Title: It's Gone
Post by: snoopy on May 20, 2006, 09:20:57 AM
Got up to ride to the gym this morning and the bike is gone.  Police are on the way over.   :2guns:

I live in a condo complex and I park the bike right between the wall of my garage and my car, barely enough room for the bike.  Yet they dragged the bike out into the open parking spot next to me and, (I'm guessing now) put it in a truck and took off about 6 this morning.  There are drag marks on the pavement, I guess a wheel lock isn't much good when 4 or 5 guys can just pick it up.

Any sugguestions on what to do once I either A) recover the bike or B) (hopefully not) get a new bike, will be gladly accepted, either to keep the bike safer, or what to do to the bottom dwelling scum suckers.

Once they realize they took a 500 they'll probably kick it out the back of the truck while driving by later tonight   Seriously, it sucks and thieves suck.  Worse when you get a new bike the same theives will be looking for it...to steal.  Look for a place with a garage.  Seriously!  More people have their bikes stolen from apartments/condos with open parking, thats why I kept my bikes in storage till we got into the house.

It's gone.  Accept this fact.  It will be sold in parts on ebay...probably as we speak.  Best bet is to take the insurance payoff (guess low on mileage so you get max $) and buy a gsx-r600  :thumb:  or the sexy new kawi 650... or an sv650..or...

Sorry to hear that, man. :2guns: sorry fsckers!

Did you have full coverage on the bike?  If so, that will make replacement (which is more likely) a bit easier.

I say you should chain it to a pole with a nice heavy chain and a disc (not brake, but the shape) lock.  That way they'll at least have to cut the chain or pick the lock to get your bike.  Not difficult if you have the right equipment, but a big, fat chain makes it a less appealling target.

If you think it will help, I'll watch for the VIN on ebay. I do it anyway for my Census / Sales page. PM me the VIN and I'll add it to the VIN collection of the GS Census.

Sorry to hear about your theft. Let us know your city/state so we can look out for you.

John's right about garages...Out of sight, out of mind.

The best protection... a low deductible insurance policy! At least comprehensive coverage...

If somebody wants your stuff they'll take it... I've had my car stolen once by thieves... and once by an exwife (long story)... It's just a risk we all take, if you own something you can lose it, might as well insure it..

nice. Hope for the best. Maybe they were not too-nutcase, and didn't drop it on it's side. Maybe they added cool stuff to it.. like case guards and racks and bags. Oooo how intresting would that be.. Get your bike stolen, then get it back worth more then when it was stolen.. Yea, probably not. Good luck anyway.

That's horrible that it was stolen, but awesome that the police found it and especially who was responsible. Hopefully it'll be in one piece and not damaged.
Best of Luck to you, Tony
