Title: Severe RPM drop at take off....
Post by: TadMC on June 04, 2006, 02:48:34 PM
... Ok, my bike is alll stock, and havent modded tickered or screwed with anything on the bike.

But lately from a stop Im getting a really strong RPM drop in first gear. The way I counter that is, I kinda bounce the clutch (I dont know how else to describe it) and that keeps the RPM's up and the accelaration.  Is this a bad thing to do firstly, and is there a way to fix that with out tapping the clutch

also heres a crude diagram of what im experiencing

This is a normal take off

Our bike doesn't have enough power or torque to have a good smooth takeoff from such low RPMs. You do need to rev it up to at least 4k or so before slipping the cluch out and taking off. That's is typical of all high-rpm engines usually.

Tapping the clutch, also known as slipping the clutch, feathering the clutch. Find a nice bit of empty road and pracitce using your clutch, you would be amazed at the amount of crazy acceleration you can get even with a tiny engine just by slipping the clutch.

Too much clutch, not enough throttle.

Tapping the clutch is like double clutching, which is what you're doing.  It's okay, doesn't hurt anything.  It removes the load from the engine and allows the engine to spin up more.
