Title: Bit of a flat spot.
Post by: Richmore on May 11, 2006, 08:19:35 AM
Hi all,

So I have finally got my GS to a road legal state and have finally been out for a proper ride. OH MY GOD I love this bike, it is just great, and is perfect for a first time larger bike, IMHO.  ;)

Anyway, I have noticed a flat spot in the rev range, the bike doesn't seem to want to accelerate in this range, it's from about 4500rpm to about 7000rpm, after 7000rpm at WOT the bike just takes off, I know that this is where the engine is starting to produce peak power but the difference in power is like a turbo kicking in.  :o

I was wondering if the most likely culprit would be the carbs?  :dunno_white:

The bike was stood for some time before a bought it. Also another issue which leads me to question the carburation is the fact that opening the throttle just off idle the bike stumbles and almost wants to die. Am I correct in assuming the pilots are what govern this throttle range?

Thanks folks, I know I'll get the answer here.

P.S. why do the hours at work seem to go 10 times slower when your bike is in the car park waiting for you to finish your shift  :icon_razz:

I've been reading a lot of old magazine articles that point out that exact flat spot in the exact same rev range. Sounds like it's normal, corrected by proper rejetting of the carbs.

Did you figure out those problems you were having after your rejet?

Not yet. Haven't ridden in a few days. Finals until Saturday night and then moving out of the dorms after that.

Ugh, I detest finals.
