Hi all, I have yet another fuel hose routing question. I saw the diagrams that are there already, but the diagrams are for pre-K models with slightly different petcock.
The questions I have are following:
1) On the fuel tank I have two metal tubes, one shorter one longer. The shorter one is on the left of the longer one. Clymer manual shows it the other way around. Anyone with a K2 or similar model can confirm this?
2) The two hoses that go from the frame petcock (i.e. the one that you switch while riding) to the tank are on the right side of the petcock. The hose that goes to the carbs is on the left. Out of the two tubes on the right (those that connect to the tank), which goes to reserve (i.e. the longer metal tube on the tank) the higher one or the lower one?
Incidently, what would be the behavior if frame petcock RESERVE was connected to tank petcock REGULAR? I suspect I may have this mixed up because when I ran out of gas, switching to PRI or RES didn't help much, and there was almost no gas left in the tank at that point. So say the hoses were switched, would riding RES equal to riding REG and riding REG be like riding RES with a normal config?
Thanks and enjoy the w/end
Your petcock might be backwards. It doesn't matter so long as it bolts up correctly. The RES goes to the short tube and ON goes to the longer tube.
Thanks Alpha!
Why do you say that the short tube is RES? I would've thought the long would be RES because it would be shorter inside the tank (and thus be able to drain in gas at a lower level) ? :dunno_white:
Also, which would be RES on the frame mounted tap? Post K1 models have the two tank connecting hoses on the right side. So is the one that's higher the RES, or the one that's lower?
Gracias!

Aw crap, now you're makin' me doubt myself with the tubes...
How about this. I'll take pictures tomorrow night of the proper hose routing, unless someone confirms through here first.
Makin' me doubt myself *grumble grumble*
Ha ha, thanks that will help. I wish Hayes manual was more clear on this, instead of just saying "connect the fuel hoses (A)", and of course both hoses are labelled "A"

Cool thanks for remembering to look this up :thumb:
I think I have an idea now. Like I said before I found many posts (even cool diagrams) on pre-K models, but k1+ are a bit different, so hopefully this will be useful to some other poor guy who is not careful enough (or in my case where the hoses were connected incorrectly in the first place). Thnx!
Awesome! Now I don't have to take apart my bike! :thumb:
Thanks!
