Title: HIFLOFILTRO air filter. Cheap. Where is the catch?
Post by: Jenya on May 10, 2006, 12:58:31 AM
Hello,

I have been putting together an order from mrcycles.com and noticed that HIFLO air filter is significantly cheaper than a genuine Suzuki

FILTER ASSY for 1993 Suzuki GS500E 1989-1996 13780-01D00
$26.28

HIFLOFILTRO GS500E (European Style) HIFLO AIR FLTR SUZUKI 23-3501
$15.29

Is there a catch? Do HIFLO suck? Why does it state 'Europena Style'?

I've been using HiFlow filters for years on a few of my bikes, the GS has had a new one for the past three oil changes.  Never seen the "European Style", although Suzuki did introduce a GS500 in Europe many years ago, I don't remember if it was different, or used the same, or different, oil filter.

I'll do a little research to see if that is the one for our bike.

I saw those too.  I almost ordered one a while back, but then a genuine Suzuki model came up cheap on e-bay.  I was wondering what the "euro" specification meant too.  I you end up getting one be sure to let us know how it works out.

HF-133 is the one you should be using: http://www.hiflofiltro.com/17.0.html?&L=0&sel_uid=1096

If you click Catalogue it will give you drop down boxes, for Suzuki, motorcycle and the size (400cc-599cc), click submit and it will also give a European selection of our bike (same filter BTW).

To my opinion (and research I did before buying a GS500f) bikes are actually the same. Hiflo is truly cheaper, but caused me problems same as the ones described by Aron: http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=48170.0
I suggest you read the whole topic, and then decide!  ;)

It was a nice effort though. Always nice to see a new guy using the search function.
