Title: I got problems with the GS..
Post by: Pingo on April 23, 2006, 01:28:30 PM
Hello guys

I have a 1998 GS500E, but its acting strange. I start it, it sounds like a small fishing boat(it goes put-put-put, you know).. If i take a ride, i feel that the pull of the engine is uneven, and it may suddnly give a jerk and pull like it should for a few seconds, and then go back to pulling in this strange way. I checked the sparkplugs, and changed them, but it didn't help. If i smell to the left cylinder sparkplug, it smells like gasoline, which might indicate that it isn't firing well. I took out the sparkplugs, and hold them against the frame while starting, and i saw sparks.. But i still can't figure out, what the problem is.. I drained the left carb cause someone told me that there might be water in the carbs. I got out around half a test tube of pure gas, no water, so i closed the drain screw.. Does anyone know what might be wrong? Im starting to freak out about it

Was the bike in storage or have you been riding it?

I've been riding it.. I took a morning ride, and later that day, i wanted to take another ride, and it just started acting like that..

You said that both sides are rcving a strong and steady spark right. Mu bike was doing the same thing when i first got it. It was hesitating real bad and i eventually ended up fouling the plug with the bad gas that was in it. Turn the bike on and let it idle and pull a spark plug wire off. When i did this with mine on the left side the bike cut off. due to the fact that the right was not running.

Well, what was wrong, then?  :) And did you fix it?

My bad, yeah that fixed it. That spark plug got fould and was not firing. can out the plug and drained that old gas and put some new stuff in and i was good to go. But if your plugs are firing i dont know what to tell you. Some one will chime in soon enough to drop some knowledge on us. Put it sounds like one side is not firing the way you say it is idling.  :dunno_white:
