Title: bike wont run without choke
Post by: solosociety on June 05, 2006, 01:45:00 AM
Ok i joined the airforce and my bike sat for 2 years before i could get back to it. When i finally picked it up i drained all the old gas changed the oil put new plugs in it and now it will only run with full choke on. I turn the choke off and it dies. The exhaust was packed with a rats nest to i toke off the canister cut it open and pulled all the crap out but i dont have access to a welder. i was wondering if this would have anything to do with it not running or maybe if i need to go further into it.

2 years? Carbs are varnished. Pull the carbs, clean em, put em back on. Should help a lot.

I had the same problem with my GS when I bought it, I knew exactly what it was by the previous owner didn't haha, he dropped the price $200 because he thought I'd have to take it to a mechanic  Just rip them carbs out, clean them very well, every nook and cranny. On mine I used some marine cleaner and lubricant used for boats that my dad had. After a good cleaning they worked like a charm! All I had to do was turn the idle knob back down and I was set, a perfectly running GS aside from some minor knocking.. haha.
