Title: Could this idea possibly work>?
Post by: TadMC on June 09, 2006, 11:44:40 AM
An SV100S tail on a GS, I saw the guy who had the racing gsxr taiil on a gs and it loooked sweet but i was wondering about a sv tail?

ALso are SVs 2 cylinders?

SV's are two cylinders.  V-Twin instead of parellel.  Don't know if the tail will work though.

a big fat yep, it could work, you'll have to get the sv sub frame and cut the subframe off your bike, take a look at my gsxr srad post itr shows what i had to do. the sv is similar. the bottom surport is longer than the srad, so you might have to cut that and make it a bit shorter. but i think this is a do-able mod. damn i wish that i had thought of that before i did the srad, grrr

would this require welding to put this on. Not that im lazy but I was looking for a bolt on kinda thing

I doubt you will be able to bolt it on.  especially on an older GS.

Hey HMMMMZ i just checked out your thread...

Damn that seems pretty easy, but why is the SRAD bolted while the GS is welded.

Im seriously considering doing this mod

i think the gsxr was consided a race bike so they could easily swap to a new tail with out any major mods, i had a look at the new sv and i dont think that waiil fit but the old type(which is cheaper any way) is a deffinite mabee. if i hadn't done the srad id buy the sv just to see if i could do it. ask a guy on ebay to do some measuring for you. bear in mind its ali so will flex a little as well

why would it make any difference weither its an old one or a new one, they only changed the very back of the bike for new mounting points.
pah.
bolting it on is the only way you will do this mod as the gs is steel and the sv is ali, and you cant weld those togeather.
unless the laws of chemisty have changed in the last few hours :icon_lol:

You mean bolting the entire tail section?

I meant just the plastics.

If he's gonna cut the tail off, he could weld steel mounts to bolt the alumi frame to.

as Srinath would say...Cool

oh ok then, my mistake :icon_lol:
yeah you wouldnt have a shaZam! show in mounting the plastics, the whole subframe would be the only way to go. i was saying that the subframe would probly match up and would only require drilling, and would probly get away with not doing any welding at all. similar to what i did with the srad tail
