Title: Is the CURVED fender underneath the seat really necessary??????
Post by: Chris2P on June 06, 2006, 07:07:32 AM
There is a lot of potential for storage space under the seat.

If I removed the curved portion of the fender under the seat and put a flat piece in that is flush with the bottom of the top frame would there
be enough clearance for the tire and it's travel?

I remember someone made a flat undertail and had some slight tire scuffing.

Maybe if you put a way stiffer shock on and kept it from scuffing you could, but I know that when even I sit on it  stock (100lbs) that there would not be enough clearance on the road...

I'm going to try duct-taping some carboard underneath and see how much potential clearance there is (if it doesnt blow off:-))

How does the bike ride with the 650 spring?  Did it change the handling at all?

maybe you would be happier using some zip ties or something to fasten the cardboard.

Duct tape does some horrible things to painted surfaces.

Hahah. Cake mix. Cool.

Biggest thing I ever crammed in there was a graphic novel, but the seat wouldn't go down, so I stuffed it under my jacket and cinched the bottom real tight.

What's under my seat right now?

1 x Brass bell
1 x Clutch lever
1 x Brake lever
1 x toolkit
2 x rain ponchos
1 x first aid kit

What am I doing up to go in there next?

1 x CB Radio (Tearing apart a handheld and reshaping to use alotted space.)
1 x LED Flashlight (MUST HAVE)
1 x GPS black box (This is more of a dream than anything, but my car is getting a computer in a few weeks/months)

yeah its the best mod i have done, changed the whole feel of the bike, i used get a sort of bouncing feeling when i went round long fast corners, (that feeling in a car just before it goes in to a fishtale) well worth doing

Why did you even try to?

I missed the capacity that my TLR had. Even with an undertail, I could still put 4 quarts of oil in the tail with the hump.
