Been looking for a while now and after riding all '06 600s, I finally decided on the CBR600RR. Simply amazing. It's funny how you start off saying "I want something unique" but in the end it turned out to be a red Honda. :laugh: Even though it's the oldest of the 600s now, there's a reason why they outsell every other 600 on the market. Had to go with red too because it's just the nicest color on the bike and all of my cars are red. I think I made a good decision here and an even better one almost 2 years ago when I bought the GS which I don't ever plan on giving up. Now, more than ever, I'm a firm believer that these 600 super sports are just too much bike for the person just starting out. 2 years and 15k miles later, I have a second bike. :thumb:
I just picked it up last night. Been working with the dealer for some time now and they finally gave me a deal I just wasn't able to pass up. $8884.01 OTD with $955 down and the rest financed through my credit union for 5%. That was for the bike, a 5 year extended warranty, GAP coverage, and some very good discounts on gear. Like I said. Just couldn't pass it up. Full coverage is going to add another $600 to my policy per year and that doesn't suck either. I've locked it up inside my parent's house for right now until I get it on my policy. After that, I can look forward to 600 miles of break-in time and another infinite miles of riding bliss. Now for some crappy camera phone pics. I'll put up some nicer ones later.

You know, when I went to see the gixxer 600 a couple of months ago, I really liked it. This was a bike I had my eye on since they announced it last year and was definitely at the top of my list. I mean it was just a breeze to move on it and I never felt hesitant to push just a little more. The bike just kept screaming to me "Don't worry, I got ya," and it wasn't just those voices in my head. Dear jebus, when are those voices going to leave me alone?!... umm... yeah.... so... Basically no other 600 made me feel that way. It was
the one to get and I figured that out pretty quickly. The gixxer would have been second, but the fact that it's brand new with a high demand and no dealers will work with you on the price really turned me off. I also think it's ugly as sin, but looks weren't ever really a factor. This was another lesson I took with me. You really need to get out there and ride these things because you just wont know until, well, you know. When I first started shopping last year, I
never thought for a second about the RR being a possibility. I couldn't have been more wrong and I'm very happy I was. :thumb:

yeah, the RR is an easy bike to ride (fast). It makes for a good first sportbike. I felt the same way as you-so easy to ride right away it just felt like I had found home on it. Funny too as I wanted something unique as well, and also ended up with a red RR. I think red is the most appropriate color for honda's. It wasnt even a choice for me. Every other color on the honda looked wrong. I liked the black but it is impossible to keep clean and scuff free.

dont sweat the break-in. I think the manual says not to do any full throttle accelerations befre the engine is up to temp for the first 600 miles and thats pretty much it. Ride it like you are going to ride it-because if you're like me the first 600 miles are going to be your adjustment period anyway. One thing though, dont wait till 600 miles to do your first oil change. Do several in that time. The oil changes are easy too-no need to remove bodywork. I can do mine in about 15 minutes. Having the $27 Honda oil filter wrench doesnt hurt...that lets you unscrew the filter with the wrench through the headers fron the front and you can drop the filter between the headers too. I can show you how on your first time if you like. I'll be heading to Los Feliz this coming saturday to help another friend install his race bodywork and could stop by your place...
Dont park it in a carport or on the street. keep it (locked) in a garage...or it will be gone in 4-6 months.

Dude....Sweet Bike. Maybe someday I will get off my lazy butt and get me something new. I did have a GSXR1000 but it was stolen about two months ago. It was recovered but was in pretty bad shape. It was declared totaled so I just took the money and put it away till I decide on something else. I still have the GS to play with.

The dealer told me that the 600 mile service is the only service that must be done by an authorized Honda service center or else it voids your warranty. I'm guessing in between that time, it's ok then to do a couple of your own oil changes or is this something you think Honda would not recommend?

Definitely would love to get this done. Not sure of my availability for Sat yet, but I'll definitely let ya know. Send me a PM letting me know what time you're thinking. Do ya think I could just roll up to a Honda dealer and pick up the filter wrench around here or it is something I'm going to have to special order? Which oil are you using and are you using the recommended weight (10W-40)? What about the Pro Honda oil?

I'm putting full insurance on this thing today, but until then it's sitting inside my parent's house in their den. They weren't too happy about that when they came home. :thumb: When I finally do take it over to my place (tonight or tomorrow depending on the rain), it's going to sit inside of a locked garage right next to the GS. The GAP coverage I bought is a nice sense of security and I'll probably throw a Scorpio SR-i500 (http://www.scorpioalarms.com/sr-i500.aspx) alarm and Xena alarm disc lock on it. Was also thinking about looking into LoJack (have it on my cars). Thoughts? Suggestions?

Where was it stolen from and did you have any kind of security on it? How did the situation play out? Did you still owe on it? How did your insurance handle it and how much did they pay out? I have to be all interested in this stuff now. Don't want to end up in a bad situation. :thumb:

he's full of BS. so long as you have records of the maintenance (even if yo udo them yourself, your maintenance log and receipts for the materials will be sufficient). Although for peace of mind I had them do it anyway. about $160.
I dont know if the dealer would carry the oil filter wrench-strong possibility. if not it will be a special order which means a couple days.
I use standard dino oil, Pro Honda brand from dealer in standard OEM weight 10w-40. I dont intend to switch to synthetic because I change my oil so frequently. I rarely go more than 2,000 miles before an oil change. I figure its cheap insurance. I also buy the filter from them and the drain bolt crush washer all at once and its usually about $35 total with 4qts of oil.
parked in your garage I would consider the www.bikebrace.com. will seem expensive until you come out and find someone tried to steal it. then its cheap. that happened to me. dunno what time saturday....probably could be first thing (on my way to his house) or early afternoon when I'm on my way back.

I remember you recommending it before. The price isn't bad at all. That thing is seriously no joke. No idea where the hell I could mount it. Renting so I don't know if the owners would be down for me drilling big holes in the cement. That is how it mounts, right? Maybe I could do that wall instead like it shows in the pics. Too bad they don't give enough info on their site to really understand how it works and installs. :dunno_white:
I got the ok to install whatever I'd like so I'm gonna grab one. $250 + $50 shipping isn't too much, but I'd have to think there's a better deal from another retailer.
get it. good deal on the landlord letting you do it. get it in the ground before they change their mind. one word of advice: rent or borrow a hammer drill. makes drilling into concrete MUCH easier.
