Title: OMG, I'm about to ask a petcock question!?!
Post by: Egaeus on May 31, 2006, 10:50:43 AM
Yeah, so I've been searching, and I haven't found as many problems with fuel starvation with the F bikes as with the E bikes.  I noticed while at a local stealer that there was a very significant difference between the new petcocks and my 99.  Are the newer petcocks better, or is this just due to fewer people on the board having the later bikes?  If they are better, will the new petcock fit the older bikes?  I know that there are two bolts holding it on, but that's easy to replicate as long as the hole spacing is the same.  Also, I'm worried about the new petcock clearing the airbox.  Of course, this doesn't matter if they suck equally.  I just need a new frame-mounted petcock since mine's leaking gas down the side of the bike and making a mess.

I couldn't say which is better; I only have experience with the older style too.

As for fitment, all I know is what I see in the photos in this post (http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=17821.msg160172#msg160172).  The placement is a little different, and the new style seems to take 2 bolts instead of one ... but I dunno.

Hmmm.... looking at that, it seems that the airbox is a little different.  Not sure that the new petcock would fit in the spot for the old one without a new airbox.  Maybe it's time for pods and another rejet?!?! :icon_twisted:

If the hole spacing is the same, the two bolts wouldn't be a problem.  It's hard to tell about that though.

Well, the parts fiche show different part numbers (between 1999 and 2001) for the Air Cleaner Assembly, but that number seems to encompass everything attached to the box (for $90+!).  The box looks the same in the diagrams, and it could actually be the same, too.  Changing any one of the "assembly" parts probably results in a different overall part number.

This turned out to be true for someone who was comparing forks between particular years a couple years ago.  He went ahead and got the questionable fork (not the whole assembly) and his older parts all fit on fine.  Not a route I would recommend across the board, of course....

Anyway, it's too bad the fiche don't have a part number for just the airbox itself.
