hey guys, just joined the forum, and have had a GS 500 for about 2 weeks now and am loving it!!!!
just wanted to ask have any of you guys made the bike into more of a street looking bike, and if so, can you tell me where you found the products to do so, want to get a few mods onto the bike, but dont know anywhere where i can get ahold of them
Thanks guys
Andy
What do you mean by more of a street bike a Cruiser?
i mean like. . . . um well it is more of a commuter really isn't it. . . but . . .well i guess i just mean modify it to look a bit more. . . . .um. . . . kinda hard to explain. . . but more of a naked sport stunt looking bike. . .if you know what i mean, like with a little front plate over the top of the light and new pegs and things like that. . . just where can i get new parts for it that aren't standard because thats all i can seem to find at the moment.
Thanks
Andy
I think he means streetfighter.

I'd start with one of these. Instant street cred. :thumb:
the first thing id do is replace the rear shock to a sv650 shock, which lifts the arse end up about 2 inches,(cost around $30 from ebay) then get a bandit400/ rgv250 / gsx 400 hugger (they are all the same) and do a bit of cutting and you have a rear hugger,(cost around $30 from ebay) then chop some of you rear mudguard and make it so it just holds you number plate and indicators,(cost free)
the next thing is exhaust system, ranging from a full stainless system to a slip on(cost around $300-$500) braided brake lines are always a good thing ($40-80) for both sets.
other than that, the only other things you can do to change the looks is: new indicators mirrors, headlight cowl, bandit dails (nice and shiny)
i hope these ideas help a bit good luck and have fun on the faithful gs
i like the buell turn signals, much better than stock in appearence, at least on the 500e, haven't seen them on a 500f yet.
Welcome to the board, Andy!
Congrats on your new bike! Have you considered clip-ons? I saw a streetfighter/cafe racer bike yesterday that was da' bomb!
Here are a couple of links you might find helpful (I did a search on "streetfighter"):

Nevermind the smarties who suggest 'busa stickers. :icon_rolleyes: Streetfighters are appealing not just to "stunters" or folks who think they're "cooler," but even to normal* folks like moi.... :icon_mrgreen:
*Using the term "normal" very loosely! :icon_razz:
how do you mean by clip ons?

two bros. racing did this streetfighter a while back. reported to be turbo'd but I'm not sure they did it. I've seen this bike in person and it is fabulous. lots of trick machine work, the tank is bare metal with a clear coat, custom dual center exhausts back when only ducati did it. big as f*ck.

That middle one is hot... But is it a GS? It looks to me like a 4-1 exhaust system. Maybe it's just cuz it's 6:46AM, and I haven't been to bed yet. Who knows. I really like it though. I want to do an undertail exhaust eventually (assuming I get the bike this summer, as I plan to).

Hmmm. Maybe not. German site, I could easily have misunderstood.
Upon closer inspection, I think it IS a GS, with a new engine. That's a GS frame, I'm 99% sure. So it stands to reason that he did an engine swap to some I4.. Sweet, is all I have to say!

Nope. No way that middle one is a GS500 frame... still looks nice though :)

Bingo. Probably an old Gixxer with a Duc 916/996/998/748 tail on it and a custom tank.
I'm really digging the tail on that first one.
Yea we have all met people who were looking for a "road bike" ... yea you know like a "road car" ... its for the road you know, as opposed to ones that are for ... water maybe :cookoo: :cookoo:
Cool.

yep, original late 80's gixxer 1100 (a traditional streetfighter), original tank but ducati 916 tail and the subframe looks like it was rewelded to point up more (also a traditional streetfighter thing to do).
