Title: Bike is BACK, all new paint! ....and more questions.....at end of post.........
Post by: middlem2 on May 09, 2006, 07:45:53 AM
Pictures are of my new paint job w the new side fairing decals.  Whole bike was painted and it looks great.  Ordered the black decals for the rear frame cover last night.

Picture is of the carbon mirrors.  Turns out they will work, I just had them set up wrong I guess.

My first question is (I also have an ad on the board) does anyone know who can straighten a fairing / cowling arm?  I am looking to get something set up for after this season to get it straightened.  see picture........although I think it is more obvious in person....
I also have a serious problem with something somewhere.  Yesterday while going 80mph, the bike started coughing and then just quit, like it was out of gas.  It was almost a full tank.  Again today, approx 70mph, coughing again and wants to die.  I can feel it more than I can hear it because of wind noise, but this should not be happening....

Yup, a classic GS problem.  Do a search for "high speed fuel starvation".

The bike looks amazing!

Thats nice looking. Is that a body mod with the fairings or are those what the F model looks like?

Yes, 2004 GS500F.  You can compare it to the pics after the first paint job.  Painter couldnt get the front fairing exactly to match, plus cut my decals wierd.  So he agreed to paint the whole bike for the original $400 agreed upon, I ordered new fairing decals, and I am so glad it turned out this good!  Seriously, the 500F....what a fun bike though, no matter what the color, pleasant to ride and they are good looking AND comfortable to boot!

Now about the fuel starvation...geeze!  I have a lot of reading to do.  I punched that in on search and MAN there are a lot of posts about it so apparently I am not alone!  I'll do some reading up on it tonight.  Thanks for the advice on that search.

To save you reading: The fuel starvation is a result of problems with the diaphragm in the carbs. To prevent it, anytime you will be doing extended high speeds, simply switch to "PRI" on your petcock. BAM! No more starvation.

Thank you, thank you, tips are appreciated..

Thanks!  So I can run on PRI or only before going light speed?  That is wild!  I'll still do the reading later tonite, but am curious what that is all about.  I started reading one that suggested the fuel leaving the gas tank draws a vacume that ends up (basically) keeping the gas from feeding the engine.

As for the color, there are reasons for sticking with yellow......I just love the color w the black accents, plus it is better visibility IMHO.

Wow, I just got done reading a bunch of threads on this fuel starvation problem.  Now I wonder why Suzuki didnt put that in the manual since it is being experienced by almost everyone at some point and poses a serious safety issue, especially in fast and/or heavy traffic no doubt.  Thanks for the info on that issue.

Now about the slightly bent cowling arm.  Does anyone know of a shop that straightens out bike parts, etc?  Again, will not do this till this winter, but I would like to start planning on getting this fixed.  I'm really not wanting to pay $90 for a new OEM arm.  That is a bit crazy.
