Title: Necessary to remove tank to replace battery?
Post by: ggeiger28 on June 10, 2006, 04:54:44 AM
My battery just died and I'm looking to replace it (it's 4 years old). I have a 2002 GS. The Clymer book tells me to remove the gas tank to take out the battery. This is somewhat intimidating. Is that necessary? It would appear that the battery will come out without having to do that. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks. It didn't make sense to me based on the layout. You just saved me alot of aggravation.

I wish they'd make it so you don't have to remove the tank to replace the airfilter. :icon_confused:

You do have to undo the tank mounting bolts, but you don't necessarily need to remove the tank.  I have been able to remove/insert the air filter (on my pre-'01 model) by lifting the rear of the tank with one hand and working with the other.  It may also work to prop the rear of the tank up on a 2x2 or 2x4 laid across the frame.

Either way, it's better than pulling all those hoses....
