Just felt like teasin' y'all before we post pics! :flipoff:
This will be where we post pics of our Hot Hands, Cool Engines, and Cold Pizza....errr....also known as Northern Cali Spring Carb-Balancing Day for May 20th! :icon_mrgreen:
Thanks to all who attended, and a special thanks to scratch....wait....we didn't get even ONE carb sync'd!! ??? Well, we would have had it not been for a couple of members whose bikes majorly malfunctioned before they could get here!
BUT...it was absolutely delightful to see GS after GS arriving... We started at 9:00AM. scratch arrived on that purple beauty that I just LOVE so much!! Then we had GeeP pull up in his big white pickup! We then had ktiger's '04 beauty, 70 cam guy's red beauty, and jbeabers hot, Hot, HOT new 675 *drool*, and of course, my dear SVS would feel left out w/o a mention here, as would my bf's FZ6...and just when I thought we'd seen all the GS's we were going to see, lumpoffire showed up with his teal beauty!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh what a glorious sight to have so many GS's show up! I MUST get ratbike in working order!!! ;) Yeesh...I hope I haven't forgotten anyone!!!!!
scratch did a once-over on ktiger's new baby. She's in VERY fine form....some minor adjustments, and she was back on the road to home. scratch's hard morning of work over :cookoo: we decided to head for the hills! w0000000t!!!   :thumb: O0
The weather that we'd fretted about SO much on Friday turned absolutely GORGEOUS yesterday! The sun was shining, the birds were singing, and 70camguy's YUMMY Yoshi(?) pipe was purring in my ear as we headed out...with scratch as our fearless leader (he's an animal!) and GeeP and his trusty Chevy pickup as our sweep! :thumb:         It was a glorious short ride. jbeaber's Triumph garners a LOT of attention (as you'll see in pics later *tease* *tease* *tease*), and scratch has totally mad skillz, and gave some amazing riding advice that really, REALLY improved my riding almost immediately. I was actually keepin' up with the big boyz on the return trip (attn newbies...I was naturally keeping up....one never TRIES to keep up....everyone (EVERYONE) rides his or her own ride...no one gets left behind...the leaders will wait for the followers until the sweep arrives). That was HELLA fun! :icon_mrgreen:
Once the serious business of the ride was concluded, we returned to homebase, and scratch got busy REALLY working! ;) Oil was changed where needed, and scratch adjusted my chain (which had never been adjusted, but HAD been inspected...er....about 2k miles ago). :kiss3: Pizza was ordered (thanks Ceekie!!!! :kiss3: :kiss3: :kiss3:), but the busy boyz ignored the food and continued to molest their bikes....I kid you not, it sounded like a porn movie was being made when scratch was draining his oil.....he'd put his hands (gloved :icon_twisted:) in the oil, feel its heat, get his hands all hot, and oooooooh...and ahhhhh.... it sounded obscene! ???   The pizza grew cold, because the boyz were completely focus'd on the task at hot hand. :P I heard a constant, "this engine's still hot!!!" Well....DUH!? We just took a ride!!     Testosterone was plentiful, but patience was lacking! :kiss3:
It was a grand day, and the last riders rode off around 7:00PM. It was a FANTASTIC day of fun, fellowship, and funshine! :icon_razz: And after fearing the rain, I'm burnt to a crisp from all the time in the funshine! :icon_lol:
Thanks again to all who attended, brought goodies, and added to the downright FUN of the day. Having that much fun should be illegal. Next time, I think the whole country (heck, the whole WORLD) should plan on attending! :icon_twisted:
P.S. I'm sure none of the boyz will disagree....more estrogen is needed!!! We need more GS ladies!!! :kiss3: :thumb:

Thanks to both Pandy and Ceek for hosting! Without a place this would definitely have not happened! I would have had to see everybody individually, as needed (valve adjustments, or when it's actually time to have something done).

What tips did Scratch give you that helped you the most? What sort of pace did you guys keep?
Do you still have the stock tires on your SV?
What was the temperature that day? What is the speed limit on the twisties you were on?
Thanks?
Quote from: Jake D on May 22, 2006, 07:54:34 AMPandy: What tips did Scratch give you that helped you the most?
Getting my tush up off of the bike in rough spots, and what to do in downhill. I don't much like riding downhill at all, but we've got quite a bit of downhill around here (since we have quite a bit of uphill!), so he chatted with me about positioning of the tush, gripping with the knees, getting the tush up off the seat, putting weight on the outside of the pegs, and on the ride back while I was putting all this stuff into practice, it was a FANTABULOUS ride!! I still consider myself quite the newbie, so any time I can follow the lines of the experienced riders and chat with the experts, I'm a happy camper, and I really like putting the advice into practice right away and seeing what changes for me. scratch is an excellent rider and a natural teacher! :kiss3:
Quote from: Jake D on May 22, 2006, 07:54:34 AMWhat sort of pace did you guys keep?
scratch was the leader, so he can answer that...for him, I think it was moderate...for me, his pace was definitely very brisk. My pace was more C- group. ;) Coming back, however, after chatting with scratch about getting the tush up off of the bike during the rough spots and balls of feet on the pegs and cornering, I kept up quite naturally with the big boys on the way back. I did wait with the co-sweep for the GeeP sweep at a turn. Otherwise, I think I would have finished out the ride with the big boys. :thumb:
Quote from: Jake D on May 22, 2006, 07:54:34 AMDo you still have the stock tires on your SV?
Yes.
Quote from: Jake D on May 22, 2006, 07:54:34 AMWhat was the temperature that day?
About 75 degrees in the sun (the sun was intense!) and fairly cool in the shade (60-65-ish?)...
Quote from: Jake D on May 22, 2006, 07:54:34 AMWhat is the speed limit on the twisties you were on?
I think between 20/25 for curvy curves to maybe 35 or 40 for a couple of straight stretches. There were only a couple of 5MPH-type hairpins. It's actually a very mellow loop; it's not for beginners, but definitely easy for the experienced riders. It was my second time on this road, and I can't wait for the third time! :icon_mrgreen:

I stuck to the Pace by Nick Ienatch. Posted speed limit for pretty much the whole road is 35mph, I hovered around 45, with a couple excursions to 50. When we got to the twisty downhill stuff, I backed down to 35-40. Going back up the road was 40ish until I caught up to a white '90's Toyota Corolla, which didn't do too bad, about 35mph ave.

But why is it that in all the pictures, Scratch is the only one working? I thought this was an opportunity to learn from a master.
Did anyone else get their hands dirty? (Pandy doesn't count as she was the photographer.)

scratch is an animal when it comes to working...he's the Energizer Bunny...he just keeps going and going and going, and it's best to stand out of his way! ;) Reminds me of Caltrans....4 workers stand around watching 1 worker doing all the work...
