If you ever want to know how far you can go with 3-1/2 gallons of diesel in your tank, the answer is over 7 miles. Within 1/2 mile the bike will start running like crap, but will idle just fine. IF you put the choke on all the way, it will idle at around 5,000, and you can go around 55 MPH. Don't ask me how I know this.
Did someone fill their tank with diesel? :cookoo:
let me guess you didnt look at the pump and put diesel in your bike lol
After 7 miles the bike implodes and throws the rider 100 yards?
Ahh, now we know. ;) How about next time a 50/50 mix? Try that one out for us, please.
Tried that once (I didn't put it in, but a full-o-schnapps-friend did) with an 84 Corrolla. He got 2 gal in before we topped it off with 92 reg gas 2.5 hrs into a 5 hr trip to Austin TX. It ran fine :thumb: just keep adding reg to the tank :icon_mrgreen:
You may want to drain a tad out.
I did the
opposite once.
I was about 22, getting paid by the hour to mix and deliver barrels of "miracle" liquid fertilizer for a neighboring friend/businessman.
Off I went one day, with instructions to fill his truck if I needed to. About 50 miles later I pulled into a gas station and filled up the nearly empty tank, then drove the last 5 miles or so to the rondezvous point with the customer.
About 1 mile from my destination, the truck started acting funny. That's when I saw the
Fill only with diesel[/list]
notice on the dash. :o :o I had just put in gallons and gallons of
Unleaded! :o :o
I made it to the rondezvous OK, but then I couldn't get the truck to start. I got a ride back into town from the customer and called my Dad. About an hour later he showed up with our station wagon and a long tow chain. I steered the truck home at the tail end of the chain, and had to do all the braking for both vehicles (with non-powered power brakes), which was kinda tricky to get the hang of.
Luckily for me, my Dad is a good mechanic. After siphoning the fuel from the tank he knew what else to do to get the system as "clean" as possible before pumping in enough diesel to get to the closest gas station. Whew!
Welcome, hwindle!
Thanks for the info...er, warning. :thumb:
Bwahaha.. read a post on some forum about a guy whose wife pumped 12 gallons of diesel into their car... which made me laugh, cuz diesel (at least at every place I've ever been to) is a different nozzle, which won't even fit in the filler neck of most cars..
I wonder how you get the diesel out of the engine? Do you continue trying to start it with say...ether until it eventually runs right? Wouldnt diesel harm the engine internally?
nah deisel wont hurt the engine, you just have to drain the tank ect , and then pump thriugh new fuel, clean the spark plugs and your away. i learnt the hard way also :thumb:
Yeah diesel won't do much to a gasoline engine, but the other way around = KABOOOOM
Cause Gasoline is way easier to ignite, and diesel engines are "Compression Ignition" That means they squeeze it hella hard and it blows up LOL.
So what happens with gasoline in a diesel vehicle is that it blows up before it's supposed to, Kinda like when you put regular into a car pushing 20psi of boost. Tink tink tink BOOOOMMMMMMM.
Diesel just won't burn.
diesel wont hert it... some guys when they have water in the oil of four wheelers they take the oil out put diesel in and let it run a min or so dont remember how long...... but they dont rev just idle then put oil back in..... with oil it takes alot of time to do and a lot of oil change lol
