So that cop smashed my bike, and im going to get an estimate soon.
Im thinking of going naked tho! I like the look of no fairings with the dual matte black headlights. I know a few people have done the conversion (like alpha) to the single headlight.
What am i getting myself into if i want to remove my farings and put these on? Like what kind of brackets, what size, wiring problems, where to they mount etc...
http://flyncycle.com/acatalog/_Dominator__Twin_Headlights.html
The E mounts fit right onto the F forks. You're going to need brackets that slide over the fork tubes (37mm) from an older GS. You're going to need "rabbit ear" tabs that go from the tube brackets to the headlight. You mount your stock turn signals onto the turn signal mounting tabs on the tube brackets. Stick the headlight in between the rabbit ear tabs and you're done. The headlight plug works with both the E headlight and the F headlight, so no wiring problems arise. Just plug it in and go.
Including fairing removal, it took me roughly 2 or 3 hours to convert my bike.
Yeah but the stock wiring must not plug right into a dual headlight.
And i have flush mounts up front, i guess that means i would have to use the stocks again or get some more cat eyes.

The stock wiring plugs directly into the dual headlights, from what I've read.
And yeah, you'll have to use the stockers (BRIGHT! :thumb:) up front, or get some aftermarket ones (poor visibility, but look good!)
And....uh....yanno, you could always sell your headlight say....to.....ME! :icon_mrgreen:
alpha, what do you do for new mirrors? napoleans?

Per my signiture: SV mirrors. I'm using the second gen ('03+) rectangular ones because they match the lines of the bike better.

I think I'm going to follow in Alpah's footstep as well. I don't like the fairing anymore it looks nasty now.
I did a yahoo search for sv mirrors and are these the same thing just not chrome? http://www.holeshot.com/napoleon/sv650_mirrors.html

No. Those are more like the GS500s mirrors. It's the "bent stalk" type look, whereas the SVs should be the "broken stalk". Comparre the two pictures:

Yeah, please don't pay $46.95/ea for those mirrors. i got my SV mirrors (same ones Alpha has) on eBay with an SV headlight for under $40 shipped. Cheaper. Better looking. What more could you ask for? :thumb:
ahh i see. ill look on ebay then.
what do those SV mirrors thread into? do I need a specific clamp that the mirror thread into?

Look on your handlebars. There are mirror mounts on both sides. One is on the master cylinder clamp, and the other on the clutch lever.
god im such a noob.
So im still wating on the williamsport PD's insurance to give me the go ahead to get an estimate. Now i have to wait till
monday because they are closed all weekend. 3 days since they F'd up my bike and they finnaly put in a claim, but dont
call me to let me know what to do.
...anyway once i do get an estimate i can start fixing my bike with the cash they owe me. I have 3 options and im not sure what im goin with yet.
1. covert to naked and sell the old fairings, have lots of extra money left.
2. order new fairings put em on myself, have a lil extra money left
3. convert to naked, order a new fairing/mirrors so i could always change back, mabe break even? maybe spend a little.
either way it seems like its going to take forever to get the insurance loot and parts. I think i need to slap a foot peg on and go practice wheelies while the bike is broken.
NOOOOOOOOOOO not another naked one !!!!! poor poor F's are getting no love .. you guys just take there skin off ! :dunno_white: :dunno_white: :dunno_white: ohhh wellllllll ...... poor guys :flipoff:

LOL!! I had no idea either, I was just hoping someone else would ask.
Naked BETTER!!!!!
I think we're gonna have some gang wars!
Naked GSs vs Ugly GSs! :flipoff:
Why not get all the stuff you need to convert to naked and just save your old fairings? Mine are wrapped in a few layers of bubble wrap and stored in a box in my room. They are scratched and have paint loss from the previous owner, but it never hurts to keep them.
yup ugly naked gs vs's beautiful F gs !!!! :flipoff: :flipoff: :flipoff:
F's look like wanna be GSX-Rs, and fail badly at it.. IMO they are fugly.
so now im reading on here about the dominator lights, and the buellxb lights.
Will the dominators bolt right onto a gs500E light bracket? What about the buells?
Hi all,
About SV650 mirrors...
I've got DIBS on these on ebay now, I'm bidding as trwhouse there. So please, as we have informally agreed here, don't bid on these and battle me for them:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1,1&item=4640701464&sspagename=STRK%3AMEBI%3AIT
Thanks for leaving them alone,
In GS500ness,
Todd (trwhouse)

The Dominators should bolt right in, at least that's what I've read. Nice headlights, but they will run you about a hundred bucks a pop. They're from england and shipping is going to take a while and cost an arm and three eighths of a leg. The Buells require a little more work, I think. Try searching for a Buell light install or how-to and something should pop up. I know it's been done before on here.
I am thinking of going naked too. I just thing the F looks to GSX-R ish and performs, well, not so GSX-R ish. I like the black "bent" mirrors in those pics better than the chrome "broke" mirrors. What about the tabs on the frame that the fairing bolts to? Did I miss something there? :dunno_white:

Hmm. I always thought it looked too wannabe GSX-R in terms of the fairings. Eh. The "broken" mirrors, IMO, look to be a lot nicer than the bent ones because they just look more expensive to make (it's easy to bend stuff ). You could always paint the chrome too
The fairing bolts to little betal brackets that then bolt to the frame. There are holes drilled in the frame that the brackets bolt to. It's all removeable (except for the front tab that the front fairing mounts to).
Concerning mirrors,
I went to the svrider forum http://forum.svrider.com/index.php and placed a wtb add. With shipping I spent $30.

Perfect! That's right at what I paid, and close to what RVertigo paid for his (he got lucky and paid less).
Will if any of you guys dont want the tabs. Hit me with a price. Still looking for a headlight. O0
