Title: Should I get the free Mustang?
Post by: Onlypastrana199 on May 21, 2006, 02:44:41 PM
Ok so this guy my dad knows has a 1995 mustang 3.8. Apparently some kids tried to steal it, couldn't get into it, and so they smashed it up with a baseball bat. It needs glass, a couple fiberglass pieces, and has a ton of dents that I could probably fix. My uncle (licensed mechanic with his own shop) checked it out and its mechanically sound, it just needs cosmetic help. The guy didn't want to deal with his insurance and didn't really care about the car (his spoiled rich sons car). Now he's selling his house and his son is in jail for counterfeit money. Don't worry the guy bought the car not his son. Anyway, its free. Do I really need another project? I was hoping on selling my car but I've been dragging my feet because I don't want to be without one. This way I could sell my car, use the money to possibly fix this one and have money left over.  :dunno_white: Any ideas on where to get cheap mustang parts if I get it?

I agree with this....(because of the lack of a comma ) I looooved my 1990 Mustang Lx 5.0...And you could sell it with the idea that it's a 6 cylinder, therefore a "gas saver!!!1!!one"

it's not free, it's a FORD... you know: fix or repair daily, or found on road dead, and so forth... Fords have a nice ability of costing more to keep them running then they are worth

Yeah I think the glass would be the most expensive. I'm not so worried about the body work. My dad restored his torino and did his own body work. Most of the dents are easily repairable. Plus for the paint, I've got a cabinet full of paint and I can straight shoot, I just wasn't about to do the graphics on my bike. It shouldn't end up costing me alot which is good cause I've gotta save for my move and i just bought a new laptop. I got an insurance quote and it was cheaper than my insurance now so thats a plus too...idk I gotta wait and talk to my dad a bit more about it, I don't need another project sitting around for nothing.

Why do we never see any "clever" acronyms for Chevys?  They're just as bad.  Anybody ever had a good Cavalier?  The Beretta wasn't that long ago.  On the other hand, my dad's 94 Mazda B2300 (Ford Ranger) has 200,000 miles on it.  Only major repair was the transmission at around 160,000 because a seal went bad so it had a minor leak.  My dad didn't pay attention to the weird sounds it was making weeks before it seized.

Yes I have had 2 Cavaliers.  I am currently driving one now.  I havent had a problem with either of them *knocks on wood*.  Actually all I have ever had has been Chevy's nothing but realiable.

If it's free why not haul it off and chop it?  You could probably make a thousand off the drive train and chassis, assuming you've got the space and the motivation.

Even tho I don't really go for FORDs, you could find something wrong with ALL cars...

Get the mustang if it's sound mechanically fix it up and drive it.  I happend to like mustangs ( I have a 99 cobra convert ) excpet for regular maintanece I had had no problems.  Other had my mom's acura transmission went out after 2 years and they put a used one in as  fix never drove right after that.  Sold the PoS and bought her an Lexus.

ughhh pictures of me...

I'm going to check out the car today in more depth. So far I've figured out it needs:

  • windshield
  • drivers side glass
  • back window
  • headlights
  • taillights

Things that need to be done to the body:

  • Pop the roof back out
  • fix the dents in both doors
  • pop the trunk lid back out or buy another one
  • bondo and paint

There's not a speck of rust on this thing. Tires are brand new and it was only smashed up about two weeks ago by drunk kids. Looks to me like they jumped on the roof and trunk and then smashed the windows. I gotta hook the battery charger on it, then I can prolly drive it home as its only a dirt back road and maybe 2 miles.

Good luck with the mustang.  Hey, a free car is a free car.  If it's too expensive to fix to an acceptable level, then just part it out on ebay or whatever.  You can't really lose.

Oh, and regarding your picture, if you ever decide you're on the wrong team, you can always drop me a line.  AJ has my yahoo and AIM info.  I'm sure she wouldn't mind giving it to you.
