Title: noob question about exhausts
Post by: andwr on May 09, 2006, 05:04:56 AM
hey guys, i want my gs sounding a bit beefier. . . .( if that is a word??) but anywho i was just wondering is it the exhaust that makes the sounds beefier, or is it something else. . . if so are there any good makes that can be easily fitted to the gs and that i could do myself with not much bike knowledge?

Thanks guys
Andy

heres the first thing i came across http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=12669.0 .  If there isn't enough in there I would just use the search function, type in exhaust and you will find a gazillion posts, not all useful, but that will give you a good idea of what you can and can't do with our little GS's.

If you tight on money you can get a flange from Sinrath ( member of this board ).  and a wileyco exhaust can.  It will sound better, and should only set you back about $150.00.

You can also take just about any slip on exhaust for any bike take it to a muffler shop and they will make mid pipe to attach the exhaust can.  ( this will be expensive ) price of new exhaust + about 175 for new mid pipe.

After added any pipe I do suggest that you do a rejet.  And if you going through the trouble of getting a pipe might as well install the K & N lunch box filter.

Hope this helps

IF U GOT A LITTLE CASH I WOULD GO WITH THE VANCE & HINES 2 INTO 1 FULL EXHAUST. DENNIS KIRK.COM HAS IT FOR $310 BUT IF YOU GO TO WWW.PARTS411.COM THEY HAVE IT FOR $256.

$175??? I don't think so... I think it should only cost $60 or so to get a midpipe made. Did a garage give you that quote?

I would put a K&N air fiter on it so that you would get more air to the engine then to the pipe.
