Title: So my friend showed up with a new set of tires on his SV.
Post by: Egaeus on April 30, 2006, 06:35:17 PM
He was complaining about how much it cost to mount them (an arm and a leg).  However, he said he couldn't complain too much because they were free.  Free!  I look to see what kind of tires he could get for free, and they were Metzeler Me Z1's.  I asked him how the hell he got free Metzeler's and he said "they were squid take-offs"

Turns out that this squid got some new tires, and was shining up his bike to go with them.  He was using Armor-All.  He Armor-Alled his tires and, predictably, ate it.  Sure enough, there's a 1/2" shiny stripe on either side of the tire (he hasn't scuffed it off yet).

Sometimes you really have to wonder about some people....

Armorall on the treads... classic.  I'm waiting for the Darwin Awards to profile one of those cases.  duh

So...I should let the grease I put on my tires to make them shine dry out before I ride?

My SV has the stock Dunlops on it.  Well, not the original tires, but the previous owner put the OE tires on there.  If they get wet, the front wants to shoot out from under me.
Armor All'ed Metzlers are probably safer than Dunlops.  I can't wait to get some Pilot Powers.

that reminds me of a story... this guy got a set of slotted/cross drilled rotors for his Civic and after about a week they started to show the usual small bit of surface rust.  Upset that his ride had a few specs of rust, he polished his rotors back to the nice new shine.  Well, guess what happened then?  Going out for a drive with his bling bling rotors, he quickly realized polish and brakes don't mix when he managed to get in a nice accident. All I could say to this was 'wow'.

That's too funny. After I sent my post about putting grease on the tires, I thought to myself how it would be funny if some guy polished his rotors to make them look "better". Then I figured nobody was that stupid. But, turns out at least 1 person really was...
