Title: How well exactly should a jacket fit?
Post by: dracflamloc on May 31, 2006, 01:05:57 PM
I bought one of these: http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/item.aspx?style=11917&department=112&division=1#

I got the small because I'm a pretty thin guy though I have fairly broad shoulders. The arm length is perfect for me even in riding position, but I'm trying to get a feel for the overall body fit. Should it be fairly form fitting, but not too snug where your movements are inhibited, or should it be fairly loose around the chest and stomache? How far down your body does the jacket usually go? Right to your belt buckle, a little longer? Thanks!

Not an expert but im guessing that leathers shoud FIT. If you do have an accident, you dont want those vital points like the backplate, knee guards, and elbow pads and such to shift because it doenst fit properly. That could bring about some unwanted results.

Gear should be snug so it doesn't move around a whole lot in a crash, but it shouldn't be annoyingly tight or uncomfortable.  You want the armor to stay in place and you don't want it to slide up over your head (or similar)...

The length of the jacket depends on the style...  That one looks like a half-jacket, so...  Around your belt.

One thing they say on the page:  "Jacket sizes run 1-2 sizes smaller than normal"  I'd check out the size chart and make sure it'll fit ya'.

Yea I already have it. It does seem to fit well and snug but comfy and the arm lengths are perfect. Looks like I made a lucky guess!

Arm length is a tough one for me...  I don't really have monkey arm, but most jackets are either too big or the arms are too short...

I figured that's what gauntlet gloves are for.  ;)

Longer arms are better in a jacket.  The further your gloves fit over it the better.  As far as the general fit, it should fit snug enough that you could fit a sweater under it.  Other than that, it should be only loose enough to allow you to breath easily.

I bought my first jacket at a dealer where there were bikes handy to sit on.  I was glad I did.  The jacket I thought fit me rode up around my ears when I sat on a bike.  I went down a size and all was good.

You don't want a loose jacket because it'll flap around in the wind, and possibly the armor'll move on you.

Take an extra shirt when you try it on, then you'll know how it'll fit in the spring and fall too.

Just a guess, but shouldn't clothing be tight enough to cut circulation from the gonads???
