Title: Engine side thing that says "Suzuki"...
Post by: Queso on May 29, 2006, 10:25:12 PM
Today I noticed it was missing, must've fallen off on the freeway or something... Is that important, should I replace it? I noticed there is a bolt exposed in a cutout hole now...

Also, while going down the freeway, my bike started cuttin out, low fuel like, so I managed to put it to RES at about 50, and it picked right back up, low gas, right? I exited shortly to fill up, but could only fit 1.5 gallons in! I hope to take care of that issue next weekend when I do that hardcore tune-up I keep meaning to do (a clymers will make that work easier!)...

So, lots of fun with this bike, I'm diggin it.

Check the CRANKCASE COVER section for each vendor on the Parts Fiche Catalogs (http://www.bbburma.net/Documents/GS500_Parts_Fiche_1.html) page.  Looks like it runs between 9 and 10 dollars.

I scratched that off in a lowsider some months ago. Have the hole covered with duct tape since then, redneck-style. No problems whatoever.

The freeway problem: Fuel starvation. Pretty common on the GS; the petcock has some issues. It's strange that RES helped, though, normally you are forced to switch to PRIme. Check the fuel cutoff valve under the tank; it may not be completely open. Or the ON fuel line is somewhat pinched. Most probably just the petcock bein prissy, though.

9 or 10 bucks sounds doable. I like the way it looks, anyway. As for the fuel issue, well... I'll be taking care of that soon, I want to do a major cleaning. I got a bottle of "Redline" fuel injector/carb cleaner (cycle gear didn't have that JP1 stuff) I intend to use soon, too.
