The threads on my tach drive were stripped when i got my bike, and i've since gotten a new(er) tach drive thanks to onefastgs500. i went to swap it out today, but wasn't sure how to remove the old one without damaging anything. i removed the screw, and did a little light prying with a screwdriver, but it didn't seem to want to come...and i definitely didn't want to go RVertigo on it, and break something.
How do i get this sucker out? i'd love to have a functional tach for the first time.
mine was stuffed when i got it as well, lesked oil all over the exhaust all the time very annoying.
im gathering your talking about the engine end? its just a matter of unscrewining the cable and pulling that out. then unscrewing the little bolt to the left of the unit. and then yanking it out. it'll be tough to get out as there is a oring in there that doesn't wanncome out easily. the tach unit is 2 peices the ccog and the housing,
very easy. have fun :icon_razz:
So, i'm not risking damaging anything if i use decent pressure to tug it out? i have enough oil leaks already...i don't need another one there.
nah there are no threads or anything to worry about, chances are if you have a leak your o ring in there is poked.
get those plyiers on there and get wriggling, it'll come out, eventually! :icon_mrgreen:
Thanks. i got it swapped out. Woohoo...now i have 2 functional gauges!
