Title: Bans/Ban Evasions
Post by: pandy on April 29, 2006, 04:42:33 PM
Ticklemebink has been banned, as have numerous other usernames she's created and her IP. She seems to have a number of different accounts, so bans will follow as new accounts/usernames are discovered. The more accounts that are created, the longer the bans will become.

This goes for anyone evading a ban.

Please work with us, folks. Let's try to be a little more welcoming of newbies and not jump all over them with harsh posts about searching, grammar, etc. This would likely help us avoid a lot of the nastiness we've seen lately.

IS IT TRUE YOU HAVE TO DRILL INTO THE FRAME TO CONNECT THE SLIDERS? I WANT TO PUT THEM ON SO I DONT DAMAGE THE FRAME! NOT DRILL MORE HOLES IN IT!
not an unreasonable question from a total noob.

this is the first reply, to a new member's question in their first post:

uhm, some one give this guy a hand so he can slap himself.

this was followed by a reasonably helpful post, then another not so helpful, then she comes back in shooting her mouth off. Frankly I'm nto surprised she was pissed.  Tragic sure has a way welcoming new members. Honestly, I'm ashamed of the behavior of many members, many who really surprised me. Seems like mob mentality to me.

Several people have been banned over this, not just ticklemebink. and they have all tried creating additional member ID's to get back on. we're going to continue to try our best to be vigilante about the bans.

Seriously, you guys are acting like a bunch of 12 yr olds. grow up. If I wanted to hear this sort of crap I'd go to gixxer.com.

I looked through a bunch of tmb's first posts and didnt see this. point me in the right direction. the third or 4th post in the thread I quoted has her correct you telling you she's a girl. and she was a new member, unless you know something I dont.

no, I just jackassed myself.... I mis-read a post, and when I went back, I realized they were talking about something else.

Anyways, yes, I will admit, I was at fault also in the whole TMB Debacle.

This thread was not meant to become a debate on specific members or another mud-flinging thread. Since I don't want to Tard this thread, I've split and Tard'd the less-pertinent posts.

The more attention we give to disruptive threads/disruptive people, the happier they are.

Let it go, folks.  :thumb:

UPS Red or FedEx will work. When you send Choc Chip through the internet, they overcook and get too dry.

If I wasn't so busy with finals I would drill down through IP's and bann the lot of them.

Be civil people.  Just because somebody asks a dumb/comon question does not mean it's a free-for-all to torment them.

f%$k!  Can't you kids be civil?

I was gonna say this in a new thread, but I'll just throw it out here-

I wanna apologize to everyone on the forum for getting involved in that TMB spectacle. I can't say that I feel bad for any particular comments, just for saying anything at all. Period. I should have let it go, but she really bothered me and I took the bait. She emailed me to my personal account and pretty much proved everything I already thought about her, and I'm leaving it as that.

I respect everyone on this forum, and especially the moderators and people who have to help run it while dealing with this type of shaZam!. So I should have sat back and watched, rather than getting involved.

Again, I can't say that I feel bad for a certain comment, but rather just that I even commented in the first place.

So hopefully things will blow over and get back to normal. This site rules.

Dave

This is just another case of something a lot of us learned a few months back...  You'll notice that it's mostly the newer members doing it...

Yes...  We see the same threads from newbs all the time...  But, we were all newbs, so cut 'em a friggen' break.

It seems that people have been doing that more lately. If someone asks a common question, rather than just replying and telling them to search, they'll say "here's what I found with a quick search:..." and post some links to help answer the question. So while the reply may sound a little snotty, at least there's still usefullness to it.

OK I am gonna start off the bat saying that I am is guilty as anyone here.  But in our defense everyone who had originally insulted her did apologize to her and answer her question but she wouldnt let it go.  If she had in turn apologized to us and asked the question again, and this time more legibily, I am sure that she would have gotten answers that werent mean.  Then she created new usernames and totally went off on us, we tried to ignore her, but then she started PMing us and being very rude.  And then she created new usernames for the sole purpose of defending her other usernames????  All the while being rude and insulting us still.  WE tried to ignore her and change the threads to something a little more fun but still same old shaZam!.  To fully understand this debacle on needs to read all of the threads that pertain to this incident which I will provide to you shortly.  Needless to say I finally caught her iwith a new username after she had been banned in a complete lie.

I apologized to her for telling her to search as I wasn't trying to be a jerk, I was trying to be helpful.  The thing you don't realize is a lot of people who are new to forums don't understand how powerful the search tool really is, and frankly they can get a lot better info from using it compaired to starting a thread.  Anyway, her thread was up for a while and was moving on down the list being mostly ignored, so I wanted to help her out.  While I do know a little about framesliders and could have given her some info, I just figured she'd be better off searching and didn't know if she knew that was an option.  IMO she would have been short changed if she never did a search on such a broad topic and depended only on the responses by the couple of members.

When I first started with forums I didn't even think about searching and I made the same mistake and someone kindly told me to search.  You know what, I'm glad they did, now I realize how powerful of a tool it is

My point is, I see nothing wrong with telling a total noob to search as long as you do it kindly.

I think that's the issue for people. Doing it kindly rather than being a wiseass about it (again, not saying I'm innocent of that).

And it depends on how familiar with internet forums in general that person is in regards to their reaction. They may use forums a lot and expect the comments about searching, whereas someone like my mom who has never even used one would probably take offense to the responses. I have no idea though...

Even rolling in and saying, "Hello Sweetie-Pie!  There's a great feature called "Search" that will allow you to find all the answers you want" isn't really that helpful...

Most people get pissed off when you tell them to search...  Yes, that's their problem, but still... :icon_rolleyes:

If you just give them some form of an answer, THEN link to search for "more information" then they have no reason to be pissed.  :dunno_white:

Dude, I've been totally silent on this matter.

TMB sucked.  I got into the thread late as hell, after she had called everyone on this board "p*ssies", and called the GS a chick bike, posted a half nude picture of her ass, posted other questionable content, called everyone ass-holes, etc. She used this deplorable slang, horrible spelling. . . just all around difficult to deal with.

I tried to help her.  Gave her a good three pages on dog bones, lowering, seat shaving etc.  In the end, she was just too combative.  She continued to slam the bike, and slam the people here.

She is gone now, and I couldn't care less.  I agree: if you show the forum respect, it will show you respect.  Period.  I've never seen the forum attack somebody that didn't ask for it.  TMB asked for it.  She was rude to the point of being hurtful.  I know pretty much everybody was offended by her.

I know... I get it.  She was a complete "See you next Tuesday," but that's part of my point....

I replied in one of her many many many many many threads on lowering...  She still didn't get it, so I just ignored the rest of them.  None of us should be responsible for making people smarter...  But, rather than what I used to do (which was talk shaZam! and say, "SEARCH") I just leave it alone.

I'm pretty sure you did the exact same thing...

If everyone had done that, we would have had four days of :bs: ...  But, whatever...  It's all part of Forums...  :dunno_white:

I was trying to suggest that you answered her questions as well as you could... Then ignored the rest when you could handle no more.

Like I did...

I answered one...  Then realized the situation had got bad and there was nothing I could do about it...  And ignored the whole thing.

Ok so I'm a little late with all of this but I do want to add my apology for being an asshat. I live alone and was bored, the treads kept me entertained so I added to them. I'm still a noob too so I really had no useful information to add to any of it. So again I'm sorry for adding fuel to the fire on the whole TMB drama.

I didn't see anything wrong with your contributions? You actually contributed to the redirection of the energy of the board into a GOOD direction. Even the Tard Farm had become pretty dismal, and the folks posting that day (including yourself and aj) were all pulling together to ignore the bad and focus on the good. Thank you!  :kiss3: :thumb:

I didnt ban you either and it was me that went in the other night and banned further members, after the initial round of bans were done by others. Its possible that your IP is similar enough to others that it got caught in the sweep. Are you back on now or is this another ID? If you're back on then it was probably a glitch. Ok, I feel like I was a big instigator. I'm sorry for the trouble I stirred up, but I'm honestly not sorry for my posts. She had every bit of it coming. I legitimately answered her questions, I didn't stoop to her level until after she began the personal attacks, which is something I would let slide if it was just me (I don't really care what people think of me... I'm not as extreme as OMW though! ). When she started attacking the board, and I was bored.. well, bad combination. So I'm sorry to the mods, cuz I know I helped fuel a shaZam! fest for you to deal with.

There, I'm done.
