Title: Krauser Skyline Sidecases
Post by: gouacats on June 07, 2006, 12:48:11 PM
Since I my only vehicle is the GS, I've been looking for lockable sidecases for quite a while.  I finally bit the bullet and plunked down the $600 for the Krauser rack and Skyline sidecases (http://www.twistedthrottle.com/trade/productlist/13).  I placed the order in March and was told the rack would ship from Germany in late April.  Unfortunately, the order was delayed a month and I received the rack and bags on Monday, 6/5/06.  Installation was a snap and I installed them in about 2 hours that afternoon.  Everything went together as it was supposed to and the most difficult thing was figuring out what I had to remove to get to the installation points.

So far I haven't noticed any change in handling, but I haven't had any stiff cross winds or weighted the cases down yet.  I don't foresee any problems.  Here are a couple of pics.  We had a microburst complete with impressive dust storm yesterday, so the bike is a bit dirty!

Another interesting option for the luggage-deprived!  Thanks for sharing.

Would you mind posting a pic or two of the racks with the bags removed?

Here is a pic off of Twisted Throttle's website.  It's pretty accurate.  I'll try to remember to take a couple of my bike and post again tomorrow.

One thing to note is that there are 2 keys, one for the lock and another to remove the cases.  Since I hate carrying keys, I left the one that removes the case at home.  This is a bit annoying in my mind and I would prefer a single key for everything.

I don't know what the problem with the photos is, but it appears to be working now.

Here are a couple of photos without the bags attached:

Okay...I think I have the pictures working thanks to Kerry's help and hosting!

One thing that I found out this afternoon is that the seat lock key is still accessible with the bags on, although it's not super easy to access.  You also still have access to the helmet lock under the seat.

Kerry...Thanks again!

Thanks for the pics! Those are pretty cool looking (though they'd make lane-sharing a bit more challenging for me.... )

They look as though they'd be big enough to hold a briefcase!  :thumb:

It would have to be a small briefcase...the dimensions are about 17"L x 7"W x 12".  To get an idea you can fit a couple of gallons of milk in each one and have some room left over.  Krauser makes much larger cases, but I liked the smaller look better and really didn't need huge capacity.

As for overall width, the width at the rear is now 33" (the width at the mirrors is 34").

I was just wondering the width difference...  I think they look wide 'cause the rear is so small (like mine).

I've been thinking more along the lines side bags (for longer trips and whatnot)... Since I already have a top case.

Looks pretty good.  Those are some pretty nice bags....I guess they better be for $600 though huh  :icon_mrgreen:
