Title: I need help lowering!
Post by: hbaseski on May 10, 2006, 11:26:35 AM
I've been reading over the posts, but need a bit more specific information on the type of dogbones (size) and where to purchase.  Could someone please post a link or specific information?  I just brought my first bike home last night, but alas... I'm short  so I need to lower.

Thanks,
-HMS

Have you considered shaving the seat?  It should get you an inch or 2 and won't mess with handling

My butt needs padding!!  ok, so my butt has padding, but I'd actually like to know how to do the lowering on the bike itself...

I've read all those search links and also didn't find real specific info.  Seems the Muzzys links for the Kawisaki ZX6R will fit the GS500.  There's a pic of the GS link next to the Muzzys links.  Muzzys site says they will lower the ZX6 about 1 1/4" or 2 1/2" but they work on the swing arm at a different ratio and angle than the GS.  Found one place that said they would lower the GS 1 1/2" and another place said about 2".  Muzzys M1200-SL links can be ordered from their site:

I decided to order the Pingel links from Dennis Kirk since the indicate they will lower the ZX6 slightly less than the Muzzys links.  About 1" and 2" for the Pingel links on the ZX6.  It's Dennis Kirk part #588358.  I ordered them late yesterday and they will arrive tomorrow:

I'm waiting for a new chain and front sprocket to arrive and will put it all on at the same time and find out if I guessed right.

My Pingel links arrived today and turned out to be longer than expected.  I think they must be about a quarter inch longer than the Muzzys rather than a bit shorter.  I don't have any Muzzys or standard links on hand to compare with.

They have 3 holes on one end that measure 7 5/16, 7 7/8, and 8 7/16" center to center from the hole at the other end.  A post by Dana on 8-15-03 reports he put on 7 5/16" links to replace standard 7 1/16" links and bike was lowered 1 3/8" which is about what I'm looking for so I think they'll work out for me using the first hole.

I'll put them on the first of the week when the chain and sprocket arrive and see if I get about the same results as Dana did.
