Just curious, how long should a new chain & sprocket last? 95 % highway riding average speed of 80ish. 600 miles a week and lubeing the chain every week to week in a half. Its a stock set up.
If you keep the chain clean, too, 15k+.
Thanks Scratch, i'm at around 14,400 miles and its gone. I just put it on at the end of December, but with the miles i ride i guess thats about right.
Thanks again..
Sure!
My last chain was sorely neglected, wasn't cleaned very often, and I used Liquid Wrench to clean and sometimes lube it (most of the time I lubed it with the Maxim chain wax), which is really bad for the chain BTW; it barely lasted 14,500 miles.
At least I have learned to not use Liquid Wrench to clean or lube my chain. I will be using Triflow and kerosene from now on to clean, and am currently experimenting (so far, favorably) with Duomonde o-ring conditioner and chain lube.
I've been using PJ1 Black Label. Do you know of anything better?
Nope. As long as you're using something. There aren't a whole lot of bad lubes out there. Bad lubes don't sell very well.
im on 30k miles and still on orignal chain, it snapped once at the link but still sweet
You can check a chain for wear by trying to lift it away from the rear sprocket at about 3 o'clock. If it pulls away easily, you have a worn chain. Otherwise, use the distance between 20 pins as described in the manual.
