Hi All.
I've got an old Givi Wingrack and some panniers.
Now all I need to do is mount it.
Anyone seen this done? pictures would be useful.
I have some ides on mounting it but I'd like to see if anyone has come up with anything cunning.
givi usa only shows top case mnt, good luck
Yeah I saw that the official kits are only for the top box mount.
I've got 3 metres of 30mm x 6mm steel flatbar, a hacksaw, a pilar drill and a mate with a MIG welder.
looks like it's time to get inventive.
My brother and I (well, mostly my brother) did something similar to mount a set of Nonfango bags. (See the Preparations Day (http://www.bbburma.net/Trips/Canada_2002/Preparations.html) page from our 2002 trip to British Columbia.)
We had the advantage of a Five*Stars tailrack to anchor our homemade contraption to, but I'll bet you can come up with something! :thumb:
Shouldn't the wingrack mounting be somewhat similar to the topcase mounting?
All the pics I have of the top mount suck... :icon_confused: I can see about getting some better ones if you need 'em.
Kerry:
Yup that looks like the sort of thing I'm looking into.
I *MIGHT* have access to welding gear.
If not it's gonna have to be all bolt together.
Good to see you again BTW.
RVertigo:
I've seen the top case mount.
Boy is it ugly.
This may not do anything for ya, but just in case....
... check out the diagrams about halfway down my old Riderhaus (http://www.bbburma.net/Riderhaus.htm) page.
[See where we got the idea for the welded brace?]
Thanks for these.

My plan was to use
1) The grab rail bolts (2 & 3 in the top picture) to secure the top rear of the rack.
2) A cross brace (like E in the lower picture) to secure the lower rear of the rack.
3) a 'Z' shaped bracket to the bolts that hold the top edge of the side panels onto the GS to secure the top front of the rack.
I wasn't sure about the front lower corner of the rack. A bracket to bolt 5 (on the lower picture) looks good.
I was originally thinking that if I had a loop from one pillion peg round the rear and to the other pillion peg I could ose that to bolt both the lower corners to.
That would look kinda ugly though, especially whn the rack is empty.
Kerry, what is the rack for the side cases in the pic below? The top rack looks like the Five Star, NLA of course.

Givi offers a universal Wing Rack but lists no details of it. Looks like the only way is to add tubular mounts from another bike and modify it to work with the Monorack. :dunno_white:
That rack came with the used
Nonfango bags that we were trying to mount. Before I bought the bags and mounting hardware, the seller told me that he had used the setup on his GS500. After everything arrived and I couldn't figure out how in the world to fit it to the bike, I contacted him again.
"Huh? No, I don't think I ever used that setup on my GS500. I did use it on my [whatever], though."
There I was with 2 bikes, a brother with a plane ticket, and only one set of usable luggage. Like it says on my trip page, we burned 2+ days of riding time fabricating the mounting hardware.
BTW, the tubular piece in that photo (which looks like it will bolt into the grab rail) never got used. In the end, the U-shaped racks were attached to the Five*Stars rack and the frame by nothing but those 4 pieces of mild steel bar from Lowe's. (And some bolts, washers, and nuts, of course.)
red_phil: Speaking of washers ... parts 7a, 9a, and 10a are of the "Nylock" type that won't vibrate off.
Looking at the backend of a Bandit, I wonder if the Bandit racks would fit with a little modification. The tail section is close in layout but I'm not sure of size since I'm only going by pictures.
