Title: NEED HELP FROM THE BEST!!! I'M ALL OUT OF IDEAS!!!
Post by: KYGS500E on April 23, 2006, 12:56:55 PM
Hey guys.... Here's the short of my problem...  I've defenetly posted on this before...

My left cylinder continues to carbon foul its plug while my right cylinder plug is white white white!!!

So far I have:
-Sync'ed the carbs
-rebuilt the carbs (new float needle and valve, new mains [127.5] & pilots [40], 1 washer, all new o-rings [cept the one under the slide supports] and bowl gaskets.
-Cleaned the carbs
-New intake manifolds
-New exhaust gaskets (metal piece)
-Replaced the signal generator
-Replaced the cdi box
-adjusted the float height according to kerry's test
-have the idle mixture screw turned to 2.5 turns out
-choke plungers SEEM to be sealing ok... nothing is stuck and I dont have a choke cable so its not snagged
-replaced the gas (thought maybe some freak thing with bad gas)
-Checked for pinholes or tears in the diaphragms visually... (I didn't find any by feeling and looking at them)
-lightly lubricated the slides
-no bends in the needles that go through the middle of the slides
-Replaced coils and wires
-Rebuilt head (all valves and seals)

The bike will start and smoke some (white) for a while (I guess from the lean/white right cylinder and plug).  Then after some riding (even on brand new plugs) it will begin to hesitate and "break up" and jerk when the throttle is pulled more than around 1/4 throttle.  As you can see from above I have tried nearly EVERYTHING!!!  I'm out of ideas... I need help bad!!!!  Its so nice outside.... i need to ride... my bike is a' callin' my name!  All of the above repairs/replacements have been done in response to the listed problem (except the rebuilt head).  Any ideas as to what it could be that is causing this?  Anyone else had this problem?

I need my bike back on the road!

Thanx
Austin

Could it be...

-Rectifier (i think not... prolly wouldn't start at all if this was out)???
-out of spec valve clearance???
-Fuel mixture demon???
-lack of petcock (elemenated by previous owner)???

Where do you live?  If there is another member near you maybe you could try swapping carbs with them to try to isolate the issue?

It's a bit of a long shot, but I had a similar problem on my old GS. This was caused by the return spring (?) inside the carb being unseated. I couldn't rtack the problem down and it took my mechanic some time as well.

Good luck.

Couldn't have been SE KY, could you....

I'll be headed to AR through Memphis mid-May, but 500 miles is a bit much of a detour.
