The first year we did this, RideorDie started the first thread for the 1st BAGS ride (Remember that? He now has a '90's CBR600) two months in advance, so in keeping with the fast pace of our valley I'm starting this thread 2 months in advance so people can plan.
This ride will be the Santa Cruz ride like we did last year (Which Bob did a great job of leading :thumb: ).
Meet at the top of Hwy9 and 35/Skyline Blvd. @ 10am, go down the seaside of 9 towards S.C., Bear Creek to Summit and eventually work our way to Old San Jose/Soquel Road. Awesome ride, probably one of the best.
Is this one newbie friendly, too, or are the fast boys and girls going to go out to play?
There's less traffic.
And, I'm sure as I get older as the date nears I'll be slower.
uhm, will this be a saturday or a sunday ride?
Either.
I just got my schedule and here are the dates available to choose from:
July 1st or 2nd
8th or 9th
15th (16th is free Doc Wong riding clinic in Redwood City)
.........(22-23rd is MotoGP @ Laguna Seca)
Or, 29th or 30th.
Was the last one when we went to Babes to watch the MotoGP race afterward?
I'll definitely try to make it this year. The first week of July is no good for me because I'll be away with the family but otherwise I don't know of anything in the pipeline
Yes! Unfortuneatley, I will be going to the Laguna Seca MotoGP this year. You wanna go (you drive, we stay at a freind's house overnight and he comes with us (he's flying in))?
wait... unfortunately you're going to the race? That should be AWESOME that you're going right?
I never bought tickets for this year, it was a bit too rich for my blood when they went on sale
July 29th gets my vote. I intend to pick scratch's brain from here 'til then, and my riding will improve enough to stay in the same zip code w/y'all! :icon_twisted:

Here's another tip that I learned recently: You don't want to slide to go fast. Loosing traction actually makes you go slower.

I think this is one tip I'm going to try my BEST to simply take your word on.... :o
I vote any day except for the 1st or 2nd. I'll be out of town for the 4th. :thumb:
Ryan
It's going to have to be 9th for me.
15th-18th is vacation.
End of month is moving the company I work for to a new location (up the street, closer to me; my commute will be 6 miles :icon_razz: ).
Anybody can organize another ride if we all can't make it together for one day. We're all busy people. And, there's always next month (and September, and October...).
August I was planning a GStwin show of prescence at Doc Wong's free riding clinic:
August 20, 2006 "Cornering Confidence - Pivot Steering" Sunday 8am-2:30pm up in RWC (Redwood City).

damn I'm gonna be out of town until the 10th :(

I'm not gonna say I'm coming, cuz I always get sick when I say that.
So..... is the date firmly set for July 9th? That's right around the corner!!!! :thumb: :icon_mrgreen:
Should we change the route to meet up with these guys?

Isn't Big Bear down in southern Cali? ??? Or did I misunderstand their route? :icon_lol:
See how Scratch got all distracted by the boob conversation in that thread?
But yeah, we'd love to have ya'll down here, but Big Bear is a good 8 hours from the south bay. :)
--and do you advertise this ride on the Bay Area Riders Forum? Do you call it BARF BAGS? Cause that cracks me up.

I will advertise B.A.GS rides on Barf next month (It's going to be @ the Doc Wong clinic, I haven't been able to go, and I'm missing it badly).
Might make a showing to my 2nd GS ride... had fun on the 1st one that was slated 'newbie friendly'. Is this one also? If not, I might have to cruise behind with Pandy. ;) So far, it looks like I'm open for Sunday, July 9th... maybe I'll give a ring to the other 3 riders that came along last time as well to see if they'll join in on the fun.
That would be great!
Sorry about the "newbie freindly", I had geared my head for Bob speed. :icon_mrgreen:
Not that I'm blaming him, I geared my head...

I thought that was pretty newb friendly :dunno_white:
We cruise until I go after some sporty bike types, then cruise again. :icon_mrgreen:
NOBODY should feel intimidated. Just ride within your comfort level. If we get spread out, we always stop to gather together again. It's all about having fun!! :thumb:

If you don't have all black leathers, bring a black armband, freinds. I'll have an extra. Left arm. I'm gonna print a picture of 'im, and bring it with me.
Ceekie and I will be there.
For you folks whose bikes are down, post up. I know of one or two folks that might be joining us in their cars, and everyone could always carpool to join in.
Y'know, we shouldn't ride if we are emotional. It's still going to be a fun ride. A fun ride for him. 8) :thumb: O0
Cheer up, he's on the big highway in the sky.
Today, we're all in shock, mourning.
We'll ride to celebrate his life, his love of riding, his love of the Baby G. I think we'll get emotional at times, but I think we'll be able to ride....the major part of the shock will have worn off some.
You're right, scratch...as long as we remember that this is a memorial ride that will celebrate his life and joy in motorcycles, we should be ok.
yes.. we shouldnt get emotional. Riding a motorcycle requires concentration, its hard to do so when you cant concentrate.
I am going to try take off from work so i can do this memorial ride in my car. No bike up here yet :(
I hope you can make it, Manjul. :thumb:
Is it four corners we're meeting at? Anyone in San Jose want to meet up? Then we could meet up with scratch wherever at a certain time so he can lead us up to the meeting place (four corners?)? My sense of direction is....erhm..... challenging.....at times.....
Is there a map you could post up, scratch? :kiss3:
Hopefully I can make the ride, but I may be out of town. If I'm here, I'm down for meeting up around San Jose and heading up to Alice's.

I'm in Santa Clara and have no idea where I am going, but I could likely find a way to meet up with you. I'm good at following :).
-k
Four corners is at the junction of hiway 9 and 35 (skyline blvd). Alice's is further north on 35 (junction 35 and 84 [Woodside]).
I'm heading north on 85 to Saratoga Rd. Then up 9 out of Saratoga to the top (35) Parking lot on left.
I'll be there by 10:00 am ;)
This is my route: http://maps.yahoo.com/dd_result?newaddr=Tasman+dr.+and+Lawrence+expressway&taddr=Skyline+Blvd.+and+Highway+9&csz=Sunnyvale%2C+CA&country=us&tcsz=Saratoga%2C+CA&tcountry=us&terr=3005
Pick a spot not too far out of the way and I'll meet anybody there.
Actually, my route is a little different in that I take the Saratoga exit off of 85, but after reveiwing my route I could take Lawrence Expwy to Saratoga and meet people at the Westgate mall near there. OR, I can meet people anywhere along the way...pick up one here, then another there, like a mountain lion picking up her cubs to take to a new den...
Allright, potential meeting place suggestions: going down Lawrence, there is a Chevron on the NW corner @ E Duane.
Starbucks on the NW corner @ El Camino.
Fast-forward to the 76 station @ the begining of 9, Saratoga, and Sunnyvale-Saratoga.
Bob - if you really wanted to have some fun - take the Summit Rd. exit, turn left onto Summit Rd., take the first right continuing on Summit/35, a left onto Bear Creek breifly, and then right onto Skyline/35. I've done it once before, last year, it's tight and twisty; and that's the only direction that I'd take it, as it's narrow.
Guys, I'd like to come along. With the bike down, however, I'd have to carpool with someone. Is anyone going to cage over? I don't have a car. :dunno_white:
scratch:
Pick a place and time that's convenient for you, and we'll be there.
Wild: I know TheGoodGuy is going to try to make it. What about you, GeeP?

True, plus I weigh ~200 lb so we might pull an automatic wheelie if I rode on the back!

One note: This route does not have us going to Alice's this month, but I could take you to Alice's after the ride (mmm...dinner...), or we could end the ride at Alice's (we'd still be taking Old San Jose/Soquel Rd. down south towards Santa Cruz, but double back, take the route that I gave to Bob, and continue to Alice's :icon_mrgreen:).
The World Cup final is at 11am! Argh. I suppose I'll tape it and join the ride, since my bike is now working and I've been itching to join a BAGS ride :thumb:

I think I'll be missing this one... and I was looking forward to it. Have fun guys and gals- keep the rubber side down and the shiny side up!
I'm interested, but don't count me in yet! I still have to see if I can re-schedule work. :icon_twisted:
Eat breakfast and fill up before you arrive, there's no restaraunts at four corners, and the hotdog stand wont be there that early. We could eat in Boulder Creek like we did last time (noonish/lunch). :icon_mrgreen:
scratch:
We still gonna meet before you head up, or did you wanna rip it up a bit on your way up w/o us n00bs along. Either way is a-ok! :kiss3: If you wanna meet, could ya' post an address or cross streets of where you're gonna be? :icon_mrgreen:
Cagers: ok...paging Manjul to the white courtesy phone.... You coming out? I owe you lunch or dinner, 'member? So I'll make it worth your while! ;) :icon_twisted: :icon_mrgreen: I think WildBlue and GeeP are also possibilities. Did I miss anyone?Come on, guys! Don't make me get out the purple whip! In loving memory of Rich.
Just got home. Wonderful ride. Sorry, I lost it up there (crying); never really had to say anything like that before. I guess I really do feel the loss.
Took it easy going back, especially on Summit, 25-30mph, and I was alone. And, I was alone with my thoughts. Kept getting distracted with thoughts of what happened to Rich.
Mixed bunch of Harleys and BMWs going the other way; many of them. Eventually, made it to 9. Then I really started tearing it up. Hit my stride, granted I wasn't going very fast, 55-60; didn't have to hang off (that's the best way I like it; just be smooth). And, stopped @ four corners again. Talked to a few guys there, and went down 9, after dispatching one car, I had 9 all to myself all the way down. After 118 miles, it only took 2 gallons, for 59mpg.
Thank you to everyone that came on the ride today. It is so much better to ride together. Rich would have liked that.
You spoke beautifully about Rich. It was a heartfelt, beautiful tribute. :kiss3:

Here here. I really felt it. Thank you both for that, Scratch and Pandy.
What a great way to say farewell to our fellow rider, Phaedrus. Scratch and Pandy, you did a wonderful job organizing this event. A good time was had by all. Good people, good conversation, good roads, good bikes. It was an honor to be a part of this special event.
Yeah I had a wonderful time, as well. So nice to finally put faces with (screen)names. And Scratch's tribute was very touching - I definitely missed Rich the whole day. My pics will be up soon. Thanks, everyone, for a great ride.
It's too bad I missed this one, I hate my internet . Sounds like it was a fun and emotional ride, glad you guys could get together for Rich! :thumb:
I'm sorry I missed this ride. I was out of town. I hope to join you all on a future ride.
