So I purchased my first motorbike a week ago. I drove 4 hours to test it out, and paid for it quickly afterwards. I only had to ride it home.
After about 5 hours in hte saddle (going slow and cautiouse) I was sick of interstate travel, and was second guessing my decission to purchase a motorcycle.
THEN I EXITED.
Man, the gs500 is a freaking BLAST in town, and even more fun on the backroads!
Since I've purchased it, I've changed the oil proper, about ot buy an air filter, and put new tires on it. For a measely $2000 total, I have a really economical and FUN commuter bike, with fresh treads and brakes. Did I mention it only had 3000 miles on the clock and is a 97 model ?
I'd run quite a few tanks of gas through it, when the battery couldn't keep up anymore, and I replaced it since 3 of the cells were bone dry, and well, $50 is a cheap insurance against electrical problems.
Since I've found the idle adjustment knob, I'm all grins. The manual really helps alot, and is quite thorough. The only improvement I think I'll be contemplating is putting the stock exhaust back on it (it has a Vance and Hines).
Last night I lost a bulb for the tach, so I'll be investigating that sometime soon.
After more than 1500 miles in less than a week, you could say I'm quite happy with the experience. It's a great bike, and I've had alot of compliments from folks, then I proudly say "It's a 97 model too!" they almost flip.
Great forum here, great bikes, hope I can keep it around a while.
:)

sorry... but if its yoru first bike and you drove it 1500 miles... you're rediculous... glad you made it home safe though
