so i reformated my gf's computer and now the screen is a bit stretched horizontally. her laptop is wider than a normal screen and its set at 1024x768. what am i missing here?
update the driver??
do i have to get the driver for the video card?
yup
You should also set the Monitor to the exact model... Windows has a list of supported resolutions... So, if it's set to "Default" or some other model, it won't have the right list.
well how do u choose a monitor for a laptop?

Oh... Laptop...
Sorry... It's against my religion to comment or help with anything involving laptops.
Please ignore my previous suggestion.
lol i hate laptops myself. this one is the gf's.
Did you fix this yet?
Did you update the video driver as suggested?
I am having a hard time visualizing it. If you didn't fix it yet, will you post a screenshot?
well all the dell cds that came with the computer mysteriously disappeared. what are the chances that dell will give us new cds?
You don't need them, really. As long as you got the OS loaded. Just go to:
support.dell.com
And browse through and download the drivers for the system. I do it all the time.

Slim.
They'll sell you CD's tho... THat is if they still have the images archived
Honestly as a dell employee...I never use the OEM disks...I download from the website and burn my own cds/use a usb key
dito on the download them from dell and make your own cd / use USB key. I never use the cds, ever, i always go and dpwnload them from dell. What you need is the video driver :thumb:
Download the video drivers for that exact laptop from the manufacturer (dell, hp, toshiba) You'll find they have the best and right drivers.
Linux... yeah.
