Hello all,
I just got a newish GS500F and under the headlamp bulb (I think it's a replacement SilverStar bulb..?) there is a small sort of nipple sized dark blue lightbulb as well. I got the bike used and the previous user made a few modifications so am not sure if this is stock or aftermarket. My bike manual is in french and from what I can discern, does not mention this lightbulb either as pics in manual are of GS500 without fairings and therefore with a totally different front end.
I can't figure out:
1. what it is for
2. how to turn it on
The thing is that the little bulb is BLUE, not like "white light" blue, but blue like a christmas lightbulb.. I don't think this is necessarily legal or useful and just sort of want to know what it's deal is.
thanks!
It's the parking light bulb - for when you have your bike on "P" or whatever the heck it is on the ignition, when the lights stay on for safety.
That simple eh? :)
Mine must be burned out.. have been messing with it to no end and it just won't illuminate.
Is it supposed to be blue??
thanks !
And welcome to the board!
There was a thread about it a few weeks back but I can't find it anywhere - grrr... If you have the silverstar bulb in your headlight, then you should have a bright "parking" light as well, otherwise it will look wierd, (I know cause I forgot to replace my "nipple bulb" LOL - nice analogy btw!!!!
ANYWHO... they can come in multiple colors - don't know if you want to keep it blue - some states colored lights are illegal - anyway, I'd change it to bright-white because it's also on when your headlights are on and it might annoy you if you're driving in fog or at night...
Here's a thread (not the one I was looking for, but it works too)

Welcome!
I think it's blue because it's burned out.

Thanks for the comments - you guys are fast!
I think it's something aftermarket as opposed to a blown clear bulb - but will investigate. I will have to find a replacement for it - that fancy colour change one is interesting but I aree with Maduro M. and think bright white will be the best idea - the headlight is a SilverStar and having those in my car has made me a believer in the difference better lights can make when you need em.

when you work out which one it is lemme know okay, cause I have to change mine out too!!! :icon_mrgreen:
