Title: GS500F Carbs work on 500E?
Post by: NWDave on April 29, 2006, 03:12:56 PM
Like the topic says, will GS500F carbs mate up without problems to a 500E?

I dont have a gs500 but ive worked on the engines and i dont think theyve changed them much at all up to the current model (its one of the things journalists seem to criticise - no engine revamp but i wouldnt say it was a bad thing) i cant forsee a problem, should link up fine.

What year is your E?  The reason I ask is because they changed from a single throttle cable to dual in 2001(I think), which carried over to the F.  So if you have a pre '01 E, you would need to change to a dual throttle cable, but I don't know how much work that would be... I've only read about this.

As far as I can remember, this is the only thing that would affect you putting the F carbs on your E.  The F carbs (and 01+ E carbs) are a little different in that they have 3 jets (pilot, mid, main) a opposed to the E which only has 2 (pilot and main)

Another minor consideration is the the 03+ carbs have a throttle position sensor on them. Since your E doesn't have the wiring for it, just ignore it --I think it will be OK.

If you could swing it, just change your throttle to the dual cable type.

Your E would really be unique then!  :)

Switching to a dual-cable set-up should be easy, as the throttle sleeve has receptors for two cables in the single-cable models. i.e., my '92s throttle sleeve was the same as my '04s.
