Title: I have a question about crankcase cover !!
Post by: edwinviteri on June 10, 2006, 12:14:18 PM
The question I have is if you replace the crankcase cover for the left side of the motorcycle to they have to drain the oil or not.
The part number is 14 on this diagram.  Thanking everyone in advance for replying.

yes, or it will drain all over the floor when you unbolt it.

Yes it's full of oil. It's not hard to replace but you should also keep in mind the stator is attached to the inside of that case. The wire is routed short so you have to be careful when pulling the case loose. After the case is pulled free(remember that a magnet is trying to hold it back) just unscrew the stator from the cover and attach it along with a new gasket to the new cover. Put it back in place being sure the wire is routed correctly.

That is what I thought.  Because I just got my motorcycle from the shop and they gave me the bike dry on oil.  Also they told me that by replacing the crankcase cover on the left side they didn't have to drain the oil.  M O T H E R f^%k E R S   .  Drove my back for about 20 mins with no oil in the engine what the f^%k,   can you believe this.  Do You think I can sue them or not for this.

I'm sure the bike could probably be leaned over enough to replace the cover without dropping the oil. But it's more likely the shop dropped the oil  and forgot to replace it. The shop is definitely liable for any damages caused by their negligence.
