So...met up with some biker friends this morning. One Ural owner was describing a problem he's been having: Bike runs fine until he shuts it down. Goes to start it up 30 minutes later, bike sputters and misses and generally runs like shiat. Next day, bike runs fine.
Me and a Harley rider said the exact same thing: "Vapor lock!" We checked his bike...and a good 8 inches of the fuel line is laying right across the top of the engine! It was too hot to keep a finger there for more than 3 seconds. Can't see any way to "suspend" the fuel line up with zip ties or anything, so we figure we need to wrap something around the fuel line. I have a good picture in my mind of what the perfect stuff would be, but don't know the name of it. It would have to be nylon or high temp plastic...tube shaped, with a slit down one side so it would just kinda snap over the fuel line, but would get the fuel line off the top of the engine.
What the heck product am I looking for? And please tell me it doesn't come in 50-foot rolls.
As a temporary fix, I was going to suggest a piece of cardboard or thick paper and zippy ties.
We also came up with a theory: Since Urals are made in Siberia, maybe they intentionally route the fuel line over the engine, so when the temperature reaches way below freezing, the engine heat would actually heat up the gas in the line a little bit? I would think ice-cold gasoline/petrol could be a problem in Siberia. Or maybe we just drank too much coffee at breakfast? :cookoo:

how about wrapping some aluminum foil????
but yeah you can get those plastic covers for tubes in 3-4 feet length.. or lesser.
Foil would only help with radiant heat...sounds like we're talking about conduction through direct contact of materials. Something strongly insulative would be necessary to help absorb/dissipate the heat before it conducts into the fuel line/fuel
