That 650R is not bad looking, for a faired bike.
As far as looks go, I prefer the naked SV first, faired SV second, and 650R next. I think they all look kinda butt though. Too bad Kawi didn't bring over that naked 650R (ER-6n) also. :dunno_white:
That was a good read. I prefer the SVS to the Ninja, Guess i just like that edgy look.
I got my first few looks at the new ninja650 over the past few weeks. It's not a bad looking bike, but IMO, if you are gonna go sporty, just do it. lose the tubular bars on the ninja for some clip ons. Same with the SV... If you are gonna give it a fairing, give it a WHOLE fairing. I chose to spend an additional 400 bux just to finish my SV's fairing. I can't for the life of me fathom why all of the japanese manufacturers think it is a good idea to slap a quarter-fairing on a bike.
As far as performance, I'll have to wait until I get a chance to demo the ninja to form an opinion on that.

Eh, I think the Ninja 650 looks tacky. The tail and seat have such a large gap between them it looks like the seat was tacked on as an afterthought. And those gigantic footpeg brackets? wtf is up with that? They look like some sort of tribal art tattoo trying to work its way into bike design. And personally, I think the exhaust is ugly. Give it dual high mounts. THAT would be hot. I do agree that they should have gone with clip ons though.
However, on the SVS, I really like the half-fairing. I'm glad that they didn't put a full fairing on for factory default. I enjoy the naked bike look, and love the look of the 2nd gen SV650S models.
I like the look of the 650R and the ergos are very comfortable . . for me at least. About fairings I'd say either put full fairings on the bikes or leave them off. Quarter fairings are just plain ugly.
Yes, I'm an "all or nothing" guy in regards to fairings. The SV-S looks like...well...the phrase "chicken head" is very fitting. The naked ones are so much sexier!

+1 Fully agree.
Not a fan of the SV650S without the full factory fairing. Looks decent with the full fairing.

I think it actually looks decent when you add a belly pan- keeps it from looking so topheavy:

Ahh, see, I don't like the transition from the upper to the lower fairing. That crease looks bad, IMO. It should be a smooth transition for it to look good, IMO. The belly pan does make it look better, though, as CasiCUA said.
I looked into getting a 650R. They look okay in black. The silver one doesn't look as good, IMO, because the material they used for the seat doesn't match the paint at all.
Also, once you sit on the 650R, you'll notice you're nearly sitting totally upright and those handle bars are too close and too high. Those bars need to go.
After I get a fender eliminator kit (Targa or Hotbodies) on my SV, I'm going to get one of those chin fairings. I think they look pretty hot.
Fully faired SV's are hot, though.
The Ninja lacks leg room... 8)

I agree about the seating position and handlebars on the 650R. I sat on one as soon as the dealer in Roanoke had one and it was to upright for me. I think that Kawasaki should have went with clip-ons but what do I know.
where can i get one of these windscreens. the sv not the ninja..
