Title: Where can I get frame sliders/ savers for a GSe
Post by: cyclin-scott on April 25, 2006, 06:20:18 PM
I've search the threads on frame sliders, but all I've found is threads for F's.

I'm looking for sliders for my '98 GSe. If anyone knows where I might be able to find some specific ones for my bike or can tell me what sliders will fit, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks, Scott :thumb:

My thread: http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=22851.0

Buy them at: http://www.twistedthrottle.com/trade/productview/1998/101/

Damn...more than 100 bucks for some metal tube and flat bar with holes in it?

I really need to get home and make some of these.

I think you are talking about the F models, Nick. There are not any made that will fit the F models (that I know of) because of the fairing. You can get some fairing protectors - the same ideas as frame sliders - but not as powerful and only really effective in knock-overs or real slow speed spills, nothing serious. More like little stoppers on a roller skate.

For the naked E models, I am sure the ones Alpha pointed out and has work beautifully  :thumb:

Chill.. it was a JOKE.. you got the information you needed, didn't you? If Alpha hadn't already given you the information you needed, I'd have done the search and given it to you. I was simply making a statement about the fact that a 3 second search would have given you the answer quicker than posting a new thread and waiting for a response. Upon closer inspection of your post, I realized that the reason the search didn't work for you was because you were searching the wrong terms. Case guards and frame sliders are two completely different things. So I'm sorry about that, that was my bad, assuming others know as much as I do (which is next to nothing), but you need to learn to take a joke. I posted the smileys to show I was kidding. I could have made a snarky comment like "search noob!" or a really cool animated gif that shows the search function..

That was a video for sportbikes in general, but it required cutting the fairing, a general no-no.

For the F model, yes, but for the E model case guards are quite useful, as I have proven so well in the thread I posted above.

No problem! They are really nice guards, although they are VERY expensive in comparisson to the Suzuki Factory ones (not made, but were ~$50 when they were). You can find the Suzuki ones on eBay every now and again, and they usually sell for about $70 for the set. There's one on there now, too. I'd bid on those first and then go for the SW-Motech ones if you still want. $120, but I thought they were worth it.

Yeah, they seem easy, but it's the angle and durability that's hard to get. You might have experience in that sort of thing, but it's probably more trouble than it's worth. If you COULD make some, I'd say go with the 2-pointers and sell them to people on the board. You'd make a lot of people happy, I bet.

I think that I'm quite old enough to know how to take criticism. I wouldn't get very far in my line of work if I didn't. So, thanks, but I don't need to learn a life's lesson from a forum.

Anyway, the reason that I didn't take it as an all out joke is b/c I stated in my original post that I DID a search (of this forum) and the postings that I found were all about sliders for the F's and mostly newer bikes. (ie I didn't find the information that I was looking for ...)

No, I don't know as much as you. No, I haven't been riding as long as you. And yes, I'm sure that your dad can beat up my dad ... but that's why I joined this forum. To learn from those with experience. Sorry if I came across as someone that couldn't take as joke ... obviously you don't know me, just as I dont' know you. I started this thread looking for information that I didn't find on my own (hence why I posted in the first place), not to be poked at b/c I didn't know something you already did.

Now, with that said ... I appreciate all the advice given. I've already ordered my sliders and they're on their way.

I do have experience doing this kind of thing.... and I was planning on making a 2 point version like the one that was on ebay recently. I'll make a set and a jig for future sets. I'll end up selling these for a lil more than cost of materials plus a few bucks worth of time. Hmm... I have time after next week to go home.. perhaps i'll go make a set as an example and work from there with marketing. Also I was thinking about making a sriath bar thingy. If hes not making em and the demand is there I could crank out a few of those aswell

Haha, you took my apology all wrong. I realized after my original post that you had searched the wrong thing, which was why you had to post a thread, and that's why I apologized. As for the things I bolded above, let's take em in order.

1. Like I said, I didn't realize that till after, that's why I apologized.

2A If you don't (which you probably do) you will, very soon, that's what this forum is for

2B Funny thing.. you've been riding longer than me.. I'm a nood (nood = noob, but worse, because I don't actually own a bike right now)

2C I highly doubt it.. my dad's kind of a wuss...

So I hope that clears the air, I wasn't trying to me a smart ass, just funny, and evidently, I failed..

By the way, it is possible to drink a gallon of milk in an hour. My brother did it a couple months ago, and he's got pictures to prove it.

AND THEN THERE WAS TWO!!!!

HAHA ... that was the next thing I was waiting for someone to ask about ... :thumb:

From my understanding, this has been an old military joke. With all the tough guys running around, us "wee" guys have to win somehow. If you are able to get down a gallon of milk in under an hour, you're either 1) the man and all bow before you (and you hate milk for the rest of your life) or 2) you're puking your guts out and you still hate milk for the rest of your life!

I've personally never seen anyone get it done, although I've seen tons try. Koodos to your brother ... he must be in the first group!

count me in for three sets.  and I'll front you the money to get the setup going, if necessary.

I've made three differnt types and they are all too weak. (wrong material i guess) not to mention the angles came out sharply bent and ugly.
I only have access to a square hydraulic press and I suck at using it. (plus its at work and I have to hide the fact that I'm making bike parts.)
