Title: How to (and what is it to) balance carbs...
Post by: vsboxerboy on May 31, 2006, 03:25:23 PM
I've been trying to search on how to do this but have come up pretty empty handed.

From what I've gathered I'd either need to get one of those fancy carb balancing dealies that kinda suck, or build the $5 one that is listed in the FAQ section:

The FAQ does't, however, say how to balance the carbs except something about the screw between the carbs.  I'm assuming this isnt the screw you use to adjust the idle, so I just wanted to know what hoses you connect where, what to look for on the meter, and what to adjust to correct the balance.

Thanks!

The hoses from the balancer hook up to the spigots on top of each carb; you have to remove the rubber caps first; usually the left hose is for the No.1 cylinder and the right is for No.2, or their respective carbs...

The screw is located on top of the throttle linkage in between the carbs, it is reachable with the tank propped up in the back by a 4x4 on top of the battery, using a small flathead screwdriver (about 4-5" in length).  Turn clockwise to raise the amount of vacuum drawn in the No.1 cyl, counter-clockwise to increase it for No.2.

It'd be really cool if we could get all the 5 dollar carb synch info condensed as well as with a bit more detail. I've been trying to find some help on carb tuning as well with little luck. Scratch's post was certainly a major help!
