Hey Guys, Im looking for a new bike and dont know wether to buy used (poss 98/99 model unfaired) or get new 06 faired/unfaired.
Any advice please!?
(P.S: Please take into account I live in UK and prices are extortionate!)
Cheers Dude's/Dudette's.
I'd go used, unfaired. MUCH cheaper, and a used bike will hold its resale value more than a new bike will (they depreciate like 20% when you drive em off the lot!). Especially if it's a first bike, which mine will be. Plastic = EXPENSIVE! Hope this helps.
welcome. I hope you find a GS. They kick ass.
If you are comfortable with a wrench in your hand, get a used bike. They are a breeze to work on.
Faired/unfaired ? Its your preference. IMO NAKED looks better. But if I were buying one and found a good priced faired GS I go with that.
If you're a noobie like me, I'd suggest the E (unfaired model). Fairing are pretty expensive and you'd be amazed at how dumb you can be with the bike. I've even heard of someone forgetting to put their kickstand down and getting pinned btw the bike and a gas pump. Luckily for this person, he had an E model so no fairing damage. Otherwise, I might have been screwed. :icon_lol:
Welcome!
Can't add much more except that if you tend to drop bikes like someone around here... me ...nekkid is a lot cheaper to fix! :thumb:
Welcome and everyone has covered it; One hard drop or a lowside and you are looking at $190 USD to replace one side, Trust me i know...
Welcome!
Go for used and unfaired, and check insurance vs. new and/or faired; it'll save ya in the long run, and you can always add a little windscreen to the naked ones. And, most of the little windscreens are removable for when it gets warm.
Welcome, yeah, used and naked. I am assuming that you are either coming back to biking or have recently got out of 125cc territory. I figure if you were an experienced rider you would not answer the question. For a grand, plus or minus 20% you should be able to get a decent used GS, a local dealer here has a couple in that range and look for private sales or use...
