Okay, so, I've decided that getting together all the GS's in the LA Area would be an awesome thing.
Right now, Saturday August 19th is the date.
Open to all riders, but we really wanna see alot of GS's.
It will be a ACH Ride... Leaving from the 76 Station (http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?ovi=1&zoom=7&mapdata=OE4WNszgW9waafRdwgKoY6J%2fysejgTRV2G0idiXE02D3Sw6H%2bj02C6pXiyGfsa8eRtUdP15HQMkypSfguCYurqQQDlUYxiBSN7%2fjq2KCEbFgmDjSMBgV3yJnFDMkhO2%2beiAuACeqfsnXpiuCbOJRa9KVOfv%2bjkzyYfC%2fltt6zCoBPhAiODQ%2fxLkEkb5ZQEmBTHMN5SupWevaEc0Xkmp%2bB6Vw3isTaNaiR2ZfdAIS0zGV7UGkLGVweJahM%2bLUqLWTF5MAYBgr83VG5UHUy4%2bM4srssMkygbrNGh37brmmPWm2DYVB1qokRpeZ4qLeGQTY16KyQQC9o73P2W7MwBzlS9XLl%2bXMq9l4R%2ffdaNloRQUNPFUe13QtNUxNZSSf%2f1%2fDnVBzqC%2bhy0PWIg0DlhKgC1inrsBQH%2bs8pppx%2fVdbYg3sn%2bU1XLkmoOg%2fsxWN0MtaS%2bmaOgCOwTVsNbykFOkxijTpdk2Mvhpm%2bO5gJ6j%2frAMe9ywP3QTWOmB3RplqEfza%2bzKTcKK1w7riaIvMTFIDmMpsDyW3iNkKdFqHPe%2fGUn8o3Kh5ELfOhQMgHpTHDfIQ3QwB%2b9HbBZsM1IltmFitKuD9ynHqSHBEl2mo4%2b0hKENQNv4X7r9pCB0REi07DQVb0plIFPWZ92kzg3xfD5kgRj6f%2fy0a3o%2fhgEFWhR0PHPu4xGS3Qv1tZzwurs5aHymuDwjwAdLQ6qpALrJHKy3Kveo%2fj5CrvNbxV%2bbWHOtCl%2bu6MYwZlG4miRyyB9%2fSugDbxIGGItKbBysSpW4HTmD8gw%3d%3d#map1-link) off the 210. (not the typical Shell Station at the base of ACH)
Time frame would be 9am-ish, but probably Bullshitting around till 9:30... anyone have problems with that, or any comments?
Remember, it will be in August, and Heat is a factor.
So... Who's in?

RAD. I'm in.
sweet, sweet...
I think we should maybe have an ACH run.
anyone against this?
ach would be closer to everyone I think. I'd hate to have Jen come all teh way out from riverside!
I'm up for leading a group.
For sure you should lead a group... you very accurately gauged everyone's ability last time, and made an excellent ride out of it.

Thanks! ACH is fine. Of course, Big Bear via 18/38 is my favorite ride. :icon_mrgreen:
I am THERE!! YES.
I'd say ACH. It's further from me than PCH, but I've heard PCH to be a tad on the dangerous side, not good for a first group ride  Heck, I wouldn't travel too far on it in a small car...
ACH it is.
Shell Station.
Lets Discuss Time.
9am?
might I suggest an alternate meeting place?
76 station at 8556 Foothill Blvd , sunland
http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?searchtype=address&country=US&addtohistory=&searchtab=home&formtype=address&popflag=0&latitude=&longitude=&name=&phone=&level=&cat=&address=8556+Foothill+Blvd+&city=sunland+&state=ca&zipcode=
its 9 miles up the 210 from the ACH shell station. puts us starting up from the big tujunga side-much better, less traffic, better surface, less cops.
although everyone seems to be familiar with the shell so we could meet at shell anyway and roll up to sunland like we did last time. probably best-disregard above.
9am is good. target 9:15 as a departure time, fuelled up and ready to go.
the 76 works for me.
The 76 Station sounds like a great idea... all those attributes seem beneficial.
any other comments?
ITS GOING TO BE HOT.
Ok...there's no reason i'm gonna miss this one. i'll be there!
Woah, how did we go from ACH to PCH?

I like you, but you're crazy.
so maybe I had a little slip of the finger
you ARE crazy. same ride, starting at gas station closer to big t. remember the last time we did this ride we rode up the freeway to sunland from the shell? the 76 station is on sunland blvd on the way to Big T (called Oro Vista at sunland).
same ride, not PCH. check the map link to see where the gas station is.
I'm in.....just checking it's the 76 that pablo included a link to right?
correct.
i wish August 19 was sooner.
you dont have to wait till august 19 to ride! any weekend will find you meeting several people from socalsportbikes.info at the shell around 9am...usually saturdays.

or, if you're cool with a Sunday ride, Lemme know and I'll head down from Palmdale to AFH or ACH, or whever. I'm always down for a ride.
Tuesdays are my only "Mid Day" ride day.
This'll be my first group ride... Can't .. .. wait!!

i could definitely be down for a Sunday ride...it'd have to be after lunch tho.
And if you ever wanna ride on a Tuesday, lemme know. i work in Malibu...so there's some decent canyons real close to my job (so i hear). i get an hour for lunch, and could easily come in an hour early, and even stay an hour later. So a 3 hour mid-day ride any given Tuesday is easily doable.
just let me know what sunday is good for you.
ACH is great on weekends, I'm leary of anything involving PCH on a weekend, because of the "Tourist" factor.
Will do. And let me know if you ever want to go for a Tuesday ride.
ei...just post up on sunday rides....ill try to be there!....weekday riding is fun as well....azusa/gmr was all mine couple a mondays ago.... :)
bump.
Damn I hope I can make this....
I wouldn't worry about missing it too much.
There's plenty of time to plan in advance, and even if you do miss it, I usually post up whatever weekly ride I'm doing in the LA area.
hi im new. not to hi-jack this thread but i want to make it to this event but my bike wont start. ive been trying to get it to run for the past week. the carb was cleaned 1-2000 miles ago, as was the oil changed. i just put in new spark plugs and new air filter today. the bike was running fine before i switched the gas valve off for 5 days. when i tried to start it up again it wont idle without me blipping the throttle.
is there anyone in the la area that has enough mechanical knowledge on this motor or motorcycles in general that can help me out? i felt like ive done everything and cant think of anything else thats wrong. i just bougth the bike a month ago and moved back to LA for the summer and dont know anyone that rides or know of any mechanics. i have this thread up that ive been updating with my work http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=27357.0
if someone can help me, please PM me or email me at marlopez@gmail.com thanks a lot

uhm, some are slower than others I guess....
Not all of us are born knowing everything.
I suggest we memorialize Phaedrus on this ride.
i think that's a great idea, Pablo. What did you have in mind? What exactly does a memorial ride consist of?

We keep him in our thoughts. We stop somewhere we think he would have liked, and we take a moment in silence to honor his memory.
Quote from: pandy on July 01, 2006, 10:00:19 PM
Today, we're all in shock, mourning.
We'll ride to celebrate his life, his love of riding, his love of the Baby G. I think we'll get emotional at times, but I think we'll be able to ride....the major part of the shock will have worn off some.
You're right, scratch...as long as we remember that this is a memorial ride that will celebrate his life and joy in motorcycles, we should be ok.
so you know that would be nice if you did that for him as his brithday is on the 20th
Welcome, TazZ, you're a good brother.
TazZ:
Yes, welcome, and thank you for posting!!!! :kiss3:
I will figure this out in time but have a good ride All and be safe
I realize that. I dont mind if the group wants to ride on the 20th instead but I can't make the 20th. As a rule, I can't ride on sundays because I commit my sundays to family time, as does my wife, without exception.
to pantablo you all ride when you have it set up i think it is nice of you all I was just saying it was the day before his brithday so it fine and cool as Gator would not care what day a ride was as long as you rode and have fun at it thanks again to all
I'll be there on the 19th...the crest has been beautiful this past two months...been up there twice...

you all know him as Phaedrus I just called him Gator
Oh nice. I actually caught one of these posts before the ride actually happened this time. Been trying to get with you other GSers for an ACH ride, especially since I'm up there pretty much every Saturday morning. It's a shame it has to be a memorial ride, but I'll definitely be there. Was up there yesterday for my own personal bday ride and the weather was just fine.

You will all be with us at the Memorial Dedication. I just noticed your LA ride is on the "Tentative" date for the Memorial Plaque & Dedication ride. I think that's very cool. We'll be on different sides of the US but all riding together the same day for Rich. :thumb:
This is great. :thumb:
-Anti 8)
indeed!
Just a reminder, this event is coming up.
Just out of curiosity...what time could i plan on being headed home?
i just found out that my parents are coming to visit that weekend (it was the only one they could out of the whole year). i don't want to miss the ride - i've been looking forward to it all summer...but i also don't want to spend the whole day away the one weekend my parents are in town. This sucks...
well, you ride your own ride, and can head back anytime you want.
This would probably be wrapped up by 1 or 2 in the afternoon at the latest.
I was planning on going, but now I don't know if I'll have that day off... I'll find out as it gets closer, though.
tell your work you are going to be sick that day.
If the weather stays like it has been up here this last week, it should be a pretty nice ride and not completely hot like originally thought. I'll keep my fingers crossed. :thumb:
Unfortunately my job is a bit more strict about sick days and what not... I'm also in training for a promotion, so I'd rather not tick off the bosses. I average a 60 hour week, but I don't always work Saturdays. I'll see if I can get away with not working that Saturday.
HI

to GSTwins
God Bless each and every one of you for making our time of sorrow, Better by all the rides .And flowers you have done it means alot to me and my family . He enjoyed his life with you all . And was happy to know each and everyone of you

Just a reminder here for those of us that ride the Crest a lot...this is meeting at the Sunland 76 station, not the gas station at the bottom of ACH.... :thumb:
My family and I would like to thank everyone going on the LA Phaedrus memorial ride. As LadyJules31 says "I think that's very cool. We'll be on different sides of the US but all riding together the same day for Rich" ... I also think it is absolutely amazing! Please take lots of pictures to post.
Ride safe! :thumb:

One day...
So, I'm getting a little lost in the post guys. I get we're meeting at the 76 station in Sunland (http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?searchtype=address&country=US&addtohistory=&searchtab=home&formtype=address&popflag=0&latitude=&longitude=&name=&phone=&level=&cat=&address=8556+Foothill+Blvd+&city=sunland+&state=ca&zipcode=) at 9am and that's it. What's the route and destination? Maybe, TragicImage, you can edit the first post to list all of the correct info so we don't have to hunt for it.
Planning on being there and probably bringing a friend. Wont be bringing the GS because it scared me last time in ACH (caught the center stand). Even if I wanted to, it's simply out of commission right now. :thumb:
I don't know about heat being a factor now. It's been absolutely freezing already riding into work every morning out of Altadena at 8am. Probably had a lot to due with the fact that was using my summer textile so thank jebus I got a new leather jacket this week. :icon_lol:
BTW, first official group ride, period, so go easy on me. :thumb:

Matching Dianese suits....
all those gs500's lined up must have caused a stir up at Newcombs. They look great all lined up like that. Who had the matching Dianese suits?
Lauren and Jen.... completely unplanned.
Lauren is ArkhamEscapee on SoCalSportbikes
wow, what a coincidence...just noticed charlies pictures. nice.
yea... Charlie was taking alot of pictures, and so was Jen.
She headed back to Riverside via Wrightwood from the tree... and I haven't heard from her, which is kinda shocking.... hope everything is well....
You Pablo, were the topic of conversation among several people today... pretty funny, wish you woulda been there.
The not-so-scenic meet up spot. Meeting spots were at a premium today, as the weather was beatiful and bikes were out in force.

Pics of Rich got taped to GStwinners bikes, so he could ride along with us.

Stopped to chill at Newcomb's Ranch, the local biker hangout. I'm a slacker and didnt take any pics of the other sweet rides we saw there, including an MV Agusta Brutale, a Ducati 999, a Triumph 675, a Bernelli Toronado, many BMWs, and even a bright orange Lotus Elise rolled in.

I'm alive and well. The ride back to Wrighwood is tricky and awesome.
Pablo- most of the conversations about you can be summed up as: "Damn, he's fast."

haha...probably better that I wasnt there so you all could talk about me...All I can say is, "Damn, he's fast." is better than "Damn, he's stupid." Wish I could have ridden but my friends only had saturday morning here. I'll be up there tomorrow morning though, same time/place.
Awesome ride...great meeting everyone!! When are we gonna do it again :thumb:

Great pics! Thanks so much for sharing them!! :thumb:
I am sooo upset I missed this. Last Friday night (and Sat morning) involved consuming way too much alcohol, being kicked out of a bar, getting naked in the streets, and finally passing out around 4am with a lot of miscellaneous mischief in between. Woke up around 11am, but I pretty much stayed home the rest of the weekend completely sick out of my mind. Looks like you guys had a lot of fun. Been on this board a year and a half and have still not ridden with you guys. When I go up there this weekend (hopefully), I'll keep Phaedrus in my thoughts. :thumb:
Oh, man... Everybody did something that Saturday it seems... I got home from work at 6:30am, and went back in at 4pm... Then got back home at midnight. Woo...
