Title: First Post, Price Question
Post by: El Bandito on June 05, 2006, 12:17:26 AM
So I've gotten really interested in bikes lately, and I would like to get one, and from a lot of reading here and on the net in general, I've decided the GS500 is an excellent first bike, and won't get boring fast like say a Ninja 250. I will be taking the MSF class this summer, and have been looking on craigslist about 5 times a day checking for a GS500. I spotted one today, and would like to know if $2900 is good for a bike in "great" shape with 8400 miles (I know it is hard to tell without looking at it firsthand). Here is the link...http://seattle.craigslist.org/mcy/168006949.html

Well I hope to join the motorcycling community soon, and thanks for the input!

Hey,
2900 for an 02 with 8K seems a bit high in my opinion. I got my 93' w/ 11k in 2002 for 1500. Granted mine was 6 yrs older but ask yurself is 6 yrs worth 1400 dollars? I've seen some fully faired 04+ GS500f's go for around 3.5k with similar mileage. I'd say keep shopping I'd offer 2500 at most. Good luck!

The bike I just bought (picking it up Sunday!) is an almost identical '02, with less than 4K miles.. the owner was looking for $2500, I'm picking it up for $2200.... so yes, IMHO that is too high. However, if you could talk him down to around 22, 22.5, I think it would be worth it. Like someone else said (Scratch? I'm too lazy to scroll down and see)... markets vary by area, so check around the market in your area.. that could be average.. or even a really good deal!

the miles dont really matter to much, the bike has atleast another 30'000 left in it, id try and talk him down, but not because of the mileage, just because you can. get it mate you wont regret it. :thumb:

Here in washington DC bikes always seem to be more expensive.  I just payed $2600 for an 01 with 6500 miles on it through bidding on ebay.  Is three hundred dollars worth one year newer.. depends on condition, but if you love it don't let it get away for a few hundred.. it may take you awhile to find another one!
