I'm have a blast fixing up my old bike.  The biggest improvement was the rejet and Yoshi pipe.  I have way more power throughout the rpm range and the bike sounds awesome!!

Again thanks to everyone who posts here.  I went through alot of old posts and learned a ton of stuff.

Chris

SO FAR:

1  Cleaned out the Carbs and rejetted them with 40 pilots, one washer, and 125 main jets.

2. Installed new front rotor, newer caliper and pads.

3. Adjusted my valves and checked timing chain.

4.  Trouble shooted why it wouldn't start and replaced the start switch.

5. Put super bike handlebars on and dual density grips ( my bars were bent and had the old foam grips - yuck!)

6. Installed new throttle cable.

7. Installed new tachometer and housing.

8. Replaced a bent brake lever.

9. Installed a braided SS front brake line.

10.  Oil/filter change and  clean lubed adjusted my chain.

11.  Replaced the tank Suzuki sticker that basically shriveled up on me.

12. Install Yoshimura exhaust.

Chris2P,

I have the same exhaust and carb jetting on my '91;  where are your mixture screws set (mine at 3.0 T.O.)?  Are you running an aftermarket air filter (UNI on mine), and do you have a slight off idle stumble?

SWEET !

I've been looking at Yoshi's on e-bay, both bolt-on and slip-on.  Did you get a slip-on; the pipe looks a bit built up around the can ??

Please give a few details.

Yes it's a slip on.  I have a slight stumble too at idle.  Always had it since it was new.  Maybe if I balance the carbs?

Those miirors look kewl but are pretty crappy.  Can't see a thing out of them.  They are just to hold me over until my sv mirrors come in.

Lumpoffire,

Yes I'm running the Uni filter in the stock box.  My mixture screws are 2 1/2 turns out.  When I drilled out the brass plugs, both mixture screws were set close to the CLOSED position!!!!  Talk about being lean.

Chris,

Yikes, that's amazing, though I know these bikes (at least the early nineties ones) were set pretty lean.  When I first rode mine home from the dealer (purchased used) it was barely rideable;  then I read somewhere that some of these GSs took 20 minutes to warm up.

Your 90 is a good looking bike.  I should have recognized the pipe was different than the Yosh full system which doesn't have a strap.  Enjoy!

How do you like the dual density grips?  Are they still comfortable for long rides?  I can't remember what type I put on mine, but they suck....

Dorianfes,  I like those grips.  They supposedly adsorb handlebar vibration but I really don't have much to compare them too except for foamies and the crappy rubber ones that came with the bike.  I'm happy with them they have a nice firm feel.

Nick, the muffler and midpipe is one piece I guess Yoshi made a slip on specifically for the gs at some point.  I bought it used from someone here on GStwin.  So I really don't know much about the pipe.  It does have a louder low tone sound at idle, is almost as quiet as the stock at 4-5k rpm and then opens up in a roar 7-10k.

If you're looking to make a mid pipe, harbor freight sells a pipe bender for about 75.00 plus shipping.  I was thinking about buying one of those before getting this yoshi.  I think those carbon fiber cans are the BOMB!! :) :)
