engine, and all levers, then Im going to slap on a sproket the size of a pizza so I can do wheelies....HAHAHAHA j\k. Well any other suggestions will be appreciated.
An SV650 headlight will not work without the GS mounting brackets. The GS has 37mm forks and the SV has 41mm forks. However, an SV headlight bucket MIGHT mount up to the GS brackets. Not sure yet because I'm still looking for an SV headlight bucket for cheap.

Was originally an '04F, then an '04E, then damaged the '04 tank and got an '05 one. Traded the white tail for a blue one, now it's an '05 E.

Personally, I don't think the tank decals look out of place at all. Have you seen the '02 paint scheme? They have a similar design.

I am also considering just fitting some dual foglights into the bike..Am I going to have to purchase new mirrors also?? And I am also digging those handlebars. So how good is the output of the current headlight you have on there, that is what I am mostly concerned about. I want to have good light output because I do alot of night driving and there are some dark streets here.

Do NOT just get foglights. You need a real headlight on there as well. You can add foglights if you want later, but your primary concern should be a proper headlight.
Yes, you will have to purchase new mirrors, as you no longer have a fairing to mount yours too. As you can see in my signiture I am using SV650 mirrors. Pretty much any bar mount mirror will work, except for those from Yamaha and Ducati, as they have reverse-threads on the right hand mirror.
The handlebars are awesome, yes. :)
The light output of my headlight (a stock '92 light) is very good. I haven't had any problems with it yet. I am probably going to get a brighter bulb for it eventually though.
nooooooooooooooooo not another one !!!!!!! :nono: :nono: :nono: :2guns: :2guns: :2guns: .. my poor poor F ... hes so ..... unwanted !!!!! you monsters you mean mean monsters :flipoff: :flipoff: :flipoff:   nice
C'mom now, everyone knows that naked is better!!!
For some odd reason the bike feels ligher now...but It could just be me being retaded...But yea I guess Il get a proper headlight so I can see good at night.

It is just your imagination. You did drop about 5 pounds with the lower fairing off though. Soon as you replace the headlight you'll have dropped 20lbs from the bike. How's THAT for awesome?
I've heard you can use an SV headlight... But, I'm guessing you'd still have to use the GS mounting brackets.
I think the new SV headlights are better than the GS headlights... I'd switch it over if I had too much money. :icon_razz:

Yeah, but I'm talking about the whole bucket assembly. The housing AND the reflectors. They are both 7" headlights and look to use the same mounting tabs (the rabbit ears). If I can find one for cheap I'm going to try it.
I like how the SV light has the clear lens and diamond looking reflector. So will I really have lost 20lbs. once done? Or are you just messing around. If I do I think Il lose some weight myself. But yeah, is there any other mods I need to do to get it to look like an E??

You will have seriously lost 20lbs from the bike when you go to a naked model. All you need are the mounting brackets, "rabbit ear" mounting tabs, headlight bucket, and reflector housing.
Ok sounds good. Do you know any good sites where I can buy the mirrors, headlight assembly?

Headlight assembly you'll have to get off eBay or someone on here. For mirrors, just go with OEM. Aftermarket stuff is usually junk anyways. Unless you go with Rizoma... Mmmmmm.
Ok cool. So how much did you get your headlight for?
Ok Alpha this is your mission if you choose to accept it...... do a How to on changing the F to an E.

I used the headlight off my old GS.

DO you think its possible to take off the upper plastics and just leave the headlight there?? Would it look bad or unique?

Impossible to do. How would it be held? It's held in place by the fairing. If you remove the fairing you remove the headlight.
It looks like the headlight is seprate fron the fairing. It also looks like the bracket holding the light is not part of the fairing.

It does come in and out, yes, but the fairing is what is supported by the fairing bracket which attatches to the frame. Plus, even if you DID leave it on it would look stupid because it'd be a light sticking out 10 inches from the bike.
HAHA Yea it would look pretty crappy. I just need a headlight and some mirrors and im set I think.

No, he just had the lower fairing off to fix and paint it after a lowside. If you go through with yours, yours and mine will be the only conversions.
ALRIGHT....Ive never seen a gs500F here in El Paso much less a naked one. People seem to like fairings around here!!
maybe you could trade your F parts for someone's E parts as I'm sure someone out there would like to turn their E into an F
i didn't see it mentioned here, but he could look in the faq thread about getting the beull dual headlight setup for like 60 or 80 bucks or somehting and mount those. It would take a little fabricating, but from what I've read it's not too bad.
sorry to be a dork here. but i just saw someones FS thread and it reminded me.. i thought E's ended in '00. '01-'02 they were called soemthing else right? and in '03 there werent any made in the USA.. someone correct me if im wrong.

'89 to '00 they were called GS500Es. '01 to '02 they were GS500s. They just dropped the E, even though it still was an E model.
MMMMmmmm....some dual headlights would look nice too.

That's what I've been wanting to do, but a fellow rider (the president) in my club has the same thing, and I don't want to look like I'm copying him.

so 01 and 02 models arent E's. if they drop the E its not an E. besides its a whole new body style after '00

I'd be willing to do that. I could trade all the "e" parts for the fairings, and headlight assembly.
I have a few spares. but it's not a fair trade, I'd be making out like a bandit.. but if you dont care I dont :thumb:
PM me and I'll get em out to ya.
***hell I'll even pay freight both ways.
If you want to trade im up for it.
ahhh... its spring time and love is in the air... looks like we've got a match made in heaven
BwaHAHAHAHAHAHA......Srping??? IT feels like damn summer here with the 90degree days, and the burning my ass everytime I sit on my bike.
oh shaZam! well up here in crotchester ny is a nice 52 degrees

Oh yeah. I feel ya there man. That's one of the main reasons I pulled the fairings off. I like the wind flow through my mesh jacket. When I was behind the fairing I got no windflow through it and got a bit overly hot. Pulled the fairings off and solved THAT problem once and for all. Kinda makes it interesting in the winter though.
Yea I get more wind on my legs now but sometimes when Im riding I can feel the heat from the engine, I hope that works as a heater during winter. Yea winter is going to suck. especially if it was like this winter where I was at my girls house all day and I had to ride home in 18degree weather at 4am.....I couldnt feel my whole body so if I fell I wouldnt feel anything, I guess thats a plus!?!?!
